The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 6 Transformation
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Rosie followed behind Rex, her mind swirling with a sense of deep intrigue.
As she observed the reddish-white steam radiating from Rex’s skin, she became certain that there was more to him than he let on. He was definitely not just an ordinary person.
However, his sudden, frantic sprinting left her utterly bewildered.
Being an Awakened, Rosie managed to keep pace with him without much trouble. She navigated through the mall crowds with grace, Unlike Rex, who charged forward like a madman with no regard for the people he nearly bowled over.
His speed continued to ramp up as they neared the mall's exit.
Rosie watched as Rex burst out of the building and stared up at the sky, his strange behavior deepening her confusion. Then, without warning, he collapsed.
Shocked by his sudden fall, Rosie rushed to his side. She found him on the ground, his features twisted in an expression of pure agony.
Seeing Rex curled up and trembling in pain, Rosie felt a wave of helplessness wash over her.
"Hey! Are you alright?! What is happening?!" she cried out, her voice laced with genuine concern.
Even though she usually lacked interest in those who weren't an Awakened, she couldn't simply abandon him in such a dire state.
In a panic, she moved closer to him.
Enduring the overwhelming torment wracking his body, Rex managed to wheeze out a faint plea, "H-Help..."
"What was that? I can't hear you, please say it again!"
"Are you ill? Do you need medication? Talk to me!"
By now, the surrounding shoppers had noticed the scene.
A crowd began to gather, whispering as they watched Rex suffer on the pavement. Rosie gritted her teeth, realizing she had to get him away from these prying eyes immediately.
She reached into her purse and retrieved a shimmering white crystal.
Upon crushing it, the crystal erupted in a brilliant radiance. The light expanded, shielding them from the crowd's view and enveloping both her and Rex.
When the glow finally faded, the pair had vanished completely.
"Where did they go?" a man in a jumpsuit asked, blinking in surprise.
A middle-aged woman nearby answered, "They teleported. That’s a Transferral Crystal, one of the UWO’s latest inventions."
"They must be powerful Awakened; those things cost a fortune," another bystander remarked.
At the same moment, a flash of light signaled their arrival inside a mansion located a short distance from Nokas Mall.
Rosie had chosen to bring him to her family estate, as she didn't know where else to turn. Since the Transferral Crystal was specifically bound to her home, taking him to a hospital hadn't been an option.
"ARRGGHH!!" Rex suddenly let out a piercing scream.
Rosie jumped, startled by the outburst. She looked down at him as he continued to clutch his body. "Rex, talk to me! What’s going on? How can I help you?"
Rex didn't answer. Instead, he shoved her away as the sound of snapping bone filled the air.
Crack!
Krack!
The sickening noise of shifting skeletal structures echoed as Rex’s frame began to expand. His fingernails lengthened into sharp points, and his human teeth sharpened into lethal fangs.
Before Rosie’s eyes, his already fit physique swelled into something inhumanly muscular.
But the most terrifying part wasn't just his size; jet-black hair was erupting across his skin, rapidly turning into thick fur.
Terrified, Rosie began to slowly back away.
'Is this an awakening? But there are no elemental signs in this change,' Rosie thought, analyzing the transformation. This was nothing like the process an Awakened went through.
As Rex’s spine began to arch unnaturally, Rosie’s instincts screamed that she was in mortal danger.
She didn't hesitate. Activating her powers, a vibrant green aura began to glow around her. "I have to move him to the training room," she whispered to herself.
With her mind made up, she lunged toward Rex and chanted, "Wind Gale!"
Swoosh!
She struck Rex’s back with both palms, releasing a violent burst of wind that propelled him through the doorway of a nearby room.
The moment Rex was inside, Rosie slammed the door shut.
'He is definitely not normal... How can a non-Awakened make me shake with this much fear?' she wondered, staring at her trembling hands.
Inside the room, Rex was drowning in the most excruciating pain he had ever known.
'What is this?! Was that system actually real and not just some hallucination?!' Rex roared internally. He stared at his hands, now covered in fur, featuring nails as long and sharp as daggers.
Despite the evidence right in front of him, he tried to deny reality. 'It’s impossible... I'm human! I can't be one of those foul Supernaturals!'
"AAHHH!!" he shrieked, the sound tearing from his throat.
The metamorphosis was still in progress. His bones continued to stretch and shift, his body growing larger by the second.
