The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1840: Tense Limbo
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Time has elapsed considerably since Mrs. Greene's passing, and the Silverstar Pack has left behind Human territory.
Getting used to this fresh circumstance proves far from simple.
Distance from fellow humans, encircled by Supernaturals, brings a strange sensation. Yet over time, with persistent work, the pack carved out an existence from emptiness. They established the Clarentium Empire—vanquished a formidable foe, and pursued calm growth via partnerships.
It proved a perilous journey, yet the results were astounding.
Witnessing all these events unfold right in front of her was truly a gift.
Adhara has never experienced such security and well-being as she does at this moment.
Whenever trouble emerges, a dependable man stands ready for her. A figure she trusts completely. She'd sacrifice everything for him. Even lay down her life if that's his desire, without a second thought.
Not out of foolishness or love's delusion.
Rather, because he'd mirror that devotion and go even further for her sake.
Evelyn handles his dependence for governance and oversight; that's why she's the empress. Gistella provides him solace; hence his deeper closeness with her.
She, however, supports him when his spirit fractures and he strays from his path.
Among them all, she joined him first.
That's why, in moments of doubt and despair, he seeks her out.
And maybe due to her bond with him, she perceives what escapes the others' notice.
Or views it with sharper clarity.
Since that shattering incident, Rex hasn't shown a true smile. He grins and jests during lighter times, but it lacks authenticity. His smiles miss that vibrant gleam of a sincere one. His laughs echo emptily. Sometimes, his thoughts drift into nothingness.
The shadows are closing in.
She's observed this repeatedly, especially clear during the coronation.
Luckily, companions distract his thoughts, and adversaries demand his focus.
Yet it fails to address the core issue.
Eventually, the rest sensed the empty void within Rex too.
That might explain the vital push to seize the Scarlet Banes Kingdom.
At minimum, it signals to Rex that a path forward remains, even without further violence.
No more dwelling on grim history. Turn toward tomorrow. Embrace possibilities.
Evelyn and Gistella may chase their personal motives. Matters to affirm. But Adhara yearns solely to witness his real smile. The one he flashes during Mrs. Greene's visits. It signifies the world to her.
'Just once... Allow me to bring him that smile. Let me bring him joy. That's my sole plea.'
With that, she stirred awake.
Adhara's lids trembled before lifting like rising drapes.
Her sight remained hazy.
Still, the haze failed to conceal the Blood Moon's harsh glow.
A few blinks later, she fully regained awareness, and the Blood Moon's view propelled her upright to survey her surroundings. She felt along her form with her fingers, checking for deadly injuries—none appeared.
Memories flooded back of the shimmering dust drifting down like flakes of snow.
Followed by an overpowering urge to slumber she couldn't fight.
Since transforming into a werewolf, evading sleep has been uncommon for her. It strikes mainly when injured.
Thus, this wave of lethargy startled her, and she sensed instinctively it spelled danger.
'What occurred?'
As in her final recollection, she remained amid the chaos, clashing with Laykard when the burst happened, and then the dust fell. The scene matched unchanged. Laykard rested nearby.
Not perished. Asleep. Just as she had been moments prior.
Adhara rose unsteadily. Returned to human shape, she called forth her claws and approached the dormant Laykard. Eliminating the leftover insurgents from the Scarlet Banes Kingdom wasn't preferable.
At least, that's what Evelyn declared.
Yet Adhara refused to squander this prime chance.
She lacked full knowledge of events, but chose to strike foes first.
'Eurghh...' Adhara groaned in agony.
Only then did she notice her back was soaked in blood. A savage gash still oozing.
From it emanated a potent surge of moonlight energy.
A superior variant of moonlight energy she knew—Sven.
'Where's he at?' She halted suddenly and scanned the sprawl of slumbering forms.
Soon, a quarter kilometer off, a pale silhouette snagged her gaze like a pale post. Sven knelt, his frame quaking fiercely with moonlight energy that vaporized ceaselessly from him, transforming surrounding air into fog.
From the instant Adhara rose, his stare fixed on her.
But no assault came.
Sven merely observed from afar, tracking each motion like a stalking beast.
'Will he permit me to finish these?' Adhara pondered. Uncertainty lingered, but she burned to eradicate the Scarlet Banes Kingdom fully. Only Princess Selene remained, and victory would follow. 'Regeneration's ongoing. Striking the others now might draw Sven's charge.
'Delaying means they'll rouse shortly.' Adhara clenched her jaw.
Already, certain werewolves from Princess Selene’s ranks shifted on the ground.
Another minute, and the full force would revive.
Adhara wavered on her next move.
Still, inaction seemed graver than choosing. Rex had demonstrated that in such crises, hesitation spells doom. 'I'll proceed,' Her gaze hardened. 'For him, I'll embrace the danger!'
