Matriarch Lingxue sat upon her throne amidst a sea of roots, her thoughts consumed by memories of Qingyi's touch and the peril facing her people, her body betraying her with rising arousal. As a familiar aura approached, space distorted, and Qingyi suddenly appeared, catching her as she stumbled and boldly grasping her form, eliciting moans and a surge in her corruption. He confirmed his newfound Ancestral Emperor power and urged her to evacuate her kin far from the strengthening demonic seed, sealing his words with a deep, invasive kiss that left her breathless. Qingyi vowed to fulfill his promises to Xueyao by making Lingxue his eternal wife, prompting her fierce warning against his death before she fled in confusion, her ancient heart stirring with unfamiliar love.

Once Lingxue departed, Qingyi lingered in solitude and quiet, emitting faint waves of Qi to probe his surroundings and detect every detail.

Nearly an hour elapsed before Qingyi, assured that Lingxue had evacuated all the fox women from the hazardous region, decided to proceed.

He approached one of the numerous roots and placed his palms against the solid, textured bark.

Shutting his eyes, Qingyi released a surge of Qi and analyzed the returning echoes.

"I found you." A smile crossed Qingyi's face as his form vanished, engulfed by a rift in space.

Upon emerging again, he found himself in an unfamiliar realm.

In every direction, blinding light filled his vision. Fields of pale grass stretched out, beneath a colorless sky enclosed by ivory barriers.

A soft wind brushed against his flowing dark locks while he traversed this domain.

"This has to be the core of the Tree of Life...

His gaze swept across the landscape until it fixed upon the middle, where the object of his search lay.

It wasn't precisely a seed. Describing it as a chrysalis fit better.

it.

The throbbing crimson form stood about two to three meters in height.

Though encased in just a delicate clear layer, the dense fluid concealed its contents.

Qingyi extended one finger, summoning a sphere of scarlet fire at its end.

He sensed the alarming demonic Qi intensifying, devouring the vital essence from the fox folk's Tree of Life.

Without his robust physique, he knew this Qi would have already tainted him deeply.

This situation demanded an end.

With a heavy sigh, he drew in a deep breath and expelled it forcefully.

A scorching beam of intense heat burst forth swiftly, striking the chrysalis with devastating power.

The scene ahead divided sharply, mirroring the split in his assault, as a razor-like shield materialized before the chrysalis.

Qingyi's strike halted abruptly, exposing the undamaged chrysalis nestled amid two massive gashes in the earth.

Several instants ticked by until at last, a change occurred.

The chrysalis trembled fiercely, rippling wildly before it crumbled apart.

Vivid scarlet fluid gushed out in thick streams, tainting all it encountered. Along with the flow, a silhouette tumbled to the surface.

The outline was unmistakably feminine, yet soaked in the viscous ooze. Qingyi couldn't discern her face.

Paired curved horns, seemingly sheathed in flesh, emerged alongside cascading silver tresses, stark against the crimson coating her body.

The form rested briefly on the ground, appearing at ease until, beneath Qingyi's watchful stare, discomfort set in.

Her eyes fluttered open, clear and profound, resembling those of an infant beholding existence anew.

Her digits clutched at the now bloodied white blades of grass.

Her initial response held no fury, no hostility, nor any effort to conceal her bare form.

Instead, she merely uprooted a single stalk, examining it intently between her fingers.

The ruddy substance vanished entirely, dissipating into the atmosphere and unveiling the grass's pristine allure.

"What is this?" she inquired, inhaling the scent of the grass blade.

So sweet and so perfect.

"Spiritual grass of some kind..."

"Hm..." Her mouth formed a gentle arc. "I like that."

"Are you here to kill me?" she pressed on, locking her gaze with

Qingyi's.

"Yes..." He inclined his head. "What are you?"

A shiver ran through her, prompting an instant withdrawal.

"I am a thing... a bag to gather energy for my master..."

A flicker of terror gleamed in her eyes, enduring just a fleeting second before curiosity overtook it.

"Why do you want to kill me?" she questioned once more, rising to her feet and pinching the grass with her inquisitive, slender fingers.

"Because you will hurt people I love."

"Hm... but... I don't want to hurt anyone."

"And does that change anything?"

"No..." She bowed her head, twisting her fingers in unease.

"I can't sense the energy reserves prepared by my creator. Nor the

Daughter of the Icy Moon."

"They are far from here. Now, it's just you and me..." Qingyi replied, an odd look spreading across his features.

Daughter of the Icy Moon? Was she referring to Xueyao? What drew the Heavenly Demon to Xueyao?

"I know..." The seed murmured again, her tone barely audible.

Pain lingered in her eyes, mingled with surrender and chiefly, uncertainty. She glanced at her palms, then back to Qingyi.

In the instant that followed, she vanished. The earth under her soles reduced to fine powder.

Qingyi whipped his head aside, his stare icy and intent while his locks

billowed.

A trickle of scarlet fluid traced his cheek. A slender gash appeared momentarily before healing, the blood turning to a

crimson mist.

"Hm... I hit you... things die when they are hit... are you already dead?"

"No..." Qingyi pivoted, observing her positioned behind him.

What afflicted this woman? She truly resembled a fresh-born being.

He sealed his eyelids and steadied his respiration.

She had to perish.

For the fox people's welfare.

Should she near them, she might rouse the power inside and drain them dry.

He refused to chance it.

Qingyi channeled his entire Qi into his clenched fist, his gaze brimming with lethal resolve as he struck out.

The woman appeared bewildered initially, eyeing the incoming blow

at blistering velocity.

She blinked, and as awareness dawned, her frame ripped free from the soil, enveloped by a shield while hurled back.

The encircling white barriers contained her for a mere heartbeat before shattering, flinging her form into an unknown realm.

It was beautiful. Vast woodlands, avian melodies, and a radiant, fierce

sun.

If possible, she would gaze upon it eternally.

She spun around, seeing the colossal tree shaft from which she'd been ejected recede.

A fierce blaze aura burst from the breach she'd carved in the shaft, hurtling toward her swiftly.

She folded her arms, and at once, twin scarlet swords materialized in her grasp.

She regarded the swords, as though summoning them stemmed from reflex over intent.

Her lovely eyes sharpened. Then, she swung ahead.

Qingyi's onslaught parted in twain from that swing.

The ensuing blaze sphere swallowed her whole, the inferno raging

across leagues and obliterating all in its path.

Trees, birds, animals, spirit beasts, and even oxygen.

Nothing remained but oppressive white smoke.
