The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1811: Claiming the Superpower
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
"No, it's not him... It's me. It's been ages since I last battled with everything I've got," Emperor Dominar's eyes shimmered brightly. "Don't look down on me!!"
Within his chest, the Reap and Sow Echo began to shine.
It harvested the injuries inflicted upon him, restoring his body immediately, before unleashing a hidden gust of wind directly toward Rex. Detecting the threat, Rex veered to the side in a hurry, yet the gust pursued relentlessly and inflicted severe harm upon him.
Splash—!
His arms burst apart in sprays of blood.
Not only was the harm transferred to him, but it also intensified.
As anticipated, the Reap and Sow Echo proved incredibly potent.
"That's the spirit! Let's continue attempting to slay one another! Let blood pour like rain on this splendid evening!"
Rex chuckled heartily. Despite the agonizing torment and the loss of his arms, he burst into laughter. Voidal energy surged into his form, and in a flash, his arms regenerated. The strength of his Parasitic Regeneration passive skill had grown even more formidable.
Crimson liquid dripped from his hands as he formed a massive, house-like orb of solidified blood.
Yet another Inevitable Death.
With the Blood Moon Echo now in his possession, employing this mighty technique carried no penalties anymore.
He could unleash it freely, as often as desired.
Bam—!
Rex propelled the orb toward the emperor and gazed upward.
True to his hopes, the serpent and the White Mask continued ascending toward the sky. Their progress slowed by the cannon's beam assaults, yet they pressed on. Now, they were merely five hundred meters from the Sky People.
A bit further, and they'd make it.
However, his gaze caught the Sky People's forces swooping down to block their path.
Waves of elemental soldiers descended like heavenly guardians. At least a hundred strong. Clad in what resembled divine armor. Each group shared a consistent hue, but additional fighters emerged from the clouds and beams of golden radiance.
This force appeared more cohesive than the trailing elemental ranks, numbering in the thousands.
One unit consisted of warriors formed purely from clouds, while another from beams of sunlight.
Paladins.
Rex remembered Devo's actual form from the look of the Cloud Paladins, though far less imposing.
From Kaelthar's words, four defenses guarded against unauthorized intrusions.
Sky Watchers, Cloud Paladins, Sun Paladins, and the Heaven’s Opening.
The Sky Watchers served as the cannons, and now the paladins arrived.
Boom—!
Rex rocketed upward via the Voidal Moonflow Acceleration. His enhanced body let him activate this ability repeatedly without pause. To those below, it seemed he treaded the air effortlessly.
Shielded by the Law of Misdirection and Minor Law of Foresight, he nimbly evaded the descending beams.
He surpassed the serpent and positioned himself boldly atop it, confronting the heavens fearlessly.
His arms extended wide. Wild laughter bubbled in his chest. And his eyes sparkled with an intensified frenzy.
High above, three imposing silhouettes hovered like gods surveying the earthly realm.
Among them, a lady enveloped in flawless white radiance, dressed in a spotless white gown with a flowing milky veil above, peered down at the bloodthirsty Rex. "What's wrong with him?" she inquired. Her tone revealed inner worry. The frenzied stare troubled her deeply. "Why is he so obsessed with assaulting us?"
"I have no idea," replied another silhouette, a male with a lava-composed frame, shaking his head. "But he's resolute, no doubt."
"He declared himself a knight of the Haeltara Empire," responded an elderly man in dark robes, caressing his exceedingly long beard. "He also accused us of seizing someone vital from the empire. Absurd. Surely, it's a mix-up."
"Mix-up or otherwise, this empire shows remarkable audacity for its knight to act so aggressively."
"Indeed. We ought to punish them severely."
"Still, this knight possesses considerable skill. He's drawing nearer to our position."
"The Sky Paladins will halt him. He's gifted, yet impulsive. In our world, such impulsiveness leads only to early demise. Should he endure by some miracle, the Heaven’s Opening will obliterate him and his empire alike."
Yet another silhouette approached them.
Bolts of lightning danced over his shape, his body resembling a floating cloud.
"Gatekeeper Rezar, come to watch the spectacle as well?" the elderly man, the Gatekeeper of Shadow, queried in a lighthearted manner. Rezar's absence had been noted; his appearance surprised. "I figured you'd be attempting a breakthrough."
"What's happening here?" He brushed off the elder and glanced below. "Who might that be?"
"A fellow named Rex Silverstar," the Gatekeeper of Light explained. "A knight seeking a key individual he thinks we Sky People captured."
Rezar's expression flickered, though unseen by others.
He peered downward, fixing his gaze on Rex, smirking at the futile effort.
'Is this the Human he's been bragging about?' Rezar examined Rex closely. 'Perfect. I'll claim his head. That should shatter his defiance.'
Meanwhile, Rex crouched low and folded his arms around his torso as if embracing himself.
A guttural groan echoed from his throat while his jet-black fur rippled and shone with a metallic luster. Voidal energy infused his frame. Violet lightning crackled over his form, and in the following moment, he flung his body toward the sky.
From amid his dark fur, innumerable eyes materialized.
Monstrous entities surged forth—like an unending wave of darkness. Enormous black wolves. Thousands erupted from within him and barreled toward the approaching paladins—like flowing ink. Every one snarled and exposed its teeth without hesitation.
He invoked the Monarch of Savage Beast to call these forth.
They dispersed widely and assaulted the paladins.
Scores, perhaps a hundred, perished under the Sky Watchers' onslaught.
A single paladin felled ten with a single strike.
