Everyone Is A Lord: My Talent Is A Little Too Strong Chapter 2648: 1457: The Depths of the Black Fog (Part 2)

Previously on Everyone Is A Lord: My Talent Is A Little Too Strong...
Leo Ray led a group of powerful allies swiftly through the dense Black Fog of the Land of Howling, navigating increasingly hellish landscapes of ruins, grave markers, abandoned fields, bare forests, and putrid blood-red rivers that evoked Purgatory. Even seasoned visitors like Loris and Sina furrowed their brows at the unfamiliar depths, where Skeleton Fortresses grew denser, their undead guardians watching with eerie smirks from the walls. The group's internal energy slowed amid the miasma, heightening the risk of encirclement by the vast Undead Army, yet Leo Ray affirmed their plan to strike the witch demons' command center before the foes could mobilize. As they pressed on, an immense forest-white Giant City emerged, its scale rivaling divine lands and belching endless Black Fog from its core, encircled by a crimson protective river—the likely heart of the enemy stronghold.

As Loris spoke, Leo Ray scanned the surroundings. True enough, around the Forest White Giant City lay countless ruins and toppled buildings. From their immense size, it was clear a once-thriving civilization had flourished in this place.

These crumbling, low-lying remains stood in stark opposition to the massive Forest White Giant City, as though quietly recounting a brutal past.

In the end, Leo Ray's eyes settled on the sturdy walls of the Forest White Giant City.

Right then, the walls teemed with witch demons and elite undead warriors, their empty sockets glowing with a sinister red hue, marking them apart from the typical low-level undead forces.

Sheltered by the Absolute Defense Barrier, they exuded fearless superiority, looking down on our approaching group with disdain and lethal hostility in their gazes.

Meanwhile, our ten thousand-strong force seemed tiny against the imposing Forest White Giant City, akin to ants challenging a colossal tree.

“Prepare to siege.”

Feeling the press of time, Leo Ray gestured, and lines of Magic Cannons materialized at the forefront of our ranks.

Leo Ray had picked these Magic Cannons for their superior reach, planning to strike from outside the enemy's firing distance. Depending only on our scarce numbers, even piercing the foe's city under the Absolute Defense Barrier would drain our magic users' reserves, harming our chances in the upcoming fight.

With every powerhouse here being top-tier experts, in mere moments, ten thousand Magic Cannons stood ready, their shadowy muzzles trained on the hostile walls.

“Attack!”

At Leo Ray's order, the magical glow from our setup below the Forest White City walls flared brighter, and solid magic projectiles hurtled skyward like shooting stars toward the enemy defenses.

Upon hitting the rival's barrier, the vibrant magic shots resembled stars plunging into the ocean, instantly triggering surges of turbulent energy ripples.

Since our range outstripped theirs, the enemies held back from rash counterattacks, simply watching quietly from their ramparts.

Following the initial Magic Cannon volley, the next one fired right away, then the third and fourth, unleashing a relentless thunderous boom while energy blasts whipped up gales, hurling dirt and debris in all directions.

Leo Ray observed the smooth, rotating barrages from our magic experts with approval.

Even though these were all Tier 3 or higher Magic Cannons, including plenty of Tier 4 and Tier 5 ones that surpassed the Demon Energy Luminous Crystal's capacity, the operators—all Tier 5 and above—infused them with far greater speed than regular troops could manage.

Leo Ray spotted how the Fairy Clan leaders, Fanny, Crisis, and Old Susan, effortlessly charged several Magic Cannons at once, even after the intense clash from the previous night.

Thanks to Leo Ray's stock of advanced magic potions, everyone's mana had largely replenished, allowing them to unleash attacks without much strain.

Meanwhile, the melee specialists weren't standing by. Boosted by spells that extended their throw, crossbows, javelins, and boulders poured forth like a storm, carving sharp trails through the air.

For an instant, the barrage of Magic Cannon blasts and physical projectiles dominated the scene, parting the thick black mist, and while the enemy's Absolute Defense Barrier remained intact, its odd sheen faded noticeably, showing the foes were bearing heavy strain.

“Your Majesty of the Humans, if we keep this up, shattering the opponent’s Absolute Defense Barrier is only a question of time!”

Sina's ashen features lit with thrill as she nodded toward Leo Ray.

Her recently gained sixth-order gear had been taken by Belinda earlier but given back since, and she itched to test it, even with wounds from last night's surprise attack still lingering.

“Indeed, once we shatter this Absolute Defense Barrier, I'll lead the rush up the walls!”

Loris's leonine visage betrayed eagerness too, gripping a gleaming sixth-order massive axe.

Hearing their enthusiastic declarations, Leo Ray merely grinned back, saying nothing.

In this scenario, the enemies endured the assault without response, which clashed with the sly essence of witch demons.

It was obvious they were plotting something devious.

“As the scouts reported, just as I foresaw, undead troops from other Skeleton Fortresses are converging here, aiming to trap us.”

“Yet even the closest Skeleton Fortress force would need about an hour to reach, and with their scant numbers, clashing with us solo would spell doom, so they'll hold for aid from further Skeleton Fortresses, dragging out the wait.”

“Regarding the secret supporter, they won't show until the witch demon faces true peril.”

“Thus, beyond the trap and the ally, the foes must have additional ways to fight back; else, the witch demons atop the walls wouldn't stay so calm.”

Leo Ray absently stroked his chin, mulling over the thoughts.

The real puzzle was, what extra ploys would they employ?

After all, our troops were the cream of the crop, and despite the black fog's enhancement, the opponents wouldn't foolishly clash directly.

As these ideas crossed Leo Ray's mind, his eyes naturally drifted rearward.

Still, from the forward Forest White Giant City through the humble ruins nearby to the heavy black fog overhead, nothing struck him as off.

“Am I worrying too much?”

Right when Leo Ray questioned if his caution was excessive and he was overrating the threat, the hesitant tones of Xiao Jing and Little Jie rang out together by his ears: “My Lord, I suddenly sensed a hint of a kindred presence!”

“Are you saying there are other unfamiliar Stones of God around us?”

Leo Ray paused briefly, then caught on swiftly.

Was it possible the enemies had a Stone Spirit too, and that Stone Spirit held the secret to their covert plan?

But Little Jie's follow-up words dismissed Leo Ray's guess: “My Lord, it is indeed a Stone of God, but the opponent is extremely weak, no stronger than the previously sleeping Stone of God.”

“Extremely weak? That almost rules out any threat.”

Upon hearing this, Leo Ray nodded pensively.

If so, the chance of the enemies deploying a Stone of God was basically nil; witch demons' crafty ways wouldn't lead to a direct brawl.

With that realization, a hint of bewilderment reappeared on Leo Ray's face.

This was, after all, deep in the Land of Howling; why would such a feeble Stone of God emerge here?

Just as Leo Ray grappled with the mystery, Xiao Jing's next remark deepened the enigma.

“My Lord, strangely, I sensed no unfamiliar kin earlier; that presence appeared as if it suddenly popped up.”

After Xiao Jing finished, Little Jie nodded right away in confirmation, her experience matching exactly.

“Not only a very weak Stone of God, but it also suddenly appeared?”

Amid his confusion, Leo Ray pressed further: “Where is that presence now?”

“My Lord, it is right beneath us.”

Xiao Jing and Little Jie answered together, both gesturing downward at the earth.

“What?!”

At those words, Leo Ray's face grew taut in an instant.
