Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1539 1539: Carnage and Ice
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Following the Stone Demon's opening assault, Adam and Alexia steeled themselves for a grueling and agonizing clash.
They grasped that this creature was swift and mighty, likely boasting strong defenses too.
Yet... Reality often proved utterly unexpected.
As the Stone Demon opted to evade Alexia's ice axe, Adam suddenly understood the truth.
"Come on, you took out a Phantom like me in one hit, you're always smirking, you're ridiculously arrogant. It's like staring into a mirror."
Adam's eyes quivered while he stared at the ice axe positioned right before the Stone Demon.
'And you chose to just evade? You picked something so dull over halting her axe and smashing it with your fists? That's how I'd act, since between us, only one's the true cocky jerk!'
Paradoxically, the Stone Demon's missing arrogance brought them to this very moment.
Adam comprehended that nothing here was genuine; the entity facing them wasn't a fearsome beast but a mere clown.
Slash!
As Adam lashed out with his needle, the Stone Demon lacked even a second to respond or shield itself, clarifying everything for Adam when his eyes fixed on the creature's horns.
'So quick that I missed your strike? Ha, total rubbish. What if those horns slowed me down!'
Crack. Crack. Crack.
With every bit of power, like a savage animal, Adam seized the Stone Demon's horns and ripped them straight from its skull.
The display was gruesome and vicious, with chunks of meat and nerve strands dragging after the horns, delivering intense suffering to the beast.
GGGGRRRRRHHHHHHOOOOOO!!!
Overwhelmed by torment, the Stone Demon bellowed while its arm stretched toward Adam to hurl him from its crown.
Alexia's eyes tightened in shock, unable to accept the view. It wasn't Adam moving sluggishly, but the Stone Demon itself.
Slash. Slash. Slash.
Adam brandished his needle in a storm of slices, chopping the Stone Demon's fingers into bits.
Crimson sprayed everywhere as he slammed his hand onto the Stone Demon's gore-drenched cranium.
"Very well, time to wrap this up." Adam's apparently steady tone sparked raw dread in the Stone Demon, though it came far too late.
Tremble.
A surge of power flowed along Adam's limb as he tapped into the primordial force, using only a tiny amount.
Sufficient it was.
BLAST!
The Stone Demon's skull burst outward, hurling meat fragments in all directions.
Alexia froze in place nearby, her face locked in surprise for an instant before twisting into a pleased grin.
She figured out the deal here as well.
"So it all came down to his horns? Ha, the massive, terrifying beast ended up as a pitiful faker and trickster!"
Tap.
The Stone Demon toppled to the floor, with Adam balanced on its corpse, scanning the surroundings.
The rest of the Stone Demons stirred from their rest too. Their gazes flared with vivid red, yet without the original one's boldness.
They knew their strategies stood revealed, leaving it foggy who played predator and who fell as quarry.
"Come on!" Adam shouted, flinging his arms out. "Rush us together! You lot and us must battle until no blood remains!"
His words rang true, and the Stone Demons got it.
All at once, over a dozen demons extended their wings broadly and, as enormous shades, charged at Adam and Alexia.
...
Tap.
Adam tossed yet another horn away while facing Alexia, who lingered amid multiple shredded remains.
Limbs and crimson soaked the formerly icy terrain; every Stone Demon lay dead.
After Adam and Alexia uncovered the horns as the fatal flaw, the tough fight morphed into a slaughter, rendering Adam and Alexia invincible.
Lacking horns and the trickery that twisted Adam and Alexia's sense of time and velocity, the Stone Demons couldn't stand against them.
Still, even after their total triumph in the second test, Adam and Alexia confronted one lingering issue:
"And? What's our next step?" Adam cocked his head, eyeing the corridor.
Every corridor stayed sealed. No escape from this spot, and no words came from the Ancient Voice.
"ADAM!"
Alexia shouted, making Adam glance skyward.
His eyes bulged as he vaulted swiftly aside.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
Smashing through stone strata and wrecking the glass dome's frame, a fresh Stone Demon dropped in, unlike any before.
It loomed larger and higher, bearing red hide over shadowy tones, with a single vigorous horn atop its head. Scarlet bands encircled that solitary horn, as if marking it the key focus.
"Hah." Adam shifted away, eyeing the Red Demon's grin. He spotted the contrast to the others immediately. "That horn's no fake. No matter what this fiend tries, it'll prove deadly!"
Crack.
The Red Demon bashed its fists, signaling its eagerness to take on both foes.
Adam geared up to dive in, yet something held him back.
A frosty shiver crawled down his back, triggering a quake, not sparked by the Red Demon's presence, but from elsewhere.
"Arh?"
Adam whirled to find Alexia edging ahead gradually.
She'd ditched her bulky gloves and shoes, and the pale fog no longer danced about her.
What stayed was a thick glacial power that chilled even her, coating her limbs in a slim frost shell, as azure icy fires streamed from her frame.
"Adam, I've got a favor to ask."
Her gaze blazed while her energy shifted into a feral creature's shape. Against Alexia's poised and frosty look, the beast thrashed in fury, itching to dump all its fury on the opponent.
"Let me take this one."
