The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1820: Recuperating with Blood

Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Dorn uncovered critical revelations from Emperor Dominar: chaos's past incursions into the Spirit Realm, Rex's origins in the Mortal Realm, his unprecedented rapid ascent to Eternal Spirit rank, and the looming threat of chaos targeting him. As Gatekeeper, Dorn grappled with the realm's vulnerability to Chaos Realm leaks that once caused genocides, vowing to ally with Rex to avert ruin. Tensions erupted among the Gatekeepers when Zorina unilaterally triggered the Sky Judgment, a devastating ray that struck Rex and his serpent ally mid-flight, hurling them from the sky. In the aftermath, voidal monsters discovered the crash site, drawn to the immense life energy, only for one to meet a swift end at Rex's hand.

<Sudden Quest completed!>

<Rewards are being calculated...>

<Alert: the user faces a dire situation!>

<Regeneration is being overpowered by the Sky Judgment>

<Life and voidal energy scatter from the leftover power of the Sky Judgment>

<Every Soul Artifact shows cracks!>

<It’s recommended to harness the Blood Moon’s power by shedding blood, soaking in the moonlight, and consuming flesh to boost regeneration and speed up recovery>

<Alert: the user’s Spirit Body will perish in four hours>

Rex forced his eyes open and stared fiercely at the ground above. Blood bubbled in his throat as he struggled to shift his body, but nothing responded except his right hand; the rest felt completely deadened.

Agony surged through him, yet it merely fueled his fury by chipping at his pride.

Scanning the system alerts, he gripped a fistful of dirt tightly.

His claws sliced into the soil effortlessly, as if it were soft, and the pressure shattered the stones beneath with ease.

Everything unfolded in a blur.

Following his victorious howl that declared his success, he branded the Sky City according to the sudden quest. The task proved simple. He just had to trigger his Blank form and draw forth an inner strength, then unleash it toward the earth.

Rex sustained the effort for several moments, forming the Invincibility Symbol.

A furious eye in the shape of a star. He believed it to be the Invincibility Symbol of the Anger Stratum, recalling its presence on Ignatius’ form. With that, he fulfilled the sudden quest, sensing the Highseat of Invincibility stirring.

Not in his body, but within his mind.

As if something vibrant was blooming in the depths of his thoughts.

Then came the system’s warning.

He failed to dodge the strike in time, though the White Mask intervened. It protected them just before the beam hit. Without that, Rex—and the serpent too—would have been erased entirely by now.

Undeniably, the beam traveled at light’s velocity.

Too swift to follow.

"Huaarkh!"

Pressure crushed his insides, forcing blood up his throat and spraying from his lips.

Rex gasped for air before letting out a laugh.

A rough, raspy chuckle lacking true amusement. Just a savage thrill at the Sky Cities’ swift reaction. He knew five Sky Cities dotted the realm. Given the Spirit Realm’s vastness surpassing the Mortal Realm, he figured aid from others would arrive slowly.

Particularly with their immense distances apart.

He’d misjudged.

The Sky Judgment resembled a doomsday beam, disintegrating all in its path. Even presently, the spot where it had brushed him burned with unrelenting, torturous vibration. His innate healing waged a futile battle against it, prompting the system’s advice to assist.

Yet mobility eluded him.

Luckily, fortune favored him.

Rex stretched toward the fallen voidal knight and ripped into its meat with his talons.

Next, he crammed the bitter flesh between his teeth and chewed vigorously.

"See what I mean?" Rex murmured with a wicked smile, thinking back to his words for Dorn. Sensation returned to his limbs gradually, "It’s always tough to make the defeated grasp without utter destruction."

Over five minutes passed before he managed to rise to a sitting position.

Truthfully, Rex anticipated the other Gatekeepers hunting him down to confirm his demise.

Their absence suggested either they hadn’t followed, or the impact had hurled him so distant that pursuit continued. Rex’s eyes drifted sideways. The serpent remained still; its form coiled protectively around him like a dark barrier.

No pulse reached his ears. Not a single quiver. It had perished.

Still, revival awaited it, undoubtedly.

As Rex rose to his feet, a shadow descended upon him, topped by a pale mask.

"Our... deal... is... done."

"Hmm, the night isn’t over yet."

Rex tilted his head upward toward the White Mask and snarled.

He’d surrendered the Crown Embryo to the White Mask, yet slipped something extra inside.

A safeguard from the Shop set to detonate if the White Mask acted slyly.

Apparently, it detected the trap and now insisted on its removal.

"Sky... is... destroyed."

"Our deal is done, when I say... it is done."

"Sky... is... destroyed."

The White Mask uttered those three words anew. This time, it advanced nearer.

Rex tsked, realizing confrontation loomed if he pressed further.

Time pressed urgently. Four hours remained to strengthen his regeneration before his Spirit Body crumbled, yanking his soul back to the Mortal Realm. Return wasn’t an option. Not now. Thus, yielding seemed necessary.

While the White Mask’s company would prove useful, it wasn’t essential.

After his feat, none would dare assault him rashly, and his alliance with the White Mask deterred others. That standing sufficed for safe travels without constant vigilance.

