My Celestial Ascension Chapter 920 920: Eavesdropping

Previously on My Celestial Ascension...
King Evander and Princess Nerith endured crushing pressure and killing intent from Xi Meili, Fang Xiaoyan, and Long Yuyan after unwittingly comparing the women—Divine Beasts of Primordial Dragon, Phoenix, and Azure Dragon lineages—to lowly demi-humans, provoking their immense pride. Yuan intervened to calm the furious women, then explained the god-like nature of Divine Beasts, their immense power, long lifespans, and ability to assume human forms, leaving the vampire rulers stunned and wary. Relieved yet concerned by the border crisis involving humans, King Evander urgently summoned all vampire nobles to the castle for an emergency meeting, pondering the ominous implications of these events.

Yuan and his companions sipped tea while enjoying pastries. The Vampire King had commanded his servants to ready proper refreshments for them, since vampires followed a distinct diet unsuitable for other beings.

"I never imagined a day would arrive where I'd be drinking tea inside a vampire's fortress," Yuan remarked with a gentle smile, lifting the cup to his mouth.

"Nor did I… This feels truly odd, especially since I'm an angel," Selvariel chimed in, giving a nod.

"Oh, yeah. You angels view everyone from the Demonic Continent as foes. I nearly overlooked that," Yuan laughed lightly.

"That's correct," Selvariel offered a subtle smile and continued, "We regard demons, vampires, succubi, werewolves, undead, and ghouls as profane entities. Their presence itself stands as an affront to the world."

"At the very least, that's the belief the gods from the High Heavens instilled in us… and we embraced it deeply, letting resentment fester inside."

"Fueled by that resentment, we launched battles against these so-called profane forces on the gods' orders. They demanded we cleanse the wickedness from the Demonic Continent and restore harmony to the realm," Selvariel elaborated with a deep breath.

After these words, Yuan and the rest grew quiet, gazing at Selvariel with real sympathy.

Nerith clenched her jaw in irritation, her gaze sparking with rage for a moment as wrath against the gods boiled up inside her.

"Those so-called gods… they represent the real malice in this realm! Yet they paint us as the antagonists. We've never targeted the blameless, nor struck at humankind," Nerith declared, her hands balled into tight fists.

"Restore harmony to the realm? What nonsense. It reeks more of a pretext for conquering everything," she scoffed icily before downing her full cup of tea at once.

"I agree completely with you, Princess Nerith."

All at once, King Evander's voice echoed in the chamber as he stepped in wearing a slight grin.

"They're nothing but a pack of greedy idiots… fantasizing about dominating the world," he stated while settling onto the couch. "They crave the whole world bowing to them, attending them like servants, and obeying their whims like thralls."

"Since we—the inhabitants of the Demonic Continent—blocked their path, they aimed to wipe us out. To obliterate us entirely so their schemes could succeed and they could reign over the entire realm."

"They hunger for dominion over every living thing… to hold the world in their grasp. They aspire to ascend as genuine deities," King Evander asserted strongly, his fury evident on his face.

"So, you overheard our talk, Your Majesty?" Nerith inquired with an embarrassed look, feeling a bit uncomfortable at the intrusion.

"I just picked up the end of it, so don't worry. Anyway, our views on the gods align perfectly," King Evander responded with a light smile.

Next, he turned to Yuan and the group and questioned, "Did the tea suit your tastes? We lack much familiarity with human dishes, since we seldom consume such items."

"It was decent, but you shouldn't go to such lengths for us. You bear enough burdens already," Anna Grace replied with a warm grin.

"How could I avoid it? As guests of Emperor Rhex, you're under my hospitality too," King Evander answered with a mild laugh.

Then his gaze shifted to Nerith, his face growing solemn as he drew in a steady breath.

"The leaders of all noble families in my domain are en route here. In just a few hours, they'll reach the fortress. When they've assembled, we'll start planning tactics for the war ahead," he informed her, his voice weighty.

"Thank you for your hard work, Your Majesty. It makes sense to cover the main points with all involved," Nerith agreed, smiling contentedly.

"It's no trouble. We've been pushed into this corner—if we delay action, doom awaits us all when the Undead King's forces breach the boundary," King Evander uttered with a burdened exhale.

"So, what's your next stop? The Succubus Kingdom or the Werewolf Kingdom?" he probed, intrigued.

"The Succubus Kingdom. They prove far trickier to handle than those oversized mutts," Nerith answered with a quiet laugh.

"Hmph! Those oversized mutts mostly excel at breeding. Word is, Lucan's oldest boy is hunting for a mate right now," King Evander noted, chuckling in amusement.

He went on, "Yet with all the offspring he's fathered already, no she-wolf wishes to join as his consort. It's stirred up real headaches for Lucan—he struggles to even recall his own kids."

"Lord Lucan… He struck me as a compassionate sort. I didn't foresee his heir becoming such a lecherous sort," Nerith giggled, giving her head a small shake.

"There's no way he can watch over every child. He's fathered more than fifty boys and twenty-eight girls, and rumor has it his spouse is expecting once more—likely four or five more additions," King Evander disclosed with a hearty laugh, almost losing control.

"What?! Doesn't he ever pause? He's got far too many kids already, and they keep arriving… this is beyond absurd," Nerith exclaimed, disbelief shaking her head.

Yuan and the others looked utterly astonished upon hearing this. The shock left them speechless, frozen in place.

"What on earth is this I'm hearing? Over seventy offspring and he's still going… This defies all reason," Yuan whispered, his tone laced with incredulity.

"This is downright astonishing… How can anyone father that many? Wouldn't everything descend into total disorder? How do they handle so many?!" Angela gasped, hand over her mouth, eyes bulging.

"Lucan boasts over ten spouses, so producing that many kids comes easy to him. Plus, werewolves possess strong desires and often enter mating seasons," King Evander clarified.

"I get it… That explains the horde of children and why his firstborn ended up like that," Yuan acknowledged with a nod.

King Evander glanced at the ladies around Yuan, then met Yuan's eyes again, smirking as he commented, "You yourself appear to have a hearty interest in women."

"I'd guess that the majority of these ladies count as your spouses, right?" he inquired, staring straight at Yuan.

"Yes, that's right," Yuan confirmed with pride and added, "Except for Miss Zara and her daughter Lady Nyx, Selvariel, and Lady Long Yuyan, all the other women are my wives."

"That many? I didn't anticipate a youth like you gathering so many partners. You're a real charmer with the ladies, Yuan," King Evander guffawed, evidently taken aback.

"I wouldn't label myself a charmer. I don't toy with affections or cast aside others… These women hold my true affections," Yuan stated evenly.