Yet their issue lay not in power, but in sheer quantity. Soon, they overran the paladins entirely as the serpent weaved through the breach, shattering the lines—and closing to within one hundred meters of the Sky City.
Rex's frenzied gaze locked onto the four grand silhouettes overhead.
And his mouth twisted into a vicious smirk.
"By the empire's authority, I shall bring you low."
The four silhouettes chuckled simultaneously.
Suddenly, a radiant emerald barrier materialized, dividing Rex from the Sky People. It startled Rex, repelling all advances toward the Sky People—like an impenetrable shield. No energy traces hovered above them. And judging by the subtle astonishment on the four silhouettes' faces, this wasn't their doing.
Not the Heaven’s Opening.
Rex glanced downward. It stemmed from the emperor.
He couldn't draw near without clashing with the paladins or enduring the beam showers, but that didn't signify retreat. For the first time in millennia, he yearned intensely for one thing.
And that was preventing Rex from tarnishing the empire's reputation.
<Notice: the wall is entirely made up of the power of Law!>
<Scanning the Law...>
<Law of Latency was detected!>
Boom—!
The serpent slammed into the barrier and failed to breach it. The White Mask lent aid, but the shield held firm. Simultaneously, a huge golden magical array surfaced beneath the cloud supporting the Sky City, now transformed into a towering cumulonimbus formation.
Energy surged along its two-mile span, shaking the whole domain below.
<Warning!>
<Warning: there’s an excessive amount of energy being aimed at the user!>
A torrent of crimson alerts swamped his sight.
Clearly, the System alerted him that enduring this strike would prove fatal, even in his present condition. It would vaporize him, the White Mask, and the serpent in one go. This had to be the Heaven’s Opening. The core defense of the Sky City.
Its might had been built over countless years by voraciously absorbing life forces and voidal energies.
Yielding a ray capable of instant annihilation.
From the expressions of these four godlike beings, it was evident they intended to make an example of Rex.
Perhaps their prestige had faded with time, and the world had forgotten their true might. Unleashing the Sky City's ultimate weapon would undoubtedly reignite the primal dread in all hearts.
Yet it continued to build power.
An assault of such magnitude required preparation time. Time enough for Rex to act.
HONG—!
Mid-air, Rex dropped into a ready pose and drew the Blood Moon's blessing into his veins.
His arched horns pulsed with red light.
Below his feet, sustaining his hover, stood the Aegis of Moon Sentinel. He balanced on its slender golden rim like a specter. His muscles swelled as the Red Dawn of Kaiser pulsed with escalating force.
Against the Heaven’s Opening, most would shrink back.
Rex? He eagerly awaited the shock on the four beings' faces as he unleashed turmoil upon their haven.
Both the Law of Misdirection and Inevitability coated his obsidian claws in a flawless glow. No paladin could touch him, though they tried desperately. When prepared, the Aegis of Moon Sentinel angled and hurled him upward.
Boom—!
Even against the Sky City's oppressive force, Rex shattered the sound barrier and ascended like a shooting star.
Rex tore through the atmosphere, gathering turbulent and thick energy in his claws, then propelled backward—with the Voidal Moonflow Acceleration boosting his ascent. As he approached the barrier, he drew back his claws. He focused the energy into them, and with a mighty roar, he smashed into the wall.
CRACK—!
Beneath the threefold barrage, fissures raced across the emerald barrier.
With a final united effort, it fragmented.
Now, nothing barred the way to the Sky City.
But simultaneously, the Heaven’s Opening completed its charge.
All four beings grinned, convinced of Rex's doom. Even they couldn't withstand the Heaven’s Opening without grave risk. For one of his caliber, survival was impossible. It was over. This brazen incursion would conclude here.
Their grins wavered as Rex countered with a taunting grin of his own.
He was the one trapped; they remained secure.
Still, his demeanor implied the reverse.
And strangely, the four beings trusted his look over their instincts.
"Senior Ignatius," a whisper slipped from Rex's mouth. "Time to deliver my greeting present."
Rumble—!
The world's hues vanished in a heartbeat. The entire domain quaked. Molten lava burst from the earth as if celebrating the advent of something colossal. Even the four beings sensed a chilling gust of mortality creep along their backs.
An overpowering aura from above gripped their essences.
An overwhelming force beyond their grasp.
Rigid and perspiring, they tilted their heads upward. That's when their terror gained form.
From the pitch-black void of the high stratosphere, a blazing meteor—spanning like a mountain chain, immense as a landmass's core—shredded the heavens. Cracks on its exterior revealed the incandescent lava within. As the initial surge of energy cascaded from it, the four beings crouched in astonishment.
Among the quartet, Rezar dropped to his knees in utter disbelief.
His eyes bulged in astonishment.
"What on earth?! Who could that be?!"
"I've never sensed such overwhelming might! Has the empire gained a new ally?!"
"Unbelievable!"
"Reach out to the Divine Saintess! We require her aid!"
One among them, the Gatekeeper of Light, mentally contacted Kei Xun.
Silence returned.
The Divine Saintess had forsaken them, leaving them to face this nightmare alone.
Rex, meanwhile, admired the mere hint of strength from his upcoming foe. Ignatius refrained from direct involvement in the Kaiser conflict due to Scions' traditions, but against the Sky People? That changed everything.
This served as his welcome offering from a veteran Scion.
And for the first time, Rex felt truly positive about his predicament.
"I didn't seek this path. I avoided extremes. Yet no alternatives remained," Rex extended his arms outward, embracing the surrounding turmoil and ruin. "And so... I, the usurper, seize this realm's supreme power."
KABOOM—!!!
