The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1819: Sky Judgment

Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Emperor Dominar sat alone on his crumbling throne, his empire shattered after clashing with the Sky People on Rex's account, as corruption from Chaos spread through his veins in painful purple waves. Expecting Rex, he instead faced Dorn, the Gatekeeper of Lava, who sought a sacrifice rather than his death; Dominar accepted his doom without resistance, confessing he concealed Chaos's role to evade the merciless Skillian Divine Court. Their tense exchange uncovered traces of Chaos in the land predating Empress Morgana's arrival, hinting at a deeper scheme by Chaos forces to target the usurper Rex.

Dorn absorbed far more knowledge from Emperor Dominar than he had ever imagined.

From the emperor, he discovered that chaos had launched two assaults against the Spirit Realm, one through the corruption of the Reap and Sow Echo, and the other fueled by Morgana’s rebellion over an Archangel’s deep-seated grudge. This second incident also revealed that the Angels were entangled with chaos.

Furthermore, Dorn now possessed absolute certainty that Rex originated from the Mortal Realm.

Dorn had heard tales of werewolves, yet he couldn’t confirm it without solid proof.

After all, countless mutations lurked within the Black Rift.

This revelation struck him with the sheer horror of Rex’s capabilities.

’The Mortal Realm has grown frail in these times, yet it still holds ways to tear open portals to our domain. I—or any other Gatekeeper—would detect his arrival if he employed powerful techniques,’ Dorn’s brows furrowed even deeper in concern. ’No one felt a thing, so his entry must have been utterly insignificant. But how is that possible...?’

Every Gatekeeper carried the manifested Will of Spirit within their being.

This was a unique mutation among the Sky People, inherited across countless ages.

Such a trait enabled them to perceive any rift or intrusion into their realm, though only those posing real threats. Any entity surpassing the Master Immortal Spirit rank entering the realm would be swiftly spotted and eliminated.

For Rex to slip in undetected by any of them, he must have been utterly powerless upon arrival.

Yet in scarcely more than a month, he had ascended to the Eternal Spirit rank.

Such rapid advancement was downright horrifying.

’Mirza showed similar explosive growth. He infiltrated our realm without notice and climbed to prominence in no time,’ Dorn pondered briefly, spotting an eerie parallel between the pair. ’Could they be connected? No, Mirza isn’t a werewolf.’

Finally, Dorn realized there was a strong likelihood that chaos was pursuing Rex for some mysterious purpose.

Whatever tied into chaos posed an existential threat to the Spirit Realm.

As a Gatekeeper, Dorn held profound insight into the Chaos Realm.

More than any soul in the entire realm, without question.

Part of his role involved barring invaders from foreign realms, including those from the Chaos Realm.

Voidal Monsters stemmed from leaks at the Chaos Realm’s outermost layer, known as the Surface, though a handful of Voidal Monarchs hailed from its deeper zones. The Spirit Realm lay in devastation due to this very seepage.

The catastrophe had flipped everything upside down, sparking waves of mass extinctions.

Among them was the near annihilation of the Angel race.

With the prospect of a superior entity from the Chaos Realm now in play... Dorn swallowed hard.

The mere thought sent chills racing through him.

Not even fortune could spare them from doom.

All the realm’s dwellers could do back then was plead for aid from neighboring realms.

In particular, the God Realm, for utmost security.

Emperor Dominar counted among the fortunate, as his impending death would shield him from witnessing the realm’s total collapse. Dorn, however, shouldered the crushing burden as the first to uncover the looming peril.

He was the initial soul damned with awareness of his realm’s potential obliteration.

And as its Gatekeeper, he couldn’t simply avert his gaze and wish for fortune.

It was his solemn vow to act against it.

’Stay near the usurper...’ Dorn mused inwardly while exiting the throne room. Emperor Dominar strode alongside him. ’To start, I must gain his trust. Fulfilling his demand is the initial move toward that. Next, I’ll have to sway the other Gatekeepers to—’

Dorn’s reflections cut short as he spotted the Gatekeeper of Shadow and Light locked in heated dispute.

Both awaited his return.

Merely minutes had elapsed, yet they were now clashing intensely.

"I refuse to debate this with you," the Gatekeeper of Light dismissed with a wave of her hand. Arms folded tightly, she turned aside, refusing even a glance. "I won’t converse with a coward who doesn’t even possess the guts to strike back."

"I never claimed we shouldn’t fight back, you rude harlot," the Gatekeeper of Shadow snapped his tongue in fury. His advanced years had stripped away any restraint between thought and speech. "I’m just insisting we proceed with utmost caution."

"Who’re you labeling a harlot, you ancient mutt!"

"Address what I’m actually saying. Quit dodging the real point."

The Gatekeeper of Light scoffed with disdain.

"You wish I’d stop overlooking your timidity? Very well. We didn’t seek this conflict first. Is it unjust for us to reply in kind?! Our kin were massacred."

"And countless more will perish due to your narrow vision! This is utter folly!"

A squad of one hundred armored spirits stormed into the courtyard, commanded by a Baron. He swept his gaze over the castle entrance and fixed a menacing stare on the Gatekeepers holding the emperor captive. The epitome of chivalry, he unsheathed his blade and thrust it ahead.

"Rescue the emperor!" He bellowed, spearheading the assault.

His followers mirrored the charge, invoking their Soul Artifacts.

In moments of crisis, schemers gambled on the emperor’s survival odds.

Should he endure, the empire would persist, boosting their own ranks dramatically. Yet their timing proved fatal. As the Baron vaulted toward the bickering Gatekeepers, a surge of raw force engulfed him.

Both the Gatekeeper of Light and Shadow gestured sharply.

