Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys Chapter 1526 - 525: Shadow Shifting (2)
Previously on Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys...
Her face was filled with sheer terror, her body tensed in a stance ready to bolt away.
Rein, on the other hand, stayed completely still, his face serene as he observed Quinna closely.
"You... how could this be! Your spiritual power is far too powerful!"
"Such intense spiritual power waves, you..." Quinna's eyes turned red with veins, fixed on Rein in utter shock. Yet, deep down, she realized Rein had no intention of sparing her.
Her whole frame quivered as Dragon Scales emerged across her skin, triggering her Dragon Vein Transformation, while her gaze darted toward Bo He lurking behind Cleya.
"Pff!"
Rein caught her sly glance right away and lunged forward in a flash, his hand thrusting straight into a woman's chest, crushing her heart.
Quinna's eyes bulged wide; she never imagined her end would come so swiftly.
The Bloodline Transformation she had barely begun got cut off abruptly, draining her vitality in an instant, leaving her body slack like a spineless serpent, slumping forward with her head lolled, still impaled on Rein's unyielding arm that he hadn't pulled back yet.
Right then, a system alert rang out unexpectedly:
[Ding! Host has absorbed incomplete Shadow Dragon Bloodline, can be integrated with existing Super Mutated Dragon Bloodline, automatically initiating fusion...]
[Ding! Fusion successful!]
[Host’s Bloodline Mutation, gained the Shadow Dragon Bloodline’s special ability ’Shadow Shifting’]
[...In any form, the host will possess the special ability ’Shadow Shifting’.]
[Shadow Shifting: Consumes a large amount of spiritual power to gain the ability to shift through shadow space, its difficulty correlates with the concentration of the Shadow Dragon Bloodline, and its duration is proportional to the consumption of spiritual power.]
"Hmm?" Rein experienced a mild astonishment.
He hadn't anticipated that the foe's Bloodline Essence would actually aid him, especially since her power hadn't reached Epic rank.
Was it because she had taken a Bloodline Burst Potion?
From what he could tell now, even though this Bloodline Essence didn't boost his Bloodline Concentration, it granted him a distinctive Talent Ability.
"Shadow Shifting?"
Rein instantly remembered how Quinna had popped up out of nowhere inside the carriage.
Back then, without his prior vigilance, she could have taken him down.
"Handle the cleanup, Matteo." Rein flicked his arm to drop the body, cleaned his hands, and instructed.
"Yes, Lord Rein." The diminutive Matteo sprang into action at once, joined by two nearby servants to tidy things up.
"Olena, wrap up the report to the Imperial City Security Patrol; the suspect fought back during capture and got eliminated right there," Rein stated coolly.
"Yes... Lord Rein." Olena, ever the quick worker, took a moment to process it.
Next to her, Major General Tatia parted her lips a couple of times, as if on the verge of speaking, but stayed silent.
This marked the first occasion she'd witnessed Rein carry out an execution with such finality.
The chaos they figured would simmer for days had ignited already.
Rein’s trip to Mingster was bound to spark major unrest.
She ought to alert the two Lords without delay.
Still...
Not even Marshal Alfred could likely halt the enraged Lord Rein at this point.
Luther and Halowin kept their faces composed, but inside, waves of shock crashed through them.
They never foresaw Rein striking with such precision and ruthlessness.
As descendants of Great Nobles, both understood the subtle dances of political intrigue. Typically, when a figure like the Second Prince offers regrets, it's wise to allow some face-saving.
After all, only a horse had perished, yet Rein showed no mercy.
Clearly, the clash with the Second Prince had ignited Rein's genuine fury.
His message rang loud: to warn off anyone in the Empire plotting against him, that striking at his kin was off-limits, even as a simple caution.
Any who attempt it will perish!
Quinna had the bad luck to be the initial target, and unusually for him, he offered no quarter to a female.
...
At the same time.
Near the entrance, Buchanan lingered within his opulent carriage.
Moments ago, he was certain Rein's downfall was imminent.
But in the blink of an eye, his eyes stretched wide, jaw dropping slightly, as he saw Quinna's heart pierced by Rein, his frame shaking uncontrollably.
"How bold... he actually slew Quinna outright!"
"Insolent! Utterly insolent, this is a blatant insult to the Second Prince!"
Recalling Rein's authoritative words to him earlier, Buchanan shuddered in rage!
However, when Rein's eyes flicked toward him dismissively, Buchanan felt chilled to the bone, like icy water drenching him completely, and he yelled at the driver in haste:
"Hurry! Return to the estate!"
"Yes, milord!"
The carriage bolted off in a rush.
...
In the Rein Mansion's front courtyard.
"All of you, I'll return by nightfall."
Following a quick goodbye, Rein climbed into the waiting carriage, with Olena and Major General Tatia joining him.
Yet, on this return journey, unlike the trip out, they mostly kept quiet throughout.
Before long, Rein arrived at the Sword Holder Headquarters, wasted no time there, and stepped onto a swift airship bound for Mingster.
Thanks to the pre-scheduled high-speed airship, Rein made it to the Mingster Swordsmen Division in under three hours.
