The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1839: From Deeper Water

Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Morgana endured excruciating pain as her Angel bloodline was diluted and erased, straining to beg Rex for mercy and offering her empire as a vassal state. Initially tempted by the political alliance, Rex rejected her pleas and savagely beat her, intent on killing her to destroy the indestructible portal remnant she had created. As he strangled her, chaotic energy erupted through her veins, briefly sparking Rex's hope that it was his tormented friend Edward reaching out, but the System's frantic warnings revealed a incomprehensible, overpowering entity now possessing her body.

Rex stumbled back in shock as crushing her heart failed to end her life.

Her ethereal voice sent chills through him.

Hardened by endless deadly fights, Rex swiftly called forth his three Soul Artifacts and triggered their Spirit Genesis. A shining golden shield appeared between them. A tough golden exoskeleton covered his form like extra armor. Then, he employed Inevitable Death to seize Morgana’s brain.

Furthermore, he activated the Law of Inevitability, Misdirection, and Foresight.

The Law of Inevitability ensured that her strikes aimed at him would all fail. His second Law, Misdirection, guaranteed that her energy attempts would collapse. Finally, the Law of Foresight allowed him to anticipate every possible assault she might unleash.

No surprises awaited him.

Rex created as much separation as possible between himself and her to escape.

He relied on the System’s judgment to view this as a grave danger.

In that critical instant, time dragged to an agonizing crawl.

Rex heard his heart thundering in his ears, along with his ragged, faltering breaths pressing against his chest. His gaze remained fixed on Morgana, concentrating entirely to keep her within sight.

His form also morphed and contorted into its beastly state.

To maximize his survival odds, he needed his werewolf shape.

And that’s when Morgana at last stirred.

She didn’t burst forward explosively as he anticipated.

She didn’t even gather her strength to shatter the barriers of energy dividing them.

Instead, she drifted ahead like a spectral figure.

Rex’s breath caught as he observed Morgana gliding through the Aegis of Moon Sentinel. Despite his adjustments to the Law of Misdirection and Inevitability to prevent her approach, she passed right through without hindrance.

As though she existed beyond the bounds of reality.

His Law of Foresight detected no advance warnings as she drew near.

Even that Law proved utterly ineffective.

Rex attempted to smash the blood-brain construct held by Inevitable Death, yet it resisted. An unseen force transformed it into an unbreakable stone, defying his brute force.

Despite channeling all his might to pulverize it, the blood-brain held firm.

A barrage of notifications swamped his sight.

But time had already slipped away.

Morgana closed in on him, extending her hand toward his form.

Her fingers pierced into his chest, forcing Rex to gasp sharply as they encircled his pulsing heart. The icy grip caused his body to lock up against his will, leaving him vulnerable and immobile.

This helplessness differed from what he knew.

Right then, he couldn’t unleash his full power. His own body refused to obey.

"Misery..." She murmured in a ghostly tone. "Be thou undone."

Rex jerked as her hand clenched around his heart.

Each throb grew more agonizing than the previous. Blood trickled from his mouth—and darkness encroached. Death felt familiar, but this surpassed it entirely. It seemed his very soul faced obliteration.

<Warning: a higher form of chaos energy is infiltrating the user’s body!>

<All enhancements have been nullified!>

<Reverting the user’s form back to normal>

<Be advised, the user’s physical body and soul will completely disappear in one minute!>

<It’s recommended to use the Invincible II item>

Even amid the haze, he deciphered the alert clearly and chose to follow it promptly.

Curse the other Scions.

If they detected his abrupt power surge, complications could arise, yet nothing rivaled the peril of death looming now without the Invincible II item. But halfway through his reflection, Rex spotted motion from the corner of his eye.

A silhouette emerged just a few paces to his right.

She sprang into action without delay, encircling Morgana’s outstretched arm with her own.

Waves of energy surged into the limb, freezing it solid.

In the next instant, Rex blinked and saw Morgana’s figure solidify, becoming tangible. As if her prior state was merely a ghostly projection of her true self. Now, she was anchored to the physical plane.

"Crush it now!" Nivellen shouted with urgency. "Do it now!"

Rex cleared his mind and squeezed harder. The blood-brain lost its former rigidity, turning soft and pliable like actual tissue. Just as it ought to be. He shattered it, and instantly, it exploded into chunks of brain and gore.

Behind Morgana’s eyes, the chaotic frenzy that gripped them finally faded away.

Only then did the violet glow vanish entirely.

Refusing to risk another mishap after that ordeal, Rex drove his claws into her chest and savagely split her apart. Her remains spilled open, staining the frigid stone floor with gore that could turn stomachs.

Yet Rex had no moment to dwell on it.

He collapsed onto his knees, gasping for air, beads of icy sweat rolling down his temple.

"I know you’re reckless, but that went way beyond foolish," Nivellen remarked, gazing down at him.

She understood Rex’s fiery nature.

She recognized that rage often fueled his decisions.

But he seldom chose idiotic paths, preferring to craft ideal situations where his fury could blaze brightest. This instance, though, marked a truly reckless blunder. "What were you thinking? What did you hope to gain by holding back like that? That entity surely hailed from the Chaos Realm’s depths. Encountering it brings nothing but doom."

Rex offered no reply.

