Vritra didn't utter a single word before he started tormenting two of the lords, leaving them utterly speechless from the start.
From his power, he summoned small dust creatures that burrowed into their forms from every direction.
Their flesh ripped open as those minuscule beasts, resembling ants, abruptly glowed and grew scorching hot.
Their eyes were gradually shredded apart, while their agonized cries sent chills of dread through everyone else.
Ignoring it all, Vritra ramped up the agony without a pause.
Among the bunch, Red felt the deepest terror, fully aware that this figure was the dreaded demon Vritra himself.
'Damn damn, and I figured I'd escaped with my life—how in the world did he come back from the grave? Argh, I never should've joined that battle, somebody please rescue me!!'
Terror gripped him as he mentally wailed, the ongoing torment reminding him of Vritra's merciless nature.
Soon enough, the pair perished, their corpses twisted into grotesque, unrecognizable shapes.
What horrified the survivors more was how, as their souls tried to flee, a monstrous chimera swallowed them whole.
'Wait, isn't that the chimera Oracle wielded during the war? How'd he claim it?' Red pondered in panic, solidifying his conviction that this was indeed Vritra.
"Okay, who's up next?" Vritra inquired, scanning the group with a steady gaze.
"P-Please, we're willing to answer every question you have—just ask and let us live. We've never crossed you." One lord pleaded in the group, voice quaking.
"True enough, none of you have offended me. But he has, and you'll all pay the price because of him."
Vritra declared, abruptly jabbing a finger at Red, who shook violently with icy sweat pouring down.
The others shot him furious looks at once, itching to pummel him senseless.
"Now, what I'm after is info on that abrupt shift—the spores, the mutations?" He questioned them calmly, eyeing each one before adding:
"Whoever speaks up avoids the pain."
"…" Silence hung for a beat as they exchanged uneasy glances.
"S-Sir, we truly know zilch about it—Twilight's not involved in any of that." One man finally blurted out, with the rest nodding vigorously.
"I doubt that—if you stay quiet, I'll kill one of you every time I ask again."
Vritra warned, hurling one far off, where fresh screams erupted across the space.
"Anyone know now?" Vritra pressed, arms folded across his torso.
"…Trust us, we k-know nothing at all—we're just as lost as you. D-Didn't you witness tons of our folks turning into those beasts?" Another chimed in desperately.
"Incorrect." Vritra sighed, flinging yet another away.
Two victims now writhed in torment.
"Tell me now." He restated firmly, holding his patience.
…
This cycle dragged on briefly, but none could provide real answers. In sheer panic, a few fabricated tales, yet Vritra saw right through the lies.
Once seventeen lay dead, Vritra shifted his attention to the quivering Red.
"Hey Red, word is you're thriving in Twilight—still keen on me tagging along with your crew?" Vritra teased with a subtle smirk.
"Uh- N-No sir, who am I to drag you into my group hehe, that was pure mix-up. I never intended to d-disrespect you—it was all that Oracle's fault—"
Red stammered, his skinless frame as exposed as ever.
"Heh, pinning it on the deceased—clever move. Oh yeah, where's your clone buddy at?" Vritra probed, seeing potential value in that one.
"H-Him? I know his spot—w-will you let me go if I spill?" Red begged wretchedly, cornered with no escape.
"Bargaining? Haha." Vritra laughed lightly, then directed Psyche to seize control of him briefly.
"Wha- ughh." Red winced sharply as Psyche dominated his form.
"Master…" Psyche voiced.
"Scan his memories for the clone's whereabouts." Vritra ordered, pondering deeply.
'Looks like these folks are clean on this evolution mess. Sigh, it doesn't feel natural either—haa, Divine, why the silence?'
"Master, got it." Psyche announced, relaying the details to Vritra.
Without delay, Vritra forwarded the intel to Onest, urging him to snatch that power.
Before, Onest could mimic abilities short-term, but as a lord, he gained the knack to outright pilfer them.
Cloning skills and recollections alike proved a solid asset.
"Got it, heading there now." Onest shot back eagerly from afar.
As Psyche departed, Red howled in horror, grasping the doom looming over him.
"Fine, I'll toy with this swine a bit—head out for now." Vritra told his quietly watching wives.
Vanessa and the rest fixed Red with venomous stares.
"Time we settle our score with him." Yasmine growled, unleashing fierce flames that swallowed Red, searing his flesh.
Fiona, Diana, and Vanessa joined the fray, unleashing savage blows without restraint.
"Keep him breathing, even if it's faint." Vritra sensed their bottled rage and let them vent.
Minutes of relentless assault later, as Red teetered on death's edge, Vritra halted them; after hurling curses, they departed.
"So, what kind of end do you fancy?" Vritra grinned down at the scarcely living heap.
"S-Spa… me-" Red rasped hoarsely, agony overwhelming him, yet even self-destruction eluded him.
No more talk needed, Vritra dosed him with healing elixir and bided time till recovery, then kicked off fresh torment.
Round after round, he'd mend him only to shatter him worse.
Over two hours ticked by before Red finally expired, enduring hellish suffering that fueled endless regrets.
Pleading for a swift end.
"Sigh, now what's my play for the chaos out there?" Vritra massaged his brow and exited the dimensional book.
Stepping out, he spotted five wives clustered nearby.
Teresa stood among them too.
"Tess, finished up?" Vritra queried, admiring his brilliant spouse once more.
"Yes, husband. All set—these gadgets block not just the frost but the spores too. Barring some catastrophe, we can contain the harm." Teresa beamed back.
Exhaustion clearly weighed on her.
"You've poured in so much effort—are you famished?" Vritra stroked her hair, prioritizing her well-being over the invention.
"Mhmm, somewhat—haa, let's deploy it first." Teresa murmured faintly, outlining its operation.
Vritra grasped the disc-shaped gadget, toy-like in appearance, marveling anew at her ingenuity.
With ample power fed in, it could shield the whole world, halting snow and spores while purging those already settled.
"Alright, I'll activate this, then we'll grab a meal toge-" Vritra headed to the window mid-sentence, but abruptly Teresa collapsed, her delicate frame tumbling downward.
