Fiona, Diana, Vanessa, Maeve, Yennefer, Teresa, Yasmine.
Without pausing, Fiona continued with a grin on her lips as she said: "Teresa, go ahead and introduce yourself along with your connection to hubby."
"Oh!" Teresa stood there shyly, since the conversation revolved around her and Yennefer's aura somehow left her feeling uneasy for no clear reason.
With a nod, she replied: "H-Hello, I'm Teresa Arclis. I'm husband's wife-"
Vritra cocked his head the opposite way, sealing his own fate completely in that moment.
He shot a look at Fiona, who appeared thoroughly satisfied, and resolved to get even with her down the line.
Later on, he'd make her suffer intensely enough that rising from bed would prove impossible.
"Ah, so you refer to him as husband?" Yennefer inquired, her smile present yet carrying an icy edge.
"Y-Yes…" Teresa responded, glancing about anxiously while trying to figure out the situation.
She remained unaware of many details concerning Vritra.
"I understand, how delightful that must be, husband? The moment I vanish, you quickly secure a substitute for me?" Yennefer's grin vanished at last, replaced by fury directed at Vritra.
Her death had led him to welcome another woman into his life, stirring up bitterness and envy within her. She recalled vividly how, after her own error, he had simply vanished from her world.
The pain it inflicted lingered, yet now he stood as the offender.
"No, she's not meant to replace you or similar, allow me to clarify-" Vritra attempted to say, despite being coerced into the marriage, her perspective painted it as a deep betrayal.
"Hmph, explain what? Is this the value you placed on all my affection?" Yennefer's beautiful features grew sorrowful while she averted her gaze, refusing to look his way.
"Hey, why is everyone frozen in place? Assist me!! Remember that dream, wifey, mom…" Vritra pleaded, appearing utterly lost, with the odd sounds in the background only worsening matters.
"You beasts, keep it quiet!!" Vritra snapped, causing the noises to drop immediately.
"Hehe, naturally hubby, though when will our formal ceremony occur?" Yasmine questioned, letting out a soft chuckle.
She had anticipated this reaction, which explained her advice to Teresa about using "hubby" too.
"The instant Yenni's body returns, I swear!" Vritra declared earnestly, disliking the discomfort of Yennefer's displeasure toward him.
Her recent comeback filled him with the urge to converse endlessly and remain by her side.
"Haha, okay, time to stop the teasing. Honey, leave this to me." In the end, Vanessa, his cherished mother, intervened to resolve it.
"Thanks, mom." Vritra exhaled deeply, then turned his attention to the anxious Teresa, who seemed convinced she'd stirred up issues.
Vanessa and Yasmine drew Yennefer aside to lay out the full story.
Teresa approached Vritra hesitantly and whispered: "Husb- did I do something wrong?"
In contrast to Yennefer's bold nature, she came across as fragile and gentle; Vritra denied it with a head shake and a comforting pat.
"No, none of this falls on us—it's merely fate and situations toying with everyone. Relax, Tess, Yenni's truly compassionate and warmhearted." He assured her.
Teresa agreed with a nod; being the latest addition to the household, even amid the kindness from all, required her some moments to settle in.
Diana stepped nearer to her, given the multiple barriers shielding Teresa that prevented any unintended contact.
The goddess then eased her worries, tending to her like a little sibling.
Vritra eyed Fiona before heading her way. Silently, he delivered a smack to her rear, prompting a startled yelp from her.
"Ouch." She massaged her backside, followed by laughter as she embraced Vritra.
"Hehe, apologies, are you mad at me? I merely poked fun at you before, ahh~" she murmured playfully.
Yet Vritra gripped her tender spot, his digits pressing into the plush, heated tissue.
"You've gone too far now—brace for my payback." Vritra warned, naturally without any real anger toward her.
These were mere lighthearted exchanges between spouses, though his intent for retribution remained firm.
Minutes later, Yasmine came back, as Vanessa continued her discussion with Yennefer.
"Hubby, why not head back to our place initially? Handling family matters in public like this isn't ideal." The dragoness suggested.
Vritra agreed with a nod, then faced Shitless and Onest off in the distance.
"Could you manage affairs here? I'll station Hellmancer for backup."
"Sure, you poor soul…" Shitless replied, offering a supportive glance.
"Yeah, no problem. Hardly anything remains to handle regardless." Onest added.
"Okay, time to leave-" Vritra addressed his wives but halted, his eyes shifting to the platform.
Shen, Tiny, along with her impending spouse Jean, lingered there, as Sir Giant lay passed out.
In a flash, he vanished and reappeared next to Jean, leaving the man stunned.
"S-Spare me please SOB" he pleaded right away, his visage streaked with tears and mucus.
Vritra's intimidating presence proved overwhelming, leading him to soil himself shortly after, a puddle of stench spreading beneath.
Vritra retreated, surprised by the over-the-top response.
"Well, I only dropped by to offer congratulations to you both—haha, you pair seem perfect. Jean, huh? Pfft, excellent pick." He taunted before vanishing once more.
Jean collapsed in a heap, trembling and stunned by the remark. Glancing at Tiny nearby, his face twisted unpleasantly; marriage to her held no appeal for him.
"Let's go." Vritra materialized again and announced to his wives.
Thus, the octet made their way homeward. He observed Vanessa and Yennefer chatting, yearning for her comprehension without resentment.
Yet excuses eluded him, given his grasp of her ire's origins.
Upon exiting the Ford realm, they soared upward.
Just as Vritra prepared to activate a gateway to their residence, he stopped and peered at the frosty landscape below.
Shock widened his eyes at the bizarre scene unfolding.
Weird bugs, creatures, and trees dotted the snow everywhere, appearing distinctly altered.
"What's happening?" His wives halted too, mirroring his surprise.
Yennefer gazed downward, pondering the extent of alterations since her absence.
The world below scarcely resembled the one she once inhabited.
Spotting shapes aloft, flocks of altered birds charged at them.
Ground dwellers joined the assault as well.
A mere mental command caused their skulls to burst, sending the odd remains tumbling earthward.
"Hubby, this… appears linked to those spores, with such transformations occurring across the board." Yasmine noted while surveying the area.
Other beings swiftly consumed the fallen bodies, and their power noticeably grew in response.
An immense catastrophe loomed over the world.
"This bears no resemblance to the trials, so what's the cause? From whence do these spores originate?" Vritra concentrated, observing the minuscule particles' evolution.
Resembling vital entities, they twisted and hummed, latching onto whatever they encountered.
Common flora and fauna showed clear signs of influence.
And what of humankind and fellow species?
"We head home immediately." Vritra's face grew grave as he declared, relying on celestial insights for clarity.
Skipping the gateway, they sped through the air, scrutinizing the shifts.
The further they progressed, the grimmer their looks became; the perpetual snow had already strained lives greatly.
Now, doomsday itself appeared to have arrived.
