Chen Peng’s delicate face flushed crimson the moment Wang Yue’s palm brushed against her forehead. Startled, she leaped backward and cried out, "What do you think you're doing? Are you trying to take liberties with me?"
"I was merely attempting to heal your bruise," Wang Yue explained, sounding exasperated. "You’re just a little girl; what possible advantage could I be seeking?"
"You... I’m going to tell my sister Yao Yao to thrash you!" Realizing her own sibling might not be terrifying enough, Chen Peng invoked the name of her notoriously aggressive cousin.
"That is quite enough, both of you!" Chen Xi intervened to quell the bickering before turning to Wang Yue. "Wang Yue, do you have any specific arrangements for this afternoon?"
"My only plan for today is to remain by your side," Wang Yue answered, offering a charming smile.
A sweet expression crossed Chen Xi’s face. "In that case, let’s head out for some entertainment. It gets rather tedious staying cooped up indoors all day."
"Yes, let's! Count me in!" Chen Peng exclaimed, clapping her hands with delight.
"A total third wheel," Wang Yue muttered with a look of disdain toward Chen Peng. He had intended to spend the day winning over Chen Xi’s heart, but those prospects were now looking grim.
"I am accompanying my sister, not you. If you’re so bothered, then feel free to stay behind," Chen Peng shot back with a defiant glare.
Accustomed to the constant friction between Wang Yue and her sister, Chen Xi didn't bother playing peacemaker. She simply stood up and led the way out.
Wang Yue and Chen Peng trailed closely behind her, exchanging silent glares that screamed, "You're the tagalong!"
Upon reaching the parking area, the trio climbed into Wang Yue’s hovercar.
Once the engine hummed to life, Wang Yue asked, "Xiao Xi, where would you like to go?"
"To the amusement park!" Chen Peng blurted out instantly. Despite her physical appearance, she clearly possessed the heart of a child.
Chen Xi’s only real desire was Wang Yue's company, so she had no particular destination in mind.
Hearing her sister’s enthusiastic plea, she nodded. "Alright, the amusement park it is."
While an amusement park was the last place Wang Yue wanted to be, he wouldn't dream of refusing Chen Xi. He steered the vehicle away from the Chen family manor and accelerated into the distance.
As he drove, the lighthearted banter between the two sisters filled the cabin. Wang Yue’s earlier restless urges began to fade, and even his physiological arousal subsided. He realized that life offered many joys beyond mere lust and carnal desire.
In that brief window of time, Wang Yue found himself softened by the pure, innocent aura radiating from the sisters.
Amusement parks had remained largely unchanged for centuries. Given that human survival was constantly threatened by vicious beasts, society hadn't prioritized evolving the entertainment industry.
Currently a master at the eighth level of the Gui Zhen realm, Wang Yue found the "thrilling" attractions quite dull; they lacked the power to stir his seasoned emotions.
Conversely, Chen Xi and Chen Peng were having the time of their lives. Chen Peng was particularly fond of the high-intensity rides, such as the space ships and rollercoasters.
It was somewhat baffling that a martial artist of her caliber could find excitement in machines designed to stimulate ordinary people.
Since it wasn't a public holiday, the park was relatively empty. This was a stroke of luck for the group, as they could bypass the usual long lines after getting their tickets.
The Chen family actually held the majority of shares in this very park, but the sisters chose to keep their identity as the Young Mistresses of the Chen clan a secret.
However, their striking presence—a handsome man accompanied by two stunning women—made them impossible to ignore. They naturally became the focal point of the crowd wherever they walked.
It didn't take long for the park's administration to notice their arrival.
A group of managers approached to offer their services, but Wang Yue quickly dismissed them.
After conquering every high-speed ride, Chen Peng was still hungry for more. "Second sister, let's try the haunted house!"
"What could possibly be fun about that?" Wang Yue asked, sounding tired.
As martial artists, their senses were far more acute than those of a normal person. The artificial "eerie" atmosphere would be completely lost on them. Furthermore, Chen Peng’s courage was legendary; if a real ghost actually appeared, it would probably be the one running away in fear.
Despite his logic, Chen Peng was adamant, and Chen Xi was happy to spoil her.
Soon enough, the three entered the dark corridors of the haunted house, which echoed with synthesized groans and screams.
In a place designed for jump-scares, none of them felt even a flicker of dread.
Chen Peng, however, was having a blast, letting out playful shrieks of joy every time a "specter" popped out from the shadows.
Wang Yue and Chen Xi followed behind her, holding hands and occasionally sharing tender, loving looks.
It was a nauseatingly romantic scene, but Chen Peng was so preoccupied with the attractions that she remained oblivious to the "public display of affection" behind her.
Halfway through the attraction, a piercing, genuine scream echoed from the path ahead. Chen Peng wasn't frightened by the "ghosts," but the suddenness of that sound made her jump.
Her curiosity was immediately piqued. Without a word to her companions, she bolted toward the source of the noise.
Wang Yue and Chen Xi chased after her. Even though they doubted there was any real threat, their protective instincts for the young girl took over.
For Chen Xi, it was the deep bond she shared with her sisters and their cousin, Chen Yao. For Wang Yue, despite his constant bickering with Chen Peng, he truly cared for her as if she were his own flesh and blood.
Thanks to the girl's speed, they quickly reached the scene, only to be left speechless by what they saw.