He concentrated on steadying his breathing and scanning for injuries sustained in the clash.

"Chaos corrupted me. That should show you just how perilous that realm truly is," Nivellen’s gaze sharpened. Frustration and ire laced her words. "Never falter against Chaos. Never spare mercy. You endured so much to rescue me. Do you want a repeat?"

"Aren’t you supposed to be staying hidden?" Rex questioned, eyes averted. "Don’t pop up suddenly. I had it under control."

Nivellen regarded him in astonishment.

She had intervened aware that disaster might unfold.

If Chaos claimed him, even his soul wouldn’t endure, meaning true finality.

And this was his reaction to her aid.

"You’re not thinking clearly." Nivellen began to fade—departing the realm unnoticed. "But heed this well. Employ your divinity—purge yourself thoroughly, body and spirit. And when you’ve regained composure..." Her form dissolved completely, though her voice echoed on. "I hope you’ll choose wisely."

Rex shifted back until he leaned against the wall.

With Morgana slain, the portal began to dissipate, closing that chapter.

His blood-smeared hand clutched his face, knuckles pale as he clenched his jaw amid the inner storm.

"What the hell am I doing?" Rex muttered to himself.

For starters, Nivellen had spared him from deploying the Invincible II item and drawing the Scions’ scrutiny. He owed her at least a hint of thanks, yet he brushed off her worry dismissively.

But presently, his thoughts bore a crushing load.

Nivellen now freed from chaos taint, his focus naturally shifted from her to the one still requiring aid. Edward. In contrast to Nivellen, he possessed zero knowledge of Edward’s plight.

How fares he in the Chaos Realm? Might he seek an exit? Can he hold out longer?

Does he live at all?

Rex held no answers, and that void of uncertainty twisted his mind into latching onto illusions.

When Chaos emerged, his immediate assumption was Edward reaching out.

Edward remained marooned—adrift in a hostile domain devoid of hope, probably suffering agony now. The notion of him connecting to the Spirit Realm stretched credibility thin.

Rather, another force causing this event seemed far more likely.

And Rex ought to have recognized not to grasp at delusions.

"Damn it, man," Rex pressed his face firmer. His talons unwittingly raked his flesh, carving fresh marks across his features. "At least let me know—you’re damn well okay. That you can tough it out more. Back in the Noob Box, you were the biggest whiner, squealing like a kid."

...

Several days had elapsed since.

A startling revelation greeted Rex upon his return to the hideout: word from Varya.

She reported losing contact with numerous distant Shade Crawlers, those not yet evolved into Silverstars. The losses occurred precisely when Rex confronted Morgana, pointing to a single cause.

The System confirmed its likelihood too.

When the possessing entity delved into his body and soul via her might, she uncovered more than just him. She pinpointed all his close allies and linked their essences into a collective with his own.

That likely explained the brief hesitation while squeezing his heart.

Rex had pegged the entity as cruelly playful, but it proved coldly methodical.

Her ability to detect and eliminate multitudes simultaneously rendered her horrifyingly potent.

Luckily, the Shade Crawlers transformed into Silverstars remained close to Varya.

And that proximity bolstered their bodies and souls.

Those factors granted them extra moments until Nivellen intervened.

Regrettably, some Shade Crawlers perished too swiftly, their forms and spirits fracturing. He had planned to integrate the survivors as pack, but that option no longer held.

Besides, Amanir and Devo lingered confined with Dorn.

Certain individuals, such as Davina and Liliana, urged his attendance during it. From their perspective, it was essential. After all, no one could predict if Dorn might tamper with Devo and Amanir for future sabotage.

But that posed no issue for Rex.

In truth, he challenged Dorn to attempt it, confident the System would detect any anomalies.

And that would sever his ties to this realm permanently.

Beyond that, Rex lacked the leisure anyway.

He devoted days within the Black Rift, pursuing packs of voidal beasts across the terrain. Every group flagged by the Shade Crawlers fell to his hunt and massacre. Gold accumulated swiftly in the System.

Nine-hundred and seventy million gold appeared an immense sum.

Yet with the Shade Crawlers’ aid and his boundless endurance, it amounted to mere days of effort. Rex now perched upon a vast pile of cadavers—countless shredded and twisted corpses, heaped immensely.

The odor was revolting, but to his werewolf senses, it was intoxicating.

Venturing forth for mass slaughter proved utterly invigorating.

He quelled his irritation, achieving a much steadier calm than prior.

"Your Majesty." Linthia floated before him, undisturbed by the reek. "Davina and Liliana prepare to leave. They head to gather the dispersed imperial troops. Anything you’d like to convey before they go? Or a note for another?"

"You mean Althea?" Rex laughed lightly at the idea. "She’s a spoiled one. Let her stew in her fury."

He snapped his fingers, summoning Alana.

"You summoned me?" She inquired.

"Instruct Kei Xun to support Davina and Liliana. Ensure the empire submits to their command," Rex directed. He aimed for the Haeltara Empire as a subordinate to the Clarentium Empire, requiring those two as key leaders. "Coerce the Crown Prince to align with them."

"As you command," Alana inclined her head deferentially and vanished once more.

Rex rose and gazed toward the distant skyline, "Now, it’s time we head back home."