Positioned above Laykard, Adhara lifted her claws and infused them with the Violet Fire of Jealousy.
'Adhara, stop!'
As her claws plunged, a voice yelled her name.
She froze briefly and glanced upward, spotting Evelyn gesturing from the castle. A faint grin graced her features, one unfit for war's fury. Even Gistella appeared to have shed her battle gear.
'But why...?' Adhara murmured.
Reflecting, the reason stood clear. Adhara permitted hope for the optimal outcome.
Right then, Princess Selene appeared quietly next to Evelyn.
Former adversaries—now aligned, refraining from violence.
'It’s okay!' Evelyn called out once more. 'The war is over!'
'Eh...?' Adhara gaped at Evelyn, the declaration crashing over her like a surge. Her form quivered as if charged with lightning—then gradually, unbelievably, eased. Disbelief gripped her.
Tears gathered in her eyes, streaming down her face unnoticed at first.
'It’s over...' Her voice broke. 'Does that signify... we triumphed?'
Rex laid the groundwork with his conquest over the Yule Moon aiding the royal werewolves. But dismantling and integrating the kingdom—that fell to them, a feat to share proudly with Rex.
A weight lifted from his load.
Adhara sank to the earth.
The aroma of blood and carnage hung heavy still.
Yet that enhanced the moment, ending the call for added slaughter.
Now, the Scarlet Banes Kingdom could restore itself, bolstering the Clarentium Empire with a robust partner.
'You can return now, Rex.' The phrase emerged fractured, choked by unstoppable sobs. She battled the tears, but triumph's rush proved too mighty. Each drop freed the struggles they'd endured—falling to her palms, the soil, the evidence of true success. 'Come home. Please. We’ve prepared something for you.'
Princess Selene, scores of Alpha Primes, and myriad Ancient Werewolves.
Adhara and her allies faced it all with minimal losses.
She especially knew her growth, having held off and endured assaults from both Sven and Laykard. Gradually, others awoke, and Princess Selene stepped in to calm tensions.
After all, some leaped straight to combat upon stirring.
With matters resolved, Evelyn positioned herself apart, gazing at the Blood Moon.
Though conflict ceased, an undercurrent stirred.
'How much time since nightfall should have concluded?' She inquired.
'Roughly forty minutes,' Sintra replied, equally baffled by the persistent Blood Moon past dawn's due. 'No scouts have come back—so we’re unsure if night trapped only us.'
The update furrowed Evelyn’s brow deeper.
Princess Selene lost contact with Miriam, triggering the trap that induced slumber for all.
She mentioned the Blood Moon entering her dreams prior. It urged delay until its arrival, the trap's very purpose. Thus, this undoubtedly originated from the Blood Moon.
'What of Miriam? Any word?' Evelyn questioned, gaze fixed ahead.
'Yes,' Sintra affirmed and nodded toward where Princess Selene and Miriam conversed deeply, likely dissecting events. 'She aimed to disable the trap, but a vision gripped her, compelling activation instead.'
'Could it stem from her inadequacy?'
'No. Sintra surpasses me as a Shaman.'
That sealed it; the Blood Moon orchestrated this.
'How to escape? Is escape feasible?' Evelyn balled her hands. 'If only Rex were present.'
Challenging an entity from a superior realm exceeds her grasp.
Indeed, this marked her initial encounter, leaving her directionless.
'Don’t overthink it,' Sintra reassured, spotting Evelyn’s clear worry. Youth brought novelty. 'Your Alpha clashed with the Lunirich Gods, drawing their attention. But Gods face limits against us.
'We’re not their sole foes, so they tread carefully.' She continued.
For its value, Evelyn drew solace from her words.
'The Lunirich Gods struck Rex lately. I doubt they’ll overreach,' Evelyn agreed, then faced Sintra. 'Divide forces into compact units and dispatch them variously. Facing the Blood Moon demands tempering our fury.
'Tell Princess Selene likewise. Or if she suggests superior plans, I welcome them.' She appended.
Sintra inclined her head and departed.
Then, Evelyn noticed Gistella nearby. She stood solitary, peering about, appearing vexed by an issue. Evelyn approached and settled beside her, 'Gistella? What troubles you?'
'Evelyn...' Gistella greeted with a nod, yet scanned persistently. 'I truly can’t say.'
'Share your thoughts, Gistella,'
Evelyn urged.
They lingered in suspension, anticipating potential peril.
If Gistella sensed aught, she required the knowledge.
'Simply, death’s aura surrounds us,' Gistella responded. 'It’s peculiar.'
'Not due to the slain here?' Evelyn arched an eyebrow.
Gistella, formerly Undead, retained death energy detection. With abundant bloodshed nearby, sensing it seemed natural. Yet unease persisted, 'No, not from the deceased. From us...'
