Capítulo 8331: Island master (1)
Du Wan Sha moved with incredible efficiency. Following their deliberations, he commenced his plan immediately. His first task was to assemble Gu Na and the various Island Lords who hailed from the West and Northwest Sea regions. These individuals had originally governed those waters but chose to flee back to the Blood Slaughter Sect rather than join the rebellion led by Bai Xin and his cohorts. Upon their return, they were battered and wounded, having witnessed the massacre of their own islands. Their loyalty to the Blood Slaughter Sect was beyond reproach.
Guna stood out as the most formidable among them. While the others had barely escaped the clutches of lesser Island Lords, Guna had survived a direct confrontation with Bai Xin himself, proving his immense strength. Nevertheless, the slaughter of his island remained a devastating psychological blow.
When Du Wan Sha approached them, he laid out his strategy: he intended to merge several islands within the West and Northwest Seas to create massive territories. These expanded islands would be under their command, bolstered by powerful Masters sent by the Sect for protection. However, these specific islands were to be positioned on the outermost edges of the two sea regions, serving as the primary defensive perimeter for the Sect's territory.
Upon hearing Du Wan Sha’s proposal, Guna and the others saw no reason to refuse. Du Wan Sha suggested that by merging the islands, the existing island curses might even gain potency. Furthermore, since they would be overseeing much larger domains than before, they readily accepted the offer.
With their consent secured, Du Wan Sha was pleased. He ordered them to begin preparations at once. While the physical merging of islands was straightforward, it required a formal ceremony—a sacrifice to the heavens. Only after this ritual was performed could the landmasses be united. Ha Jing was appointed to personally oversee these rites. Consequently, nearly 3,000 islands across the two sea regions were consolidated into 1,000 larger Islands.
Guna and his peers relocated to these new territories. Simultaneously, the Sect decided that islands similar to Blood Drop Island, which utilized three Island Lords, would be assigned to govern these newly formed lands. Since the Blood Slaughter Sect possessed many such qualified individuals, most of the thousand new islands were staffed with powerful, Island Lord-level experts in short order.
Beyond these merged territories, certain independent islands sat on the fringes of the two seas. Du Wan Sha followed Zhao Hai’s recommendation for these locations without hesitation. He handpicked several elite experts from the Refinement Realm within the Sect and granted them control over these islands. These individuals were the prime candidates for future promotion to Island Lords. By giving them management duties now, the Sect hoped that once they officially attained the rank of Island Lord, their current territories would eventually be integrated into the larger island network.
These cultivators were more than happy to comply, viewing the assignment as a massive windfall. Owning an island meant their personal territory would be twice the standard size, allowing them to maintain double the number of faithful slaves. It was an opportunity they embraced with joy.
However, one person among them received unique treatment: Zhao Hai. While other Refinement Realm cultivators were given management rights, the Sect also stationed True Disciples and various low-level disciples on their islands to establish a functional hierarchy. These True Disciples acted as Elders, maintaining a level of oversight. Although these managers could eventually merge their personal islands with these new ones, they currently only held administrative authority.
Zhao Hai’s situation was entirely different. The Sect refused to interfere with his island or station any personnel there. Instead, they provided him with a single faithful slave. Aside from that slave, there wasn't a single peripheral disciple present. Zhao Hai was granted total autonomy. If he required labor, he was responsible for recruiting from the Sect or hiring rogue cultivators himself. The Sect would still provide an annual allocation of medicinal pills and magical artifacts—similar to other islands—but they would not provide the manpower. He had to build his own force.
To an outsider, it looked as though the Sect was making life difficult for Zhao Hai. As a mere Legacy Disciple, how could he possibly recruit effectively? If he hired powerful warriors, he might not be able to suppress them; if he hired the weak, his island would have no strength. Furthermore, the burden of feeding and housing them fell entirely on him. With the limited resources provided by the Sect, sustaining a large group would be a struggle. It seemed like a setup for failure.
Yet, many others viewed Zhao Hai with intense envy. This was an island completely under his personal dominion—a private kingdom where his word was law. It was the ultimate dream of many True Disciples.
Naturally, this sparked widespread jealousy. However, the detractors were powerless to change the situation. They couldn't even complain about favoritism, as Zhao Hai’s reward was justified by his monumental contribution. His feat of stealing the Divine Knife was more than enough to earn him such a territory. The matter was settled; Zhao Hai had officially become the weakest Island Lord in the history of the Blood Sea Realm.