Swoosh—!

A blast of light and shadow erupted outward.

Its force vaporized half the squad into radiant bursts, while the rest dissolved into dark, inky sludge.

The Baron suffered the same fate, one side incinerated and the other liquefied.

Not a single one had a prayer.

Right then, Dorn reached them, "What’s happening here?"

"It’s trivial," the Gatekeeper of Light averted her gaze. Her chest rose and fell rapidly from lingering rage.

"It’s far from trivial!" the Gatekeeper of Shadow whirled toward Dorn. "This foolish wench—reached out to the other Sky Cities and triggered the Sky Judgment. She alone consented, so it won’t hit full force, but it’s still a massive gamble!"

Dorn’s complexion drained to pallor in an instant.

He had already aligned with them to hold back until the crisis clarified.

But the Gatekeeper of Light had acted solo.

"Tell me he’s fabricating this," Dorn faced her, his features contorting in wrath. Silence met him, confirming her secret deed. "Zorina—you didn’t go through with it. We discussed this right before arriving..."

"Wake up," Emperor Dominar murmured from nearby. "Time’s slipping away."

Dorn jolted from his daze at the words.

He glanced skyward, "Where did you direct it? Where did you unleash that extinction ray?!"

Receiving no reply from Zorina, he soared upward swiftly, with the Gatekeeper of Shadow trailing.

"What’s the issue?" He inquired, observing the profound dread etched on Dorn’s features. "What secrets did that emperor reveal?"

"That our realm desperately requires him!" Dorn snarled while hurtling toward the Sky City.

He ascended like a blazing comet.

Roar—!!

Suddenly, a recognizable howl echoed.

It originated from Rex, no question. He yearned to accelerate, but it was already too late.

Off to his right, miles distant, a piercing white glow streaked closer, illuminating the midnight expanse for a fleeting instant. His arm extended on reflex, conjuring lava from nowhere to shield Rex, yet the beam proved blindingly swift.

CRASH—!

Dorn shielded his eyes with raised arms.

Through his fingers, he witnessed the Sky City quake under the beam’s impact.

Then, piercing the trailing clouds from the left rear, the serpent erupted—a howling comet as the radiance fractured its hide and charred its form to charred devastation. Its bellow vibrated deep into the marrow.

Even for someone like him, beholding the extinction ray strained his vision painfully.

His eyes burned crimson, yet he compelled himself to observe.

Not for thrill, but to confirm if Rex had been struck.

Regrettably, his worst fears materialized as he spotted Rex hurtling across the darkened heavens. Cradled within the serpent’s coils, the beam still engulfed him. The glow and Rex vanished beyond the skyline, leaving Dorn powerless to intervene.

As darkness reclaimed the sky, he spun and fixed a furious glare on Zorina.

She appeared pleased with the outcome, oblivious to the catastrophe she had unleashed.

"Just what’s unfolding?" the Gatekeeper of Shadow glided over to Dorn and demanded. "Why does that... creature matter so much to our realm?"

"He could be our key to erasing the Black Rift," Dorn replied through clenched teeth. He sensed the Gatekeeper of Shadow’s hunger for details, but the moment wasn’t right. "For now, ensure Zorina doesn’t pull another reckless stunt? Force her if necessary."

"And you?"

"I must hunt down that usurper," Dorn peered upward, noting silhouettes plummeting from the Sky City. Those had to be the Shade Crawlers under Rex’s control. "If that ray killed him, we’re doomed. And if he endured... he won’t depart this realm anytime soon."

...

A pair of voidal monsters gnawed at several newly slain bodies.

A wandering band of Spirits had ventured into their domain, and their Seeker had malfunctioned disastrously. With defenses faltered, it became easy prey for the two Ghoul-resembling Voidal Knights patrolling nearby.

Every morsel sliding down their gullets sparked vitality.

It brimmed with potent life force that sent thrilling shivers along their spines.

As they wrapped up the initial corpse, they froze suddenly.

Both detected the quaking atmosphere and scanned warily, dreading a mighty voidal beast lurked close.

But no voidal beast it was.

A radiant speck flickered afar, and before they could move, it cratered the earth beside them.

CRASH—!

On pure instinct, one Voidal Knight bolted aside, snatching a corpse along.

The other braced against the tremor and growled at the disturbance.

Enraged at the interruption of its feast, it stalked to the crash site and beheld a steaming crater in the soil. The depth swallowed all sight from above, even with its keen eyes adapted to the Black Rift’s gloom.

Still, an overwhelming surge of life force wafted from below.

Without hesitation, it plunged in with a eager smirk.

The drop exceeded its guess. It hit hard, stumbling and snapping its ankle sharp. But such a trivial fracture meant little to a Voidal Knight; it mended in moments.

Surveying the depths, it quaked at the view of a colossal, charred beast encircling the chasm.

The carcass radiated a staggering life force.

From its lingering presence alone, it outclassed a Voidal Lord, rendering it vastly superior to the knight. Yet the alarm faded quickly upon realizing the beast lay lifeless.

Windfall.

The Voidal Knight had no clue of the carcass’s source, but consuming it could propel it to Voidal Lord status. As it scaled closer, hunting for a split in the hide to tear into the meat, its gaze caught another figure.

It sprawled inert on the ground, enfolded by the beast’s twisted form.

Unlike the slain monster, this entity pulsed with life, though faintly so.

As if fate favored it that day, this one surpassed a Voidal Lord too. Being alive, it promised even richer energy harvest, so the knight opted to consume it first before injuries claimed it.

Yet as its jaws neared for the bite, a hand lashed out.

The grip seized its visage, and with a crush, its skull burst apart.