At least until the Sky People mustered a real assault.

Rex thrust his arm forward and plunged his hand into the White Mask’s torso.

He extracted a silver pearl from the Crown Embryo and flicked his wrist.

Detecting the change, the White Mask faded into misty vapors and darted into the cavern wall, forsaking the site and the serpent without hesitation. Rex shook his head; a bitter snort escaped at the view.

He pivoted toward the crater’s inclined edge.

The beam’s oblique impact created an exit path without scaling.

A sharp, upward incline, yet navigable. Vastly preferable to clambering with a frail frame.

After an arduous trek, Rex emerged topside and surveyed the surroundings. Unfamiliar landscape enveloped him. Massive stone pillars thrust toward the heavens, encircled by gentle, swirling fog that draped over their heights and gathered in the valleys below.

Clearly, distance separated him from his prior location.

This might lie beyond the empire’s borders entirely.

Faintly, the murmur of far-off cascades reached him.

Rex drew a deep breath, channeling the lingering vigor from consuming the voidal knight to invoke the Blood Moon Echo. More blood trickled from his mouth, but he pressed on until the crimson artifact materialized.

He aimed the Blood Moon Echo toward the sky, and gradually, the clouds dispersed.

Revealing the Blood Moon poised to bathe him in its glow.

Gatekeepers probably trailed him still. Unveiling the clouds for the Blood Moon’s blessing ranked as utter folly. Yet the system’s scan confirmed no elite Spirits within ten miles.

Risk proved acceptable.

Mere minutes beneath the Blood Moon would restore fluid motion.

Once upright steadily, Rex headed toward the waterfalls’ source.

Typically, water signified vitality. Voidal monsters fed on life force, though, so the falls could stand barren.

Nevertheless, Rex chose to investigate and tempt fate.

Blood must spill to maximize the Blood Moon’s aid before its close.

For nearly four hours, Rex recovered.

Recovery involved bloodshed and feasting on remains.

Voidal monsters lurked at the waterfall and its vast lake, submerged entirely. Attempts to exploit them failed; they outpaced him in the depths. Though he slew a few, the pace fell short of sufficient healing.

Scaling the falls, he unexpectedly discovered a cavern concealed behind.

Within stretched a twisting maze of passages teeming with diverse voidal monsters.

Predominantly voidal knights, interspersed with voidal lords.

Slaughter could commence here, but tight confines hindered him. Open ground under the Blood Moon suited better. Thus, he prowled stealthily, aura suppressed, weaving through the cave’s winding paths.

Undoubtedly, prey turned hunter in their lair for the first time.

Unsure of voidal reproduction, he sought their offspring. None appeared.

Instead, a bigger female emerged, resembling the prior ghoul he’d felled. Slightly lesser in size, yet her shape throbbed faintly. System analysis marked her as a brood-carrier.

Capable of spawning parasitic voidal spiders for reconnaissance.

Rex judged her valuable and lunged from the darkness.

Snapping her limbs and crushing them underfoot, eliciting a wretched cry.

In the confined tunnel, her wail reverberated, drawing companions.

Rex dashed outward, hauling her along as the walls shook. Dozens of heartbeats thundered nearby. Glancing back, he faced countless luminous eyes.

A smirk spread across his features as he vaulted from the cave and pierced the waterfall.

Trailing him raged the voidal monsters, incensed by the theft.

His inner fury lingered, the Blood Moon persisting.

Proper regeneration remained elusive, however.

Every injury added strain to his healing. Upon landing, he reverted to human shape, binding his wrath into a steely core. He confronted the swarm not with talons, but martial prowess.

Sword, steps, and punches.

Motions designed to conserve energy and evade contact.

Rex ensured single blows felled each foe.

Wielding the Maw of Oblivion, that task simplified greatly.

Battle clamor lured more voidal varieties from the cave. He’d dispatched most pursuers, but the new wave charging forth broadened his grin.

Fangs extended as he bellowed at the approaching mass, primed for renewed combat.

Carnage ensued savagely.

Rex dodged and countered lesser threats. Encircled completely, victory stayed his. Fallen bodies mounted, impeding his footing. Ultimately, he stood heaving and soaked in gore.

Observers might mistake him for a voidal beast.

No delays allowed.

Though weary, he consumed the cadavers sequentially beneath the Blood Moon.

By the four-hour conclusion, he scarcely purged the Sky Judgment’s remnants.

Now, he cleansed his grimy form in a minor lake adjacent to the larger. The Blood Moon faded, spared from Kaiser’s meddling via those crystals. "It’s surprising that he didn’t hammer me with a vicious backlash from those Blood Moon Crystals. Maybe he’s ashamed?"

Remembering Kaiser’s aid to a Half-Angel through his might, Rex figured shame fit.

Fellow Lunirich Gods could mock such actions.

"No matter," Rex tilted back and sank to his neck. "This is really nice..."

Abruptly, the atmosphere altered.

Rex’s eyes snapped open, darting about for changes.

Following instinct, he rescanned via the system, eyes bulging.

<Notice: a barrier of starlight has been detected.>

"Starlight?" Rex hesitated briefly, then dread sank in. "Fuck... How did she find me?"
