Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys Chapter 1508 - 519: Emergency Modification

Previously on Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys...
Rein discovers a rich variety of rare minerals within the underwater volcano, allowing him to practice Goblin Engineering and successfully craft a Magic Iron Rifle. While he focuses on accelerating his mastery of mechanical creations, Menia awakens with her spiritual power still fluctuating and declining. As they share a meal of local fire-element creatures, Menia detects a hidden bloodline essence within the meat. Her discovery suggests that an ancient, high-level Red Dragon may be slumbering deep beneath the molten lava lake.

"I am not certain; it appears this island has been here for a very long time."

"Furthermore, an ancient dragon is one thing, but if it is a Red Dragon at the Extremely Old Dragon Level, I would be unable to assist you. In fact, I would only be a hindrance," Menia said, shaking his head.

"Therefore, Rein, if you intend to scout the area, please wait a few days until I can bring my injuries under temporary control."

"That is perfectly fine, Prince Menia." Rein raised no objections to Menia’s request.

Besides, Menia’s assessment was accurate. A Red Dragon at the Extremely Old Dragon Level would possess strength bordering on the Epic Peak, likely rivaling the Red Dragon King Straz himself.

While Rein felt no fear, he knew that in a sudden clash, he would be unable to protect Prince Menia while fighting such a beast.

...

Anxious about the potential presence of a formidable Red Dragon within the Molten Lava Lake, Menia returned to a state of deep meditation to hasten his recovery. Meanwhile, Rein resumed his research into Goblin Engineering.

Rein decided to postpone using any witchcraft communication due to Menia’s precarious condition. He feared that if Wizards from the Sea God Sect or Evil Sorcerers were patrolling above the island, they might intercept the signal and discover their hiding spot.

Nevertheless, he found it quite enjoyable to immerse himself in a subject of interest within such a tranquil environment.

Before long, upon the successful assembly of the thirty-first 'Magic Iron Rifle', his proficiency in Goblin Engineering reached 100%. A flood of system notifications instantly filled Rein’s mind:

[Ding! The host has mastered the fundamentals of Goblin Engineering, unlocking the advanced job transfer—Goblin Engineer (Legendary)!]

[Requirements for promotion to Goblin Engineer (Legendary): 1. Possession of a Casting or Mechanical Transcendent profession at lv5 or higher (Great Armor Forger satisfied); 2. Strength above 18, Constitution 18, Spirit above 20; 3. Total mastery of Goblin Engineering knowledge; 4. Independent creation of three qualified Goblin Engineering products... Conditions met! Proceed with job transfer to Goblin Engineer (Legendary)?]

[Note: Upon becoming a Goblin Engineer (Legendary), the Great Armor Forger (Transcendent) panel will be absorbed into the Goblin Engineer (Legendary) professional panel.]

Rein did not hesitate for a second. "Yes!"

[Initiating job transfer...]

[Ding! Job transfer to Goblin Engineer (Legendary) successful! Strength +3, Agility +3, Spirit +5!]

[Acquired Core Skill for Goblin Engineer (Legendary): Emergency Modification (Active)]

Looking at the system display,

The previous Great Armor Forger (Transcendent) interface had disappeared, replaced entirely by the Goblin Engineer (Legendary) panel.

The new panel pulsed with a vibrant, deep blue light. In Rein’s memory, this glow was even more intense than that of the Weapon Master (Legendary) he had seen before, nearly matching the radiance of the Warhammer Wizard (Legendary).

This suggested that even among the ranks of Legendary professions, the Goblin Engineer was considered top-tier.

While Rein’s expanded horizons meant he didn't lose his composure, he could not hide his satisfaction.

"Oh? Emergency Modification?"

Rein’s attention was drawn to the new core skill, as the name itself sounded highly practical. The description read as follows:

[Emergency Modification (Active) Effect: A Goblin Engineer can perform rapid modifications to mechanical systems using whatever resources are available on-site. For instance, if specific components are missing, other materials can be used to fashion temporary replacements. Alternatively, parts designed for other machines can be repurposed to fit the current device's requirements.]

(Note: Performing emergency part modifications will consume Spirit. The more complex the part and the rarer the material used, the higher the Spirit cost. Furthermore, these modified parts will only function for a limited duration.)

"This is quite interesting."

A smile spread across Rein’s face after he finished reading the skill details.

Small or medium-sized mechanical devices were manageable, but large-scale machinery rarely consisted solely of metal. Even a prototype like the Metal Magic Statue, which was 99% metal, required rubber seals and ceramic insulators to function.

Consequently, even if Rein found plenty of metal at the Molten Lava Lake and used Fire Witchcraft to forge alloys, he still would have been unable to build a massive machine because of those few missing non-metal components.

Now, everything had changed!

"This is perfect. I can attempt to build a large-scale mechanical device to level up my Goblin Engineer profession and farm some attribute and skill points," Rein mused.

Since his last major conflict, Rein’s attribute points had dwindled to a single point. Facing a powerful foe now would leave him in a vulnerable position.

Without further delay, Rein began his work.

Metal parts of various shapes began to twist and take form under Rein’s touch. Slowly, the frame of a Mechanical Land Bird—a design he had seen many times in the Floating City Ruins—started to take shape before him.

Ten minutes later.

Rein whispered "Emergency Modification" in his mind. Lacking actual insulating materials, he expended Spirit to summon Mysterious Side Energy Particles. This allowed him to temporarily alter the properties of the metal, enabling the rapid assembly of a cylindrical energy furnace roughly half a meter in length.