For two agonizing minutes, Rex’s shrill cries filled the mansion.
Outside the door, Rosie’s legs felt like jelly. Every scream of pain sent a freezing shiver down her spine.
'Could he be a Supernatural?' she questioned herself.
She immediately shook her head. 'No, that’s impossible. No Supernatural race can disguise themselves as human like that. It can't be.'
Eventually, the screaming began to subside, growing quieter until it stopped altogether.
A heavy silence descended upon the mansion.
The previously chaotic halls were now deathly still, the air thick with tension.
Summoning her courage, Rosie pressed her ear against the door.
She listened intently, trying to gauge the situation. Instead of a human voice, she heard a low, guttural growling that sounded distinctly animalistic.
Her heart hammered against her ribs. She felt a desperate urge to look inside. Though the growling painted a terrifying picture, her curiosity won out, and she decided to take a peek.
Creak...
She pushed the door open just a fraction.
Fully expecting to see Rex transformed, Rosie peered into the room, keeping her power active and ready for a fight.
The training hall was massive, the size of a full basketball court. Racks of weapons lined the walls, and a large window at the far end stood open to the night air.
Rosie swallowed hard as her gaze landed on the center of the room.
Under the crimson glow of the Blood Moon streaming through the window, a dark creature stood on two legs. Its silhouette was cast in deep shadow.
Gouges from sharp claws marred the wooden floor around the beast.
Her body froze when the creature suddenly turned its head toward her.
With its back to her, the creature’s glowing yellow eyes locked onto hers, shining brightly in the red moonlight. It possessed a human-like frame but was armed with terrifying fangs and claws.
With Rex nowhere to be found, Rosie knew this beast was him.
Judging by his current state, he appeared to be a half-Werewolf; he lacked a full snout and wasn't as massive as a standard Werewolf.
Still, the sight of a Werewolf filled her with primitive dread.
Werewolves were among the dominant Supernatural races, respected as high-ranking warriors and the core strength of the Supernatural world.
Their feral nature and overwhelming physical power were the stuff of legends for humanity.
Furthermore, they were at their most lethal during the night.
While a group of elite Awakened might take down a Werewolf during the day, the night amplified their power, turning them into horrific monsters from the darkest fairytales.
Rosie instinctively retreated as she maintained eye contact with Rex.
Her movement triggered him. Rex turned fully toward her, those piercing yellow eyes never wavering.
Rosie held her breath, her heart racing.
Her legs felt weak under the weight of that bloodthirsty stare.
Grr...
A low growl vibrated in Rex’s throat as he bared his teeth.
"Rex... It’s me! You have to snap out of it!" she pleaded, hoping a spark of his human consciousness remained. She couldn't bring herself to believe he had truly become a monster.
She remembered the gentle way he looked at his mother and his generally obedient nature. To her, it was inconceivable that a Supernatural could simply pass for a human like he did.
But Rex was gone for now.
The primal urges triggered by the Blood Moon had drowned his mind in bloodlust, leaving him deaf to her voice.
In his red-tinted vision, Rosie was nothing more than prey. Saliva began to drip from his maw.
As Rosie backed toward the door,
Rex’s eyes flashed with predatory intent. He lunged at her, his hands tensed into claws, ready to tear her apart.
Slash!
Rosie managed to dive out of the way just in time, using a burst of wind to propel herself to the side.
The attack missed, but Rex’s momentum carried him into the door, slamming it shut. Rosie’s face went pale.
She was trapped. Her only exit was now blocked by the beast.
Realizing she had no other choice, Rosie steeled herself. She would have to fight.
'How am I, a rank two Awakened, supposed to fight a Werewolf that even high-ranking warriors fear?' she thought, cold sweat dripping down her neck.
Then, a thought struck her.
She scanned the room desperately until her eyes landed on her target. 'There! My sword!'
Among the various practice weapons was a silver blade with a distinctive green edge. It was her personal weapon.
Just as she spotted it—
Roar!
Rex was upon her again, his jaws snapping inches from her face.
With a nimble roll, Rosie evaded the strike, and Rex collided with the wall behind her.
Her combat instincts took over.
She immediately cast a spell to hinder him, swinging her arm in a wide arc. "Basic Magic, Wind Cutter!"
Whoosh!
A blade of compressed air sliced toward Rex.
Rex’s eyes flared. He roared and swiped at the incoming projectile with his claws, attempting to shatter it.
