"Paper cannot wrap fire; eventually, Xiaoxi will discover the truth," Chen Chen remarked. "If she accepts our situation when that day comes, it will be a blessing for us all. However, if she cannot, we will have no choice but to distance ourselves from you and live out our days in solitude." Ling Xueyan felt a wave of anxiety wash over her upon hearing those words. Her love for Wang Yue ran so deep that she never wished to part from him. Yet, if Chen Xiaoxi proved unable to handle such a blow, she would be forced to endure the agony of separation. In her heart, her daughter's well-being always took precedence.
Wang Yue fixed his gaze on Chen Chen and asked with a deliberate tone, "Have you never considered finding a man you truly love to start a life with?"
"Having once experienced the vastness of the sea, no other water can compare; except for the clouds atop Wushan Mountain, nothing else is worth mentioning," Chen Chen replied, quoting two classical verses that stirred Wang Yue’s soul.
Ling Xueyan, however, chose to blunt the emotional edge of the moment. "Exactly. After being with you, I have zero interest in other men. Even if I tried, it would be incredibly tedious."
"..." Wang Yue went silent for a beat before promising, "Do not worry, Xiaoxi will give her consent. I guarantee it."
"Even as her own mother, I cannot make such a claim. How can you be so certain?" Ling Xueyan asked, her voice tinged with exasperation. She understood her daughter's temperament perfectly. Chen Xiaoxi lacked Chen Chen’s obedient streak. To put it politely, she acted like a pampered young lady; to put it bluntly, she was stubborn and difficult to manage.
"I certainly can. If she refuses, I will simply keep at it—day and night—until she breaks. I am willing to bet she will eventually have to beg for reinforcements!" Wang Yue said, wearing a mock-villainous expression.
"You wouldn't dare!" the mother and daughter cried out together. It was obvious that Xiaoxi’s willful personality was a direct result of their constant pampering.
Wang Yue immediately raised his hands in defeat. "Fine, I admit defeat. If she truly disagrees, I will stop after a while. I won't force the issue!"
The two women laughed at the suggestion. They had just personally felt the extent of Wang Yue’s "talents." In the heat of passion, they would have surrendered anything to him. They could only imagine the sheer frustration of him stopping halfway through.
Following their brief conversation, the three of them tidied their disheveled attire and exited the office together. Since it was noon, Wang Yue intended to treat this stunning pair of mother and daughter to a meal.
Ling Xueyan and her daughter resided in the Chen family mansion. While they typically ate breakfast and dinner at home, their lunch was usually delivered by a secretary, making their presence in the corporate cafeteria a rare event. Their arrival today caused an immediate sensation.
Contrary to Wang Yue’s expectations, however, no drama unfolded. Both Ling Xueyan and Chen Chen possessed extraordinary beauty, each boasting a distinct allure. Especially after receiving Wang Yue’s "nourishment" that morning, they appeared even more radiant, their beauty nearly overwhelming. Simply put, a single look at them was enough to stir any man's desires.
The Chen family enterprise was staffed mostly by men, many of whom were high-level elites. Generally, such successful men possess a great deal of self-assurance.
Yet, the cliché scenario of arrogant men trying to flirt with them never materialized. Though many likely harbored secret admirations or feelings, they showed nothing but profound respect in their presence—extending that same courtesy to Wang Yue, despite him being a mere teenager.
This felt out of place. Weren't protagonists supposed to be provoked at every turn, with their women constantly being harassed? Usually, the hero would then get a chance to show off and crush his rivals. Was he living in the wrong script?
Wang Yue felt a twinge of disappointment. When would he get his chance to flex his power and take revenge? Even the elimination of Li Chonghe had been a clandestine affair that left him badly wounded. This was a far cry from the glorious life of a typical protagonist!
He finally grasped the truth of a certain proverb: When you possess true power, the world treats you with kindness. If he wanted the classic protagonist experience, he would likely have to leave Jinling for a place where he was unknown, or where people didn't fear the local power players. But who would actually abandon a comfortable life and beautiful lovers just to seek out conflict and revenge?
Staying in his own domain, steadily Cultivating until he was invincible—wasn't that the superior path? Over lunch, Wang Yue also met the secretaries of Ling Xueyan and Chen Chen. They were all exceptionally capable and attractive women. It seemed that the preference for beautiful secretaries was shared by both men and women alike.
After finishing their meal, Wang Yue departed from the Chen family headquarters. His mother-in-law and aunt were busy executives, and he had already consumed much of their morning. Staying longer would only hinder their work.
Wandering the streets alone, Wang Yue felt a sudden pang of boredom. Back when his family kept him on a short leash, he yearned for freedom. Now that he had it, he found the outside world somewhat lacking. He felt it might be better to just go home and focus on his martial arts training.
However, a life dedicated solely to study and training seemed too dull. He needed some form of recreation.
Instead of returning home, he drifted aimlessly down the sidewalk. As he passed a nearby school, a familiar sight caught his eye: Li Yingying, the sister of Li Menglan.
She was currently stepping out of a high-end restaurant near the school gates, looking vibrant in her school uniform. A boy, perhaps a year her senior, followed her closely, talking incessantly.
Li Yingying looked exasperated, yet she didn't seem truly angry. Wang Yue wondered about the situation. Was she in some kind of trouble, or was this just a lover's spat?
Wang Yue felt a spark of interest. If it was just a boyfriend issue, he wouldn't interfere. But if she was being bothered, he might finally have some entertainment.
He waved toward her from across the distance, calling out, "Yingying!"
Li Yingying turned around, her eyes widening with a mix of shock and joy. "Wang... Wang Yue!" she stammered.
Wang Yue approached them quickly, throwing a sharp glance at the boy. "Is there a problem here?"
"Classmate Li, it looks like you have company, so I'll take my leave," the boy muttered before quickly making his exit.