A short distance away, three figures were huddled together in terror. It seemed they had been genuinely spooked by something.
Wang Yue noted that the group consisted of one man and two women, mirroring his own party. He recognized the man instantly—it was Zhang Qingtian, a man he had previously humiliated.
The two women with him were ordinary but quite pretty. It appeared Zhang Qingtian was using the scary environment as a tactic to get close to them.
Usually, when women are frightened, they seek refuge in a man's embrace. Unfortunately for Wang Yue, his companions were powerful martial artists who didn't need his protection from cardboard ghosts.
Though the lighting was poor, Chen Peng could tell these were just people, not anything supernatural.
Disappointed, she turned away. "How boring. Let's just leave."
One of the women clinging to Zhang Qingtian was either naturally haughty or had grown arrogant by being in his company.
Hearing Chen Peng’s youthful, high-pitched voice, she snapped, "Where did this brat come from? Get lost and stop ruining our time!"
Chen Peng’s temper flared instantly. "I didn't do a thing to you, so why are you screaming at me?"
As the pampered princess of the most influential family in Jinling, she didn't usually bully others, but she certainly wouldn't take an insult lying down. "Watch your mouth!" she barked back.
"Oh? You want to play tough?" the woman sneered. "Listen here, you little brat, I could have you killed before your guardian can even blink. Do you believe me?"
"Now, now, don't be so hostile. Let's all have some fun together," Zhang Qingtian suddenly chimed in. "Little sister, you have a lovely voice. Why don't you come closer so big brother can get a good look at you?"
That was the final straw for Wang Yue. Chen Peng was essentially his sister-in-law; he wasn't about to let some trash talk to her like that.
"Zhang Qingtian, is your skin itching for another beating? Can't you wait for your turn?" Wang Yue’s voice rang out coldly.
Zhang Qingtian flinched. That voice was etched into his very soul—a sound he both loathed and feared. In a panic, he activated the light on his wrist device.
When the light revealed the faces of Wang Yue and the two sisters, Zhang Qingtian began to tremble. He forced a strained smile. "Young Master Wang, Miss Chen... and Miss Chen... what a surprise to see you here."
"Can you see me clearly now?" Chen Peng asked with a chilling tone.
The arrogant woman still hadn't grasped the gravity of the situation.
Perhaps she thought Zhang Qingtian was invincible, or maybe she was just jealous of the sisters' superior beauty. She asked, "Brother Tian, who are these two bitches?"
"They are your ancestors!" Zhang Qingtian roared, delivering a brutal slap to the woman’s face. She spun through the air, hitting the ground with half her teeth missing.
"Young Master Wang, Misses Chen... I barely know this woman. We were just passing the time. She’s nothing but a common streetwalker."
Having dealt with the woman, Zhang Qingtian desperately tried to save his own skin. Though he believed the Zhang family would soon rule Jinling, that time hadn't arrived yet. A wise man knows when to retreat.
Seeing Zhang Qingtian’s pathetic display, the other woman stayed silent and terrified, grateful she hadn't opened her mouth. Based on his reaction, she realized these were the two princesses of the Chen family. Her friend's life was effectively over for calling them such names.
Wang Yue found the cowardice disgusting. Since Zhang Qingtian had already silenced the woman, he saw no need to escalate things further.
"You seem to be enjoying yourself quite a bit, Zhang Qingtian," Wang Yue remarked with a smirk.
"Just some light recreation," Zhang Qingtian replied, pushing his other companion away and forcing a laugh. "I truly didn't expect to run into you all. What a coincidence."
"A coincidence indeed. Carry on with your 'fun'," Wang Yue said, dismissing him with a wave of his hand as he prepared to leave with the sisters.
"Young Master Wang, hold on a moment," Zhang Qingtian called out. "Our family is hosting a gala tomorrow evening. A very influential figure from Tianhai will be there. We would be honored if you joined us."
Another "influential figure" from Tianhai? Wang Yue immediately thought of Li Chonghe, who was currently rotting in the ground. He suspected this person was part of the faction backing the Zhang family.
Zhang Qingtian was clearly trying to use this guest's reputation to intimidate him and show off.
Since Wang Yue wanted to investigate this mysterious faction anyway, he nodded. "Very well. Send the invitation to me before tomorrow night."
Zhang Qingtian chuckled. "For someone of your stature, Young Master Wang, an invitation isn't necessary. Just show up."
"Fine. I'll see you tomorrow night," Wang Yue said, turning to depart with Chen Xi and Chen Peng.
The moment they were out of sight, Zhang Qingtian’s smile twisted into a mask of pure malice. "I'll make sure you pay for everything tomorrow night!"
"Pick her up; we're leaving," Zhang Qingtian snapped at the second woman, gesturing to the unconscious one on the floor.
The woman didn't dare argue. She struggled to lift her friend and hurried to catch up with Zhang Qingtian’s retreating figure.
"Wang Yue, that invitation is definitely a trap. Zhang Qingtian up to no good. Please be careful," Chen Xi whispered as they walked.
"Don't worry. Unless they bring in a top-tier powerhouse from Tianhai, I have nothing to fear," Wang Yue said reassuringly. "If you're concerned, why don't you come with me tomorrow?"
Chen Xi considered it for a moment but eventually shook her head. "No, you should go find Chu Mo tomorrow. Have her accompany you instead."
