Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys Chapter 1557 - 536: Duel (Part 3)

Previously on Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys...
Crown Reginald confidently introduced Lord Rein to the assembled nobles, sparking a wager with the skeptical Crown Perkins over the impending duel. As Rein took his stance in the arena, the Imperial Guardian Pantoscoke descended from the sky atop his newly advanced elder dragon Hazas, eliciting shock and murmurs from the crowd at the beast's immense size. Unfazed, Rein revealed his own mechanical counterpart—a colossal goblin-engineered Mechanical Demon Dragon—prompting Pantoscoke to dismiss it with a laugh before soaring into the air with Hazas for the confrontation.

Even though Pantoscoke lacked deep knowledge in mechanical inventions, a quick look revealed to him that Rein’s Mechanical Demon Dragon had no ability to take flight and appeared weak in launching attacks from afar. Therefore, he swiftly settled on his approach: engaging in combat while shifting positions in the sky to stay unbeatable.

"Haaa!!!"

Soaring through the skies, Hazas let out a fierce roar and promptly released a blast of Acidic Breath!

From the giant jaws of Hazas erupted a huge blob of dark green acid, pouring downward like a verdant cascade straight from the heights above.

Yet that wasn’t all. Pantoscoke chanted an incantation and swung his green crystal staff, summoning a powerful blast of wind that rushed straight at Rein.

Empowered by the wind, the acid surged forward with speed and force multiplied many times over.

What started as a basic Dragon’s Breath, amplified through wind sorcery, now displayed might almost matching the Dawn Killing Move. This clever tactic from Pantoscoke quickly drew waves of praise from the onlookers.

"The main weakness of mechanical inventions lies in their full metal construction, which rapidly weakens in fights due to acid erosion."

"Pantoscoke Crown possesses incredibly vast battle wisdom. On the other hand, young Lord Rein, despite his fortune in acquiring this mechanical wonder from delving into ancient goblin ruins, sadly knows too little about his foe’s details."

"True enough, it’s regrettable that an Epic Level Battle Power relic from antiquity like this ancient mechanical creation faces destruction so soon. Reginald Crown, perhaps you should talk to young Lord Rein and urge him to surrender right away..."

Thoughts like these also flickered through Pantoscoke’s head, causing a grin to creep unbidden onto his lips.

However, in the very next instant, a sharp pang of alarm hit him. Peering through the veil of green acidic downpour, he caught sight of two abrupt crimson glows.

An innate gut feeling of peril made him guide Hazas into a subtle shift in position.

Right then!

"Ssshh!"

Twin beams of red energy lanced out, slicing through the acidic veil and slamming into the underbelly and left wing of the Green Dragon Hazas!

Meanwhile, the acidic torrent hammered down like a storm of icy pellets onto the massive frame of the Mechanical Demon Dragon.

The two assaults landed on their targets at nearly the exact same moment!

"What!"

"Exchanging wounds for wounds?"

Tension seized the hearts of all spectators. No one had foreseen injuries on both sides right from the opening exchange.

Could this truly be merely a competition?

It burned hotter than any straightforward duel!

"You!!" Pantoscoke shot a venomous glare toward Rein, his face twisted in fury.

"Facing inevitable loss, you opt to wound Hazas merely to vent your refusal to accept defeat? Just as I suspected, Rein, your attitude makes you completely unfit to serve as an Imperial Guardian."

Hissing noises of corrosion rang out from the Mechanical Demon Dragon, with dense, biting fumes rising high, its formerly shiny metal surface now scarred and eaten away, even some seams revealing signs of breakdown.

In the eyes of the crowd, while Rein had managed to harm Pantoscoke’s Green Dragon, the harm inflicted on the Mechanical Demon Dragon looked far more severe.

"Oh? Inevitable loss?"

"Where does such foolish assurance come from?" Rein found the situation rather laughable.

This ’Storm Cloud’ Crown certainly brimmed with overblown arrogance.

While Rein uttered those words, he darted to the side of the Mechanical Demon Dragon. Pressing his hand against it, a dense shimmer of dark silver metal light flowed from his palm, wrapping around the enormous form of the Mechanical Demon Dragon.

This marked the essential ability ’Quick Repair (Active)’ that Rein gained upon becoming a Goblin Engineering Expert.

As the dark silver waves washed over the corroded patches on the Mechanical Demon Dragon’s armor, those damages began to mend bit by bit, much like creased cloth getting ironed flat.

Within mere moments, the Mechanical Demon Dragon returned to its pristine condition, a sight that stunned the entire audience.

"Is this..... some form of Metal Series Witchcraft?"

"No surprise that Lord Rein picked this ancient goblin device for the fight; this sorcery pairs flawlessly with metallic constructs."

The Imperial Guardians, of course, assumed Rein’s key skill was a scarce variant of Metal Series Witchcraft.

After all, Wizards of the Metal Series were scarce to begin with, and Rein’s ’Quick Repair’ did draw on metal energy particles, making the mix-up entirely understandable.

"You..." Pantoscoke’s eyes bulged as he jabbed a finger at Rein, struck speechless for a beat.

For Hazas’s wounds, on the other hand, offered no chance of swift recovery, turning his previous taunts into a stinging blow against himself.

This situation left Pantoscoke both humiliated and enraged.

With his cheeks tinged red, he swallowed his rage and growled deeply, "Seems I’ve misjudged you, but the outcome of victory is still up in the air!"

"Hazas, Drowsy Poison Cloud!"

Wracked with agony, Hazas fixed a venomous stare on Rein and promptly exhaled a vast plume of dark green fog aimed right at him.

Unlike the prior Acidic Breath, this toxic haze carried far superior potency.

Furthermore, this dense fog, laced with effects that induced slumber, proved tough even for protective witch arrays to fully repel, prompting glowing barriers to rise in the stands to ward off the drifting vapors.

"So this is the Drowsy Poison Cloud?"

Rein was well aware of Pantoscoke’s signature technique.

Legends held that anyone touched by this poisonous haze would drop into instant sleep, as if dragged into a vivid dream. Only immense spiritual force might allow resistance against it.
