Breaking the door lock was a simple feat for Wang Yue. By releasing a faint burst of his vital energy, the mechanism shattered instantly, allowing the door to swing wide.
"Mo Mo, how are you? We’ve come to rescue you!" Su Xiu Er called out to the figure inside the moment the entrance was cleared.
Chu Mo appeared before the trio almost immediately. Her gaze settled on Wang Yue, a smile gracing her lips as she whispered, "You finally arrived."
"Eh? Mo Mo, why do you look so perfectly fine?" Su Xiu Er asked, her voice filled with bewilderment. She had imagined that Chu Mo, after being confined for three days, would be haggard and on the verge of a breakdown.
Instead, aside from a slightly pale face, Chu Mo appeared exactly as she always did.
Chu Mo chuckled softly. "It is because I was certain Wang Yue would save me. Even if he couldn't force his way into the Chu family estate, I knew he would definitely appear at the Zhang family residence on my wedding day to take me away."
A glimmer of excitement even flashed in her eyes as she spoke.
It was clear she had been influenced too much by those cliché idol dramas. She genuinely believed it was the height of romance for a hero to crash a wedding and snatch the heroine away from another man.
Wang Yue couldn't suppress a grin. "It seems we’ve shown up a bit ahead of schedule, then."
Chu Mo shook her head. "No, at least this way I can leave sooner and escape this daily confinement."
Su Jiao Jiao chimed in with a question, "Sister Chu Mo, what would you have done if my cousin never showed up by the time of the wedding?"
"I would have waited until the final second. If he hadn't appeared by then, it would only mean I had misjudged his character. In that case, I would have simply handed the Zhang family a cold corpse," Chu Mo replied with chilling composure.
Su Xiu Er gasped in horror. "Mo Mo, don't talk like that! Don't do anything reckless!"
Wang Yue, however, merely laughed. "Don't worry, Sis. She isn't that foolish; she definitely had a backup plan ready."
"Xiu Er, we've been like sisters for years, yet you still don't grasp my nature as well as Wang Yue does," Chu Mo laughed along with him. Then, her expression turned grave as she added, "But truly, if you ever betray me, I can't promise I won't do something desperate."
Taking Chu Mo’s hand in his, Wang Yue spoke with absolute sincerity. "Have no fear. While I might not be able to give you my exclusive devotion, I will never, ever betray you in this lifetime."
"Mm," Chu Mo nodded, her cheeks flushing with a shy, joyous glow.
"Wow! This is so romantic! Give her a kiss!" Su Jiao Jiao shouted, her eyes sparkling with glee. Before she could say more, Su Xiu Er dragged her toward the stairs, leaving Wang Yue and Chu Mo alone on the second floor.
Even though Wang Yue and Chu Mo had been on several dates and both felt a deep mutual attraction, they had never progressed beyond holding hands.
Today, however, Chu Mo found a sudden burst of courage. Right there at her bedroom door, she initiated a kiss with Wang Yue.
Wang Yue had been longing to taste those seductive lips for a long time. However, to maintain his persona as an innocent young man in front of her and her cousins, he had never dared to make the first move.
Since Chu Mo was offering, he didn't hold back. They leaned into each other, their lips meeting.
He had to suppress all his advanced kissing techniques, fearing that showing too much skill would shatter his "innocent" image.
Chu Mo was entirely inexperienced herself. Consequently, they spent nearly a minute simply pressing and sucking on each other's lips, their tongues never even making contact.
Yet, for Chu Mo, this was more than enough. Her breathing soon grew heavy, her heart hammered against her ribs, and her body felt flushed and weak, as if her legs might give out at any moment.
Just then, Su Xiu Er’s voice rang out loudly from downstairs, clearly intentional: "Uncle Chu."
Both realized it was a signal that Chu Kuo had returned. Reluctantly, they broke apart and headed downstairs together.
In the lounge, Chu Kuo was conversing with the Su sisters. He looked up in shock as Chu Mo descended alongside Wang Yue. "How did you get out?"
"I just broke the lock. It wasn't difficult," Chu Mo answered casually, as if it were of no consequence.
Chu Kuo’s brow furrowed. Aside from himself, who in this villa possessed the strength to force open those locks? Could there be hidden experts from the three major families lurking about?
If so, the situation was becoming far more complicated than he had anticipated.
While he had been leaning toward supporting the Zhang family, he suspected the three major families of Jinling might not survive this upheaval. He didn't want to pick the losing side and offend anyone prematurely.
He had initially assumed the drama between Chu Mo and Wang Yue was just a youthful fling. But if the three major families were deploying experts beyond the "Di Que Jing" level to back Wang Yue, the stakes had shifted.
It suggested the three families were using the bond between Wang Yue and his daughter to force the Chu family to pick a side.
Chu Kuo wasn't an ambitious man; he merely wanted to maintain his family's standing in Jinling through neutrality.
But his attempt to secure a marriage alliance with the Zhang family had backfired, leaving him in a precarious position.
Nevertheless, Chu Kuo wasn't a coward. Since he was being forced to make a move, he decided to be direct. "Wang Yue, can we have a private word in my study?"
"Of course, Uncle Chu," Wang Yue replied, tossing a reassuring glance at Chu Mo.
They moved to the study, a quiet room used more for show than work, making it the perfect spot for a serious talk.
"Have a seat," Chu Kuo said, gesturing to a chair. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and offered one, but when Wang Yue declined, Chu Kuo lit one for himself. After a long drag, he asked, "Are you aware that Mo Mo is already betrothed to the Zhang family?"
"I am aware," Wang Yue confirmed with a nod.
"And if my information is correct, you are also engaged to Chen Xi of the Chen family, isn't that so?" Chu Kuo asked pointedly.
"That is correct," Wang Yue nodded once more.
Chu Kuo had hoped that highlighting their respective engagements would shame Wang Yue and give him the upper hand. To his frustration, Wang Yue remained completely unperturbed.
"If both of you are already promised to others, why persist with this 'unofficial' affair?" Chu Kuo asked, forced to bring his own daughter's reputation into the fray. "Isn't this a betrayal of your responsibilities to your families?"
"You have a point, Uncle Chu. But you were young once, too," Wang Yue replied, a hint of feigned guilt appearing on his face. "You must know that when true feelings are involved, they aren't so easily suppressed."
