[A mutant corpse has been detected!]
[You have acquired the Divine Sin Wheel!]
[Divine Sin Wheel is undergoing an upgrade…]
…
Suddenly, a bunch of notifications flashed in front of Vritra, making him freeze for an instant.
He stopped his exploration and stayed put.
[Divine Sin Wheel has been upgraded!!]
{Sin Point Gained: Touched a Corpse +24}
'Looks like the Sin Wheel has truly transformed. I haven't gotten alerts from anyone else's responses either.' Vritra realized this right then, because he typically overlooked those pop-ups.
He pondered what shifts the lottery system might have seen.
Next, he eyed the trio of mangled remains. Wasting no time, Vritra reached out to contact the fragments of their forms.

…
{Sin Points: 86}
"And what's the cost to spin the wheel now… can I buy attributes like before?" he muttered to himself.
"You can spin it using various sin point amounts, such as 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, and beyond. Naturally, spending more yields superior prizes. Oh yeah, just query it directly, and it'll respond." Divine offered, stepping in to assist.
"Hmm, how many sin points for buying attributes?" Vritra inquired.
{0.5 random attribute point = 1,000 Sin Points}
"So 2,000 sin points for a single attribute point? Damn, that's steep. Divine, any chance to drop the price?" With direct access to the creator, Vritra voiced his frustration.
"It's more complicated than that. If possible, I'd hand it all over without hassle. Plenty of factors are at play. Still, if fortune favors you, the lottery can snag them for far fewer points." He answered with a sense of resignation.
Vritra merely shook his head. As concentration took hold, a ghostly wheel materialized in his view.
Though the outcome stayed hidden, it appeared luck boosts were gone for good.
Worst outcome, something useful would still emerge.
After a brief pause, he declared: "Spin for 20 sin points."
{Used 20 Sin Points.}
The wheel whirled rapidly before halting on a specific slot.
{Congratulations, you have obtained 10 bottles of energy drinks!}
"Energy drinks?!" Shock hit him. Apparently, sustenance could come via this method. Not a bad haul.
"Hold on, do I still have access to my inventory?" The beverages had vanished straight into storage.
This proved handy.
"Spin for 50 sin points prize." Vritra steeled his resolve and commanded it, eager to test further.
{Congratulations, you have acquired 1 Agility attribute point!}
A surge of warmth flooded Vritra's frame right away, with the shift evident.
His speed, reflexes, and similar traits had doubled in an instant.
"Sweet, that's equivalent to 2,000 points." Vritra flexed his limbs experimentally, sensing the clear improvement.
"Pitiful one, we didn't uncover much around here. Just scraps of food, plus these blades and machetes." Shitless and Onest displayed the tools they'd gathered.
"Hmm, haul them to the other unit. I'll join shortly." Vritra instructed.
"Alright, scavenging eats here looks tough." Onest let out a breath. Even after their recent meal, hunger would return before long.
Once they departed, Vritra murmured: "Spin for 10 sin points prize."
The wheel turned and…
{Congratulations, you have obtained 10 bottles of water!}
{Sin Points: 6}
'I'll have to rack up more sin points; corpse contact should suffice.' He mused, then approached the window to peer out.
A dense blanket of white blanketed everything, with heavy snow dumping down.
Positioned on the twelfth level, several stories loomed overhead.
Numerous mutants dotted the exterior, some even encased in the frost.
Yet the far-off view stunned Vritra.
"Is that the tower I must attain in two and a half years?"
Visibility was low, yet it towered immensely, vanishing into the clouds, utterly massive!
BANG
Right then, a thud echoed from the adjacent unit. With a scowl, he pivoted and dashed over.
The entrance was secured, so after scanning for mutants, he rapped on it.
Moments later, it swung open. Bursting in, Vritra spotted Maeve facing a massive cockroach.
The bug rivaled a football in size. Crimson liquid seeped from the bar gripped in Maeve's hand as she breathed heavily.
She'd just crushed the oversized vermin's skull, though its limbs twitched faintly.
BANG BANG
Maeve hammered it twice more until it went still for good.
Only then did tension ease from her.
"Where'd that thing crawl from?" Vritra drew nearer.
"It burst through suddenly, haa haa, from a hole in the ceiling and leaped at me." Maeve explained. The shock had rattled her briefly.
A wave of heat coursed through Maeve abruptly, while various alerts danced in her sight.
"I… I think I've awakened!" The demoness cried out. Every stat had jumped by 0.2.
"Oh? Got some power now?" Vritra questioned, crouching to prod the lifeless insect.
{Sin Point Gained: Touched a Corpse +19}
"Yeah, something tied to shadows, I believe." Maeve replied. Details remained sparse.
"Great job, foxie." Vritra rose, cleaned his palms, and ruffled her hair.
Gazing at the breach overhead, he figured more mutant bugs lurked higher up.
"Guess we'll need to purge this structure and boost our power before escaping." Vritra muttered.
"But that hideous beast is probably still lurking out there. We can't take it yet." Fiona pointed out.
"Hey, we've got decoys, haven't we? Like Shitless and Onest?" Vritra remarked, slapping the monk's back.
"Yes, wait what…" Onest caught on to his role as bait.
Their expressions drew a chuckle from Vritra, who continued: "I'm heading out to scout the rest of the floor's units first."
"Stay safe, dear." Diana urged, aware they couldn't aid him much.
"Hmm, remain here." Vritra replied, moving to the exit.
"Hold on, master, mind if I tag along?" Maeve interjected while experimenting with her new gift, then demonstrated: "I can conceal us, see?"
Instantly, shadows enveloped her form completely, and blending into a dim spot rendered her invisible.
"Fine, but stay alert." Vritra warned gravely.
Together, they ventured into the hall, which remained empty.
They swiftly advanced to the third dwelling and ransacked it.
"Seven bodies!!" Vritra exclaimed at the sight of a whole family's remains.
With a heavy sigh, he hastily gathered the sin points.
Nothing valuable lingered inside; those four thugs had likely slain them all.
{Sin Points: 147}
They proceeded to the next unit, finding it devoid of corpses.
Emerging, Vritra looked upward, mulling his choices.
Ascending posed risks, yet holing up indefinitely wasn't viable.
Should his abilities grow and the group awaken fully, advancement would accelerate dramatically.
"Foxie, we're heading upstairs. Stick tight and prepare." Vritra directed, edging toward the staircase.
His enhanced speed offered little edge versus those horrors.
They ascended with utmost quiet, only to halt abruptly.
At least ten zombies shuffled through the hallway.
