Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1562: Hail of Blades (Part 1)
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Even while battling two foes by himself, Vaarh demonstrated he was far more than a match for them. Adam and Alexia failed to overpower him in any way.
Even better, his ultimate strike sent both of them flying backward.
He wasn't merely holding his ground against them solo—he was dominating the fight. His reactions, velocity, and impact force operated at a superior tier.
Maybe if Alexia had unleashed her ice power and turned nearly untouchable once more for a brief period, she might have cornered Vaarh. However, she lacked the stamina for it at that point.
Thus, they were forced to keep clashing with Vaarh until someone's endurance gave out or they attempted a fresh tactic.
"What? Do you have an idea?" Adam questioned, puzzled.
Silvana served as his key partner, yet in combat situations, Adam typically called the shots. He engaged directly, sensed the chaos of the field, and drew from vast battle knowledge.
Should Silvana possess a strategy, it must be extraordinary, something beyond Adam's current awareness.
"Yes, it involves your recent power. I understand a bit more than you. So... pay close attention to me. Our success or failure hinges on this.'
Of course, Adam recalled needing to locate one of the Third Grand Star's requirements in this place, but that couldn't occupy his mind right now. His main focus remained Vaarh—or more precisely, bringing him down.
Vaarh and Alexia remained unaware of the exchange between Adam and Silvana, yet shortly after, Alexia caught Louis’s words.
"Hey, Adam, we need you to freeze Vaarh. It'll be enough to halt him for half a second. We can try to freeze his feet to the ground. That should work."
"Hmm?" Alexia lifted an eyebrow in annoyance. "I don’t have enough energy for any of my abilities to be powerful enough for that. He should have thought of that earlier!"
Louis shook his head.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Agh?"
"Maybe you don’t have enough star energy right now, but you have the ancient one."
Alexia’s eyes widened.
"Huh... Do you realize how little of that energy I have?"
Louis shrugged.
"You have enough for one attack, don’t you?"
Alexia grinned broadly as inspiration struck her.
"Of course. I’ll do it!"
From the side, Vaarh observed the scene. He refrained from striking not just because defense suited him better and proved more efficient, but also to recover as much stamina as he could.
Although he managed to fend off both alone, his reserves were draining at a rapid pace.
"I have to endure just a bit more. Monsters..." He scanned the area. "They failed to fulfill the part I envisioned, but I can't rely on them further. One more minute, and triumph will be mine."
His gaze sharpened, turning profoundly intense for an instant.
’Soon, I’ll recall the method. I sense it coming. Nothing beats battling mighty foes to relearn a skill or savor the thrill of combat once more!’
Step.
Alexia advanced, capturing Vaarh’s focus. She activated no powers, just her Nexus.
Meanwhile, Adam shut his eyes oddly and dropped his blades to the earth. He pulled entirely out of the skirmish.
Vaarh had no clue what Adam was up to, but instinct told him it spelled trouble.
He needed to halt Adam.
’Now!’
Whooooosh.
Vaarh charged ahead, yet a threatening silhouette loomed instantly in his path.
"Where are you going, bastard?" Alexia glared down at him with superiority before slamming her fist toward him.
No reaction came as Vaarh parried her blow using his palm.
But Alexia anticipated this, twisting swiftly as her boot shot at Vaarh like a lance.
Whooooosh.
Vaarh shifted his head aside while Alexia’s metal boot sliced by his face. Its keen rim sliced his cheek, yet no feeling showed on his expression.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
A barrage of swift hits poured onto Vaarh, though he evaded or countered every single one.
Alexia struck with purpose, not wildly. She targeted Vaarh’s vulnerable spots, and before long, she chose to gamble. The buildup had led to this instant.
Her palm extended toward his torso.
Vaarh bent backward, anticipating that as Alexia’s aim, but he quickly saw it wasn't true.
Clutch.
She seized Vaarh’s spear firmly with one grip while her other fist descended from overhead.
Eyes free of alarm, Vaarh halted her punch, clamping it with full force, mirroring her hold on his weapon.
"What are you doing?" Vaarh scowled, bearing down on Alexia. "You do realize you’ll never get my weapon? You’re not strong enough for that!"
With his bellow, Vaarh pushed in, making Alexia’s legs quiver as he towered above her.
He spoke truly—Alexia couldn't outmatch Vaarh in raw might alone. She hated conceding it, since brute force had long been her boast, but for the scheme's sake, she'd accept it.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
Alexia’s legs quivered.
A touch further, and her boots would embed in the soil. The frost below had fractured already. Her bid to wrench the spear from Vaarh seemed a total flop, or... perhaps not?
"Hah, you’re actually just as arrogant a bastard as we are, aren’t you?" Alexia scoffed, ignoring the growing strain. "It’s not dragon pride anymore, but something much higher."
Vaarh narrowed his eyes.
"Even if that’s true, so what? Sometimes you just have to be arrogant enough to survive and win."
Alexia grinned widely.
"Yeah, I totally agree. That’s exactly why you’re going to lose, asshole!"
In a fleeting moment, violet streams materialized before Alexia as she inhaled deeply.
Vaarh’s form twitched in readiness to evade, but the opportunity had passed.
Her icy exhale, infused with ancient power, encased his feet in frost to the earth.
Yet for Vaarh, that paled compared to the worse development, as Adam's eyes snapped open and ethereal blades whirled about him.
They stood poised to terminate the dragon's extended existence right there.
