Dimension of Time.
Max wrapped up his sessions with the inheritance techniques at last, his breaths coming in steady rhythms while perspiration drenched his form completely. Despite possessing a Rebirth Realm body, the toll from his intense efforts remained impossible to ignore. He had accomplished precisely what he intended.
Into the Inheritance Chambers of the Flame, Ice, and Sword dimensions he had ventured one after another, choosing the most advanced inheritance techniques available to him at present and embedding them profoundly into his comprehension.
The ensuing days were devoted wholly to the Dimension of Time. Mere days elapsed in the outer world, yet inside that eternal realm, thousands of years unfolded through endless repetition and honing.
Each motion got polished to perfection, errors were ironed out, and subtle details became second nature. He drove himself without mercy, refusing any slack, fully aware that the Thirty Six Hall Grand Trial would show no mercy to frailty.
A complete week had now ticked by outside, marking the arrival of the trial's day.
"Four Divine Beasts Manifestation proves much tougher to grasp than Ice God Hand and Thousand Divine Swords," Max murmured while clearing the sweat from his forehead, his mind replaying his advancements.
Of the three inheritance techniques he acquired, the flame one exacted the greatest demands. It went beyond mere strength, requiring precise command, equilibrium, and harmony with several divine forms simultaneously. By contrast, Ice God Hand and Thousand Divine Swords came across as more direct, savage in their approach, but simpler to dominate.
Four Divine Beasts Manifestation, Ice God Hand, and Thousand Divine Swords had all been solidly ingrained in his core now, though one lingered in partial resistance to full command.
"Anyway, it's time to proceed to the central hub of the Thirty Third Hall," Max whispered as he adjusted his stance upright.
With that decision, he departed the Dimension of Time and stepped out of his quarters.
Upon emerging, activity buzzed all around him. Disciples hurried along the hallways, converging on the shared goal. Confidence shone on some faces, tension gripped others in quietude, and a handful vibrated with hardly hidden thrill.
Max merged seamlessly into the crowd, avoiding notice as he advanced with them toward the hall's core.
Soon enough, he reached the central hub of the Thirty Third Hall.
The scene unfolding was staggering. The expansive plaza brimmed with disciples from varied ages and origins, saturating the space with chatter, discussions, and buzzing impatience.
Max figured thousands had gathered, perhaps even beyond that. In the Divine Realm, such crowds were commonplace, particularly for a monumental occasion like the Thirty Six Hall Grand Trial.
"Max, you're here too."
The voice he recognized prompted him to swivel. Carl and Laura neared from one side. They weren't by themselves. Accompanying them were three more figures, each exuding a poised, assured presence that stood out sharply among outer disciples.
Max's gaze rested on them for a moment, assessing their power levels as the hub's air thickened with mounting eagerness. 'Peak of Rebirth Realm...each one.'
"Carl and Laura, it's great to have you both here," Max responded warmly in greeting, his eyes drifting smoothly to the trio beside them.
Laura advanced and indicated the others with a steady demeanor. "These three are Simon, ranked sixth; Drisco, ranked seventh; and Flora, who claims the tenth spot among the Thirty Third Hall's outer disciples."
"Delighted to make your acquaintances," Max declared with an open, radiant grin.
Simon and Drisco offered him quick looks followed by curt nods, their faces serene yet guarded. Flora, however, regarded Max with open intrigue, her stare probing beyond his outward calm as if seeking hidden depths, remaining silent all the while.
Max shifted his focus back to Carl and Laura, a contemplative expression passing over him. "With rankings that elevated, you two must sit near the summit too, correct?"
Carl offered a subtle smile in reply, his voice casual yet assured. "I hold the fourth rank among the Thirty Third Hall's outer disciples, while Laura occupies fifth."
"Fourth and fifth in the outer disciple standings," Max echoed approvingly with a nod. "That's remarkable. You both must possess considerable might."
As he spoke, another query bubbled up in his thoughts, and he voiced it promptly. "And the leading three?"
"They'll be here shortly," Laura answered, her mouth forming a smile lacking true cordiality. "The assembly is just getting underway."
"Why the look you're giving me?" Max inquired with a twisted grin, picking up on the undercurrent in their demeanors.
Laura's grin expanded, a subtle spark of mirth flickering in her gaze as she responded, "Events are bound to turn captivating once the top three make their entrance."
Carl dipped his head in concurrence, his features blending a touch of pity with subdued expectation.
"Am I overlooking something?" Max probed, eyeing them both as his interest intensified.
Carl released a light laugh before clarifying with patience. "At this point, the entire Thirty Third Hall is aware that you're Elder Virelia's direct disciple. The top three outer disciples here have labored for years to gain an elder's tutelage, targeting Elder Virelia above all due to her superior instruction methods in the hall."
He halted for a beat before pressing on, his voice adopting a more solemn edge. "Then you emerged suddenly and secured her as your master in no time. Consider that: what reaction do you expect when Elder Virelia's handpicked disciple encounters the three who've pursued that honor for so long?"
