My Celestial Ascension Chapter 921 921: The Vampire Queen
Previously on My Celestial Ascension...
A short while afterward, the butler Sebastian stepped into the chamber and offered a deep, respectful bow to King Evander.
"Your Majesty, the Queen is back from the banquet… She's in her chambers right now, changing her attire," Butler Sebastian reported.
King Evander gave a nod and instructed, "Very well. Have her come here the moment she's done. Let her know we're hosting significant visitors today."
"As you wish, Your Majesty," Butler Sebastian acknowledged, then promptly exited the room.
"That was Sebastian, our loyal butler. He's been in service to our household for over a thousand years. Next to my wife, he's the one I trust above all else," King Evander shared with Yuan and the rest after Sebastian had left.
—
Within a lavish room of the castle, a lady was slipping out of her gown, her actions poised but oddly intentional.
Knock! Knock!
A sharp rapping echoed at the entrance, yet she kept at her task without so much as a look in that direction.
"Your Highness, His Majesty is dealing with some visitors at the moment. He asks that you join them once you're prepared," Sebastian's voice filtered through from outside.
"Inform him I'll arrive soon," she answered in a serene, even voice.
"Understood, Your Highness," Sebastian responded, his retreating steps growing fainter.
"What sort of visitors has my husband summoned? And why do I detect the aroma of humans… plus an angel too?" She halted, confusion etching her features.
"I need to witness this myself. What on earth transpired during my absence at the banquet…" she whispered to herself prior to completing her outfit.
With graceful strides, she traversed the corridor, her elegant gown whispering over the ground, concealing her feet entirely under its billowing layers.
Nearing the entrance, voices drifted out from inside, and the odd fragrance intensified.
'It's been more than a millennium since I last encountered a human… I'm curious what their blood tastes like after so long…' Her crimson eyes flickered briefly before she drew a calming breath and pushed the door open.
Her eyes locked onto Princess Nerith right away upon entering, surprise flashing across her expression.
"Princess Nerith, what an unexpected delight… I wasn't anticipating your sudden arrival," she remarked, entering with a genuine smile.
"Your Highness Carmilla, it's been some time since our paths crossed. How are you faring?" Nerith replied, smiling back.
"I've been doing splendidly. And yourself? Still locked in constant battle?" Carmilla—the Vampire Queen—countered with a gentle smile.
"Indeed, old habits die hard, don't they?" Nerith laughed lightly. "But I'm faring well."
Queen Carmilla's gaze shifted curiously to Yuan and his companions before returning to Nerith.
"Who might these charming visitors be? Care to introduce them?" she inquired, a enigmatic sparkle in her eyes that caught Yuan and the group's attention.
'This lady… So she's the Vampire Queen. She radiates true regal presence,' Anna Grace mused, studying Carmilla closely.
Nerith smiled and nodded, proceeding to present each of them to her.
"I must admit… Encountering humans in the Demonic Continent after ages is truly astonishing," Carmilla chuckled softly.
'These humans… They seem extraordinarily different. I sense an odd urge to avoid provoking them at all costs… How intriguing,' she pondered inwardly as she examined Yuan and the others, experiencing a novel sensation.
Not long after, Nerith detailed the full purpose of her journey to the Vampire Kingdom, leaving Queen Carmilla utterly stunned.
"Inconceivable… To imagine those wretched beings plotting an assault on us, all without our knowledge! This is utterly outrageous!" She pressed her hands to her mouth, shock evident.
Nerith affirmed with a nod, "Regrettably, this harsh reality confronts us. The Undead King advances on our frontier with over a million undead troops. Their aims are crystal clear, needing no elaboration."
"I've already conferred with His Majesty regarding our alliance, and soon the leaders of every noble house will gather to delve deeper into this," Nerith concluded with a deep breath.
The room hung in quiet tension for the following minutes.
Sweat beaded on Queen Carmilla's brow as the crisis's weight sank in. A shiver coursed through her at the thought of the massive undead army.
"This is dire… We have to rally every soldier to the border without delay," she declared, glancing worriedly at her husband. "Lest our existence hangs in the balance once they breach it."
"Rest easy, my Queen. The noble leaders will be here any moment. We'll hash out the details with them thoroughly," King Evander reassured, aiming to soothe her.
A bit later, Queen Carmilla addressed them once more. "I've arranged several rooms for your stay. Until the nobles show, perhaps you could relax a little?"
"No need for that. We're far from weary," Yuan answered offhandedly.
"I understand… Then how about I guide you through our city?" Carmilla proposed, smiling warmly.
"That sounds perfect. We'd be delighted to join," Rose agreed, returning the smile.
Carmilla rose from the couch and announced, "Very well, let's head out. I'll give you a tour of the city. Our ways here differ greatly from human customs, after all."
Moments passed, and they found themselves at the city's heart, drawing stares from every vampire nearby—some baffled, others astonished.
"Look! There's Her Highness! She's wandering the streets!"
A voice called out from the distance, directing all gazes toward Yuan and his group.
"You're right! It's her! But what's Her Highness doing with those strangers?!"
"Take a closer look! That's the Demon Kingdom's Princess!"
"No way?! That fierce, untamed figure is among us?! But for what reason??"
Those comments made Nerith clench her jaw in annoyance. She couldn't shake the doubt if she was truly so savage and perilous as rumored. Am I honestly that merciless?
It was tough for her to accept being seen as the antagonist.
Queen Carmilla caught her expression and softly advised, "Ignore what they say. They just swallow rumors whole. Let's savor the city's views and vibe instead."
"I don't pay heed to their chatter. If I did, their necks would be bare by now," Nerith shot back with a subtle grin.
