Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys Chapter 1520 - 523: Jennifer’s Crisis (Part 2)

Previously on Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys...
The Empire Delegation embarked on their return voyage aboard the Imperial Airship Queen, several days behind schedule, under Prince Menia's leadership. Menia confided in Reginald about her budding romantic relationship with Lord Rein, requesting secrecy due to her sensitive position, while Rein returned to his cabin after leaving the ancient mermaid girl in her room. In Mingster, Jennifer worked late into the night with Lagaray and Georgia, discussing trade plans for the Norton Tribe amid reports of attacks on their caravans, prompting her to prepare an early departure as threats linked to Rein escalated, per a urgent message from the Duke of Minter.

Was it possible that... Rein had encountered some trouble?

Otherwise, this incident would be tough to make sense of.

Still, these ideas lingered only in Jennifer's thoughts; she had no intention of voicing them aloud.

"Bang!"

In an instant, the door to the room flew open with a savage kick!

A recognizable silhouette slammed hard into the bookshelf by the doorway, accompanied by a muffled groan that sounded all too familiar.

"Lord Viery!" Georgia cried out!

Viery, the loyal follower of Rein, had been hurled right through the entrance.

"Don’t go over there!"

Lagaray seized the charging Georgia, gave her a firm headshake, snatched up a one-handed axe along with a hefty shield, and stood protectively in front of the stunning Jennifer.

Her long years navigating the cutthroat world of commerce allowed Jennifer to stay cool under pressure, yet her face grew equally grave, since she'd rallied her security detail throughout the estate after getting that covert alert from the Duke of Mingster.

On top of that, she'd made a point to alert Viery, Rein's attendant and a member of the Mingster Swordsmen Division.

Jennifer hadn't anticipated how swiftly the foes would strike or just how overwhelming their power was.

Right now, the estate's perimeter guards lay eerily still, making it clear that—aside from Viery managing a bit of pushback—the rest had been stealthily eliminated by the intruders.

"Hurry! Get the lady out of here first!" Viery rasped out painfully, coughing up blood while struggling to rise.

"Tsk tsk, so you're Viery—decent power on you, but too bad, you've run into us." A towering figure clad in dark armor, gripping a knight's blade, strode inside as he taunted.

Yet he didn't come solo; three additional figures shrouded in black hoods trailed in right after him.

Among them, two donned wizard robes that pulsed with faint ripples of spiritual energy, whereas the third sported a cloak where glimpses of elaborate gold and silver embroidery peeked through, akin to the bespoke garments favored by elite nobility.

"Titled Knight, Crystallization Wizard!"

Lagaray's striking eyes tightened a fraction; she immediately realized these intruders hailed from a mighty imperial force.

It explained why the dozen top-tier guards posted around the estate had been silently dispatched. Without Viery's presence, they wouldn't have stood a chance to even notice.

Such a formidable squad could only be mobilized by a premier noble house on par with Mingster's Bavarian clan.

"Oh? What exquisite beauties— and a wild barbarian lass to boot, delightful!" The cloaked man, who appeared to be of noble birth, eyed Jennifer and Lagaray with obvious glee.

"So you're after us for real, aiming to leverage us against Lord Rein?" Jennifer swiftly pieced together the implication from the enemy's remarks.

"Oh, keeping your cool, huh? Waiting for your Rein to swoop in and save the day, or banking on the Duke of Mingster's backup?" The foe regarded them leisurely, a mocking smirk playing on his lips.

"Too bad—never mind if the Duke of Mingster even dares to dispatch aid, should he try, our forces will cut them off."

"And as for that Rein of yours, he's barely holding on as it is; bet you haven't heard. Here's a complimentary imperial tidbit: your precious Lord Rein got crushed and locked away by the Avatar of the Nether Sea Goddess—he might be gone for good."

With a teasing wag of his finger before them, the enemy adopted a sly, teasing lilt in his voice.

This revelation hit Jennifer and Lagaray like a thunderbolt, twisting their features in dismay.

Had disaster truly struck?

Furthermore, these adversaries weren't just mighty; they knew far too much, fully cognizant of the unbreakable bond linking Rein to Mingster Province's mightiest Bavarian lineage.

"What? Thinking of putting up a fight still?"

"Take a look—this is what happens to those who resist; he put up a solid fight and I reckon you recognize him." One Crystallization Wizard pulled a completely stone-encased head from within his robes.

The head's visage bore no fear, just eyes blazing with fury and defiance.

"Brother!" Georgia wailed, tears pouring forth without restraint.

If Lagaray hadn't clamped down on her with iron grip, Georgia would've charged ahead already.

"Oh? That was your kin, what a shame."

"Ladies of such grace, yield now and the Marquis could show mercy; refuse, and you'll end up as lovely ornaments in my garden." The Crystallization Wizard clutching Fandar's stone head quipped with a dash of mockery.

"Go!"

In that instant, Jennifer appeared to trigger a hidden mechanism beneath the mahogany desk, summoning a shimmering barrier that sprang up across the room, dividing them from the assailants.

At the same time, the wall panel behind Jennifer slid open, exposing a hidden escape route.

"Fleeing, are we? Such childish folly."

One Crystallization Wizard lifted his arm, conjuring a pointed stone spike stretching meters in length that materialized ahead and hurled itself at the glowing barrier.

"Boom!"

The sheer barrier quaked fiercely; it held firm without breaking, but looked on the verge of collapse.

"Oh? Still standing?"

As this Crystallization Wizard geared up for another strike, out of nowhere, Viery hauled his battered form forward, brandishing his massive sword in a powerful Leap Slash that arced down savagely.

"Clang!!!"

Yet the armored brute parried the blow effortlessly, then slammed a brutal kick into Viery's gut, launching him backward through the wall and straight across the estate's lawn.