The Wind Cutter resisted for a moment before being torn in two by his sheer strength.
However, the distraction worked. Rosie reached her sword and immediately unleashed another attack. "Basic Magic! Wind Cutter!"
Whoosh!
This time, the blade of wind was far more potent.
Rex tried to parry it again, but the increased power forced him to struggle. This gave Rosie the opening she needed to close the gap.
While Rex was occupied with the wind blade,
Rosie pressed her palm against his midsection. Her eyes glowed green as she unleashed her Wind Gale spell at point-blank range.
BAM!
The explosive force hit Rex square in the stomach, sending him flying into the wall. He stumbled to his feet, shaking his head to clear the cobwebs.
It didn't take long for him to lock onto Rosie again.
Rosie was already sprinting for the door. 'This is my only chance!'
'My Wind Gale is my strongest spell, and it barely did anything to him. I can't win this; I have to get out!' she thought frantically.
Just as she reached for the handle, a cold draft brushed her cheek.
Rex had appeared beside her with terrifying speed. He raised a clawed hand and swung with full killing intent.
'He's too fast! I can't get out of the way!' Rosie’s eyes widened in horror.
Knowing she couldn't dodge, she wrapped her body in a green aura and crossed her arms to shield herself. 'He isn't an Awakened, so even in this form, I should be able to block—'
Her train of thought was cut short by the sheer impact.
She had assumed that because he wasn't an Awakened, his power would be manageable. She was dead wrong. The force of the blow was staggering.
Slash!
"Arghh!" Rosie cried out in pain.
Rex’s claws tore deep into her arms. The strength behind the hit sent her crashing into the wall near the window before she slumped to the floor.
Blood trickled from her lip.
Her arms were a mess of blood, marked by four deep gashes. She looked up at Rex’s glowing eyes, her vision beginning to swim. 'He's too powerful!' she realized, her mind racing for a solution as her strength faded.
Then, she noticed the heavy curtains nearby.
It was a long shot, but she had no other options left. 'Please, let this work...' she prayed.
Using the last of her energy, Rosie grabbed the curtain and yanked it shut, covering the window.
The room was instantly plunged into total darkness, cutting off the moonlight.
'If the moon is what fuels a Werewolf, maybe this will stop him,' she hoped.
Rosie collapsed against the floor, her mana drained and her body broken.
Thud... Thud... Thud...
She heard footsteps approaching. She could barely lift her head; the impact with the wall had caused internal injuries.
Through her hazy vision, she saw those yellow eyes staring down at her.
Rex’s massive form loomed over her. Though she couldn't see his claws in the dark, she knew he was preparing for the final blow.
But then, something changed. 'Eh?'
Rex’s eyes widened, and his hand froze mid-air as a sliver of his consciousness returned.
Whether it was the lack of direct moonlight or a sheer miracle, Rex regained a faint sense of self. He looked down at the bloodied Rosie in horror. 'What have I done?!' he thought, filled with self-loathing.
Even with his mind returning, the primal bloodlust continued to claw at him.
He felt like a killer who had suddenly found a spark of empathy for his victim.
One part of him screamed to finish her,
But before the beast could take over again, Rex gathered his willpower and hurled himself through the window, desperate to get away from her.
The guilt of what he had done to Rosie was unbearable.
His heavy frame shattered the glass as he leaped out into the night.
Fortunately, Rosie’s mansion sat on the edge of Ratmawati City, bordering the dense Emham Forest.
Rex sprinted toward the trees without a second thought.
His only goal was to isolate himself. Hurting Rosie was bad enough; he couldn't risk encountering a crowd and losing control again.
His shadow vanished into the depths of the woods.
A moment later, a powerful, haunting howl echoed through the Emham Forest.
Aooouuuuuuuuuu!
-------
Deep within another part of the Emham Forest,
Aoooouuuuuu!!
A massive, muscular beast with crimson skin and a single horn on its brow was feasting on a deer carcass. It paused, lifting its head as the howl reached its ears.
This creature was far larger than Rex.
It stood on two legs with a grotesque face, two long fangs protruding from its lower jaw. In its hand, it gripped a heavy tree trunk used as a club.
As it pinpointed the source of the howl, the creature’s eyes turned a violent shade of red.
It cast the deer aside and glared toward the sound. With a roar of fury, it began charging toward the source of the howl.
