The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order Chapter 2391 The death of the Scarlet King (IV)

"I need to return to them."
Teeth gritted tightly, Cain's gaze blazed with fierce resolve. He wasted no time at all before diving back into his cultivation.
Those next few days blurred by in an unyielding haze. In every instant of clear thought he could grasp, Cain concentrated on healing, channeling all his efforts toward steadying his energy and rebuilding his might. Regrettably, as age crept further upon him, the curse struck with greater regularity. Every outburst ripped his rationality to shreds, scattering his mind and sending him adrift aimlessly.
The sole bright spot lay in how those spells brought an odd peace to his spirit and psyche. In truth, concerns couldn't arise when the mind held nothing to fret over.
Despite that, the curse hampered his advancement much more than anticipated. At last, by the sixth day, Cain achieved success.
His energy rushed to full potency once more—his prowess matching, or maybe exceeding, the force he'd commanded against the Curse Eater. His presence settled firmly, thick and fearsome, radiating the dominance of a genuine Primordial.
However, the Scarlet King's outward form painted an entirely opposite picture.
Only a week prior, Cain had appeared as a youthful figure at life's height, his features perfect and his aura commanding. These days, he resembled someone in his eighties. Profound creases etched his face, strands of hair whitened completely, and the burden of years weighed heavily on his frame.
"Luckily, old age hasn't affected my battle power yet," Cain grumbled, his tone gravelly. "But that will change soon."
Drawing in a steadying breath, he peered out at the realm past the dome.
"It's now or never."
Resembling a crimson comet streaking through the void, Cain launched skyward. He struck the dome's top and punched a breach right through, hurtling into the shadows outside.
Right away, enormous bolts of yellow lightning hurtled at him, the Universe Will's fury barreling forth to eradicate him, viewing the Scarlet King as one of the ancient beings who'd challenged its laws long ago.
On this occasion, Cain stood ready.
Golden lightning flickered around his palms as he triggered Diverge, deflecting the mightiest strikes from his route. The leftover surges hammered his form, yet Cain withstood them through raw toughness alone.
Even a physique that could rival advanced Alpha-Omega Overgod armor scorched beneath the Universe Will's overwhelming force when aimed at a doomed target. Even so, the Scarlet King
ground his teeth and pressed onward.
With each advance, he drew nearer to redemption.
Nearer to his kin.
Nearer to his comrades.
Nothing would block his path.
The lightning accelerated and turned wilder, lashing from all angles with unpredictable intensities. Before long, the chaos overwhelmed Cain's capacity to dissect and counter it via the Flow.
"ARGHHH!"
Cain bellowed while coating his limbs in Zero-State Force and firing directly at the onslaught. Pure power collided with universal command, detonations shattering the blackness.
"BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!"
Blasts of Zero-State Force rippled outward in every direction as Cain
shoved ahead relentlessly. Crimson droplets sprayed into emptiness as the lightning ravaged him, while violet fires endlessly mended his shredded tissue.
The whole voyage turned into a torturous ordeal.
Nevertheless, Cain refused to falter—not for an instant.
Pain meant nothing to him.
Torment held no sway.
Only arrival at the far side counted.
"BOOOOM!"
A streak of lightning smashed straight into his visage, charring away half in a flash. And still, a grin spread over Cain's mouth.
He sensed it.
The dimensional limit.
"A few more seconds," Cain mused. "And I'll be out of the World
Forge and back in the Nine Empyrean Suns Universe."
The instant that idea surfaced, his eyes trembled.
Then the keen edge dulled.
His stare lost its sharpness, overtaken by bewilderment and vertigo.
Comprehension of events escaped him now.
"BOOM!"
The Universe Will showed no pity.
Yellow lightning burst from all sides, pounding Cain's frame mercilessly. Howls of torment escaped his lips as his bewilderment intensified. He couldn't grasp the reason for the assault. He couldn't fathom his offense.
Pain was all he recognized.
In a frenzy, Cain scanned wildly for refuge—any haven at all. His sight fixed on the shadowy metropolis below.
Lacking any rationale, he retreated.
He darted back to the dark city, retreating from the realm's border, with lightning still ripping through his body. His state deteriorated rapidly, but mere moments before total collapse, Cain passed the boundary.
The dome closed up behind him.
The lightning ceased.
Cain crumpled to the floor, his frame shaking uncontrollably. He gaped at the stormy heavens overhead, gasping for air, his eyes brimming with
anguish.
Gradually, awareness sharpened again.
The fog of confusion lifted.
In its place surged fury.
Irritation.
Dread.
"DAMMIT!"
Cain pounded his fists down, fissures spiderwebbing across the metal surface under the blow. His bellow resounded through the
dark city.
"I was so damn close!"
His pulse raced chaotically as hopelessness loomed to engulf him.
That opportunity had been his.
His sole shot.
No chance existed to regain enough vigor to confront the Universe Will anew—not before senescence consumed his being utterly.
"I... lost."
Cain's breaths came harder, more uneven, his mind whirling as he hunted frantically for an alternative route.
None appeared.
"I'm going to die."
As a Dreamwalker, dread of mortality hadn't haunted Cain in ages. Even prior to that, he'd braced for it.
Yet this went beyond himself alone.
His end here would doom Leonidas.
Amon would perish.
Abel would fall.
The Scarlet Stars would dim, their essence snuffed out.
The Nine Empyrean Suns Alliance would stand isolated against the
World of the Root.
And victory would elude them in that clash.
Cain bowed his head, fists quivering as the truth's burden bore down relentlessly.