Meanwhile, Zhao Hai stood within the Temple of the House of Three Talents on Blood Drop Island. Lei Gang and two others sat across from him. Lei Gang grinned at Zhao Hai and teased, "Not bad, Little Hai. You’ve become an Island Lord now—the weakest one in history! Hahahaha, how does it feel?" Lei Gang was clearly in high spirits as he joked with his disciple.
Zhao Hai could only manage a wry smile. "Master, you’re teasing me. I truly didn't expect the Grand Elder to take such an action. It really caught me by surprise." In truth, Zhao Hai had suspected he might receive an island, but the level of total freedom granted by the Grand Elder was indeed unexpected.
Regardless, he kept his composure. He couldn't admit he had been maneuvering for an island from the start; that would appear far too calculating. Even if others suspected his motives, he would never confirm them.
Lei Gang waved a hand dismissively. "Regardless of your thoughts, the island is yours now, and the Sect has given you immense latitude. Make the most of it. Also, your Third Uncle Master has been reassigned to the West Ocean, quite close to your territory. Your new home is called Blood Gale Island. If you run into trouble, seek him out. In fact, we’ll be spending quite a bit of time at Blood Wind Island ourselves, so you can always find us there."
Zhao Hai acknowledged the instructions. Lei Gang then shifted the topic, his expression turning serious. "You’ve been looking into the cultivation techniques of the Spiritual Array Sect. Tell me, how far have you progressed with their methods?" Lei Gang was aware of Zhao Hai’s interest in their arrays and his study of metal puppets. Knowing Zhao Hai’s talent, he wasn't worried, merely curious.
Zhao Hai replied softly, "The techniques of the Spiritual Array Sect aren't overly complex. I’ve already grasped the fundamentals. Combined with my previous knowledge of arrays, I’ve made significant progress. Please don't worry, Master." Zhao Hai had actually mastered the techniques and even integrated them into his own Cultivation path, but he kept that detail to himself to avoid sounding too boastful.
Lei Gang nodded. "The defensive formation on Blood Wind Island is currently non-functional. You should be aware of that. When you have the time, see if you can restore it." Since Lei Gang and his associates planned to treat Blood Wind Island as a secondary base, ensuring its defenses were operational was a priority.
"Understood," Zhao Hai replied. "I'll head over to Blood Gale Island to inspect the grounds soon. If everything is in order, I’ll begin restoring the defensive array immediately." For someone with Zhao Hai’s skills, such a task was trivial.
Lei Gang nodded again and asked, "You’ve been analyzing those metal puppets for some time. Have you made any breakthroughs? Your trick of transforming that massive Copper Palace into a great sword was impressive. You still have that sword, right? Tell me, can such a thing be utilized as a metal puppet?"
Zhao Hai shook his head. "No, Master. Metal puppets and that Copper Palace are fundamentally different. Standard metal puppets only require engraved arrays and energy lines to function as combat units. Something like the Copper Palace is more like a different form of life. To achieve that level of movement, thousands of arrays must be etched inside and linked by energy lines. Most importantly, it requires souls. Every array must be infused with souls, which are then bonded to the energy lines to provide the necessary power for movement. During our last encounter, I harvested a vast number of souls from the Spiritual Array Sect and the Sea Union, which I funneled into the Copper Palace to achieve that effect. I am attempting to create something similar now. As for standard metal puppets, I can produce them, but their power will be limited. Master, I actually have a question for you."
Lei Gang looked at him intently. "What is it? Speak freely." He understood Zhao Hai’s explanation; while replicating the Copper Palace was a tall order, even basic metal puppets would be a valuable asset. He waited to hear what Zhao Hai needed.
Zhao Hai asked, "Master, I wanted to inquire about equipment. The Sect has its own Weapon Refinery Hall, as do the individual islands. These halls don't always have a perfect success rate. I want to know what happens to the failed, destroyed weapons. And what do you do with magical artifacts that are broken or rendered useless during combat?"
Lei Gang was momentarily stunned by the question. He looked at Zhao Hai with a confused expression. "Why do you ask? Those items are worthless junk once they're broken. We just throw them away, of course."
