Apocalypse Gachapon Chapter 1902: Silk Sea Light Array
Previously on Apocalypse Gachapon...
Jie Su along with his two companions positioned themselves at the edges of the energy array, adjusting their spots based on the unfolding events.
Just a single individual was attempting to shatter the formation.
Yet this foe possessed immense strength, to the point where the energy array had reached fifty percent output, but he remained unscathed within it. In contrast, one of the companions suffered a minor wound from an unsuccessful strike against him.
"Fifty-five percent."
With those words from Jie Su, the whole energy array lit up all at once.
This glow signaled a surge in power. Beams of light released dispersed rays, saturating the entire setup.
The intruder pushing to disrupt the formation advanced a step. A close beam abruptly burst apart, transforming the dispersed rays into myriads of razor edges, nearly crowding the whole area.
However, he stayed composed. His footwear began to glow as well, functioning like an anti-missile shield, colliding repeatedly with the encircling light. Just a handful pierced the barrier and struck him, only to get repelled by his protective gear.
"Silk Sea Light Array, among the Su Clan's top ten formations. Jie Su, the efforts your clan invested in your training are impressive. They've even passed on this secret weapon to you."
This figure, enduring the relentless assaults from the array nonstop, addressed Jie Su with a voice dripping in sarcasm.
"I'm just curious, given your abilities, how much of the Silk Sea Light Array's might you can actually bring forth. Rumors say your Su Clan's head and a few master formation experts can wield this to rival the force of a thousand troops and endless cavalry. Are you capable of that?"
"Ah, what's this move named? Pillar Sweeping Obstacle, isn't it? Too bad, it falls a tad short in intensity."
"This won't cut it. The true essence of the Silk Sea Light Array is pushing the slicing prowess of light and shadow to its peak. But yours lacks both in volume and potency. It's not an issue of innate skill;
it's simply that you haven't grasped the technique fully."
"The ally you're expecting won't show up. Drop this energy array right now, and you might still flee."
Ever since entering the Silk Sea Light Array, this man kept talking without pause. His pace wasn't swift, but every move forward was steady, inching closer to the array's center. Reaching it would let him dismantle the energy array effortlessly with a single blow.
Jie Su himself, as the formation's overseer, along with the other two, would suffer grave harm from the backlash, bringing the clash to a swift close.
Still, this formidable adversary concealed his features behind a mask and complete body plating, leaving his origins a mystery.
"Sixty percent."
The Silk Sea Light Array ramped up its power once more, boosting its overall force. The man's forward momentum faced some resistance, though he pressed on. He was now mere moments from the formation's core.
"Why not crank it straight to one hundred percent? Test if you can take me down within it. Doubtful, since even at sixty percent, your attacks can't breach my guard. At full throttle, I'd manage. Besides, I seriously question if you can handle controlling such a massive array!"
"Judging by the timing, your close companion is probably already gone. Now, it's your turn to follow."
The man let out a chuckle. Though his expression stayed hidden, his tone brimmed with malice.
Yet right then, Jie Su nodded as if in full accord.
This caught the man off guard, leaving him momentarily frozen.
"Don't get the wrong idea;
I'm not twisted enough to believe my end is deserved. What I'm getting at is, yeah, the moment has arrived."
A faint smile crossed Jie Su's face as he lifted his hand and declared, "Thirty-five percent."
Hearing that, a chill gripped the man; he halted and demanded warily, "What are you getting at?"
Jie Su kept his demeanor polite and explained steadily, "Earlier announcements were at double the actual power output. This one's the genuine measure."
"Naturally, you could view it as seventy percent at present."
As the array's intensity rose, the pressure on the man grew more intense. The rampaging light edges within the formation forced him into nonstop blocks.
"Fifty percent!"
Jie Su jumped straight from thirty-five to fifty percent. By the old scale, that equaled full capacity.
The man's composure shattered in an instant. Four luminous beams materialized overhead, tumbling toward him and slamming down repeatedly. Once fended off, they rebounded skyward, circling for another descent.
The ground's light edges had vanished, supplanted by sporadic light arcs bursting from those upright beams. These arcs spanned over ten or even several dozen meters, carving into the foe's frame.
Such devastating light arcs struck every one to two seconds.
Confronted by this ceaseless barrage from above and below, the man lost all control. His earlier poise had evaporated; he struggled just to endure.
Injuries on his form shifted from sparse scratches to a web of cuts.
He grasped that he'd been tricked, but trapped in the array, escape wasn't an option at will. Abandoning his guard to bolt would likely leave him diced into hundreds of fragments before five seconds passed.
"Why! Why!"
Though not yet slain, under this torrent of strikes, he understood his endurance wouldn't last; death loomed inevitable here.
Jie Su responded evenly, "You're aware I'm holding out for White Robe. Not just you, but plenty others must realize it too. Some opted to block that lunatic, while others aimed to take me out."
"Had I unleashed everything from the beginning and slain you outright in the array, I might've spooked the watchers away. They'd rush to White Robe's position instead. That would pile more strain on my ally. When he gets back, he'd lash out at me. You lot avoid clashing with a berserker, and so do I."
By now, the man's expression had turned ashen.
"Thus, I had to stage a performance of giving it my all, on the verge of total commitment, yet still struggling against you. This kept the observers hooked, witnessing our desperate struggle. In the end, as things wind down, they'd step in to mop up, finishing off both of us. Such an easy way to rack up merits."
"I can tell what's running through your mind. Why the sudden full force now, huh? Simple... like you mentioned, the time's right. Once you're down, the rest won't get many shots at breaching anymore."
"Well, that's not quite precise. Truth is, I no longer fear them charging the formation, even in a group! Because... White Robe is here."
At that instant, the man ignored Jie Su's words entirely. In his final throes, he bellowed, "Do you realize who I stand for? I am..."
A colossal light arc tore across the array, cleaving the man in half and cutting off his outburst.
"No matter who, what does it matter? I couldn't care less." A subtle curve touched Jie Su's mouth. His eyes glanced at the bisected remains before shifting to the edge where thick woods met the slope afar.
From that spot emerged a figure clad in ragged white battle gear, stepping forward first.
