After emerging from his breakthrough in the cultivation room, Long Qingyi checked his enhanced status and departed Meilin's mansion, deterred from entering her bedroom by the women's private preparations. He teleported to a distant forest to test his newfound Ancestral Emperor Realm powers, deploying his domain and hurling a stone to gauge its unyielding boundaries. Sensing a powerful presence, Qingyi encountered an elderly Astral Body Realm cultivator approaching with curiosity rather than hostility, who inquired about his origins and revealed the capital's ranking of elite talents known as the Five Dragons and Nine Phoenixes. As a newcomer to the imperial capital, Qingyi accepted the old man's invitation to accompany him back for a drink and potential sparring.

The elder pivoted towards the capital city, pausing just an instant before surging ahead at full throttle.

He restrained nothing, transforming his form into a shadowy streak.

Much to his astonishment, a quick look sideways revealed Qingyi right there, matching his pace without effort.

"Oh... fascinating!"

A grin spread across the elder's features without restraint, as he channeled additional Qi into his lower limbs.

In that instant, his velocity almost doubled, with the atmosphere ahead rupturing into a mighty blast wave.

"Not bad for an elder like you, right?" Qingyi remarked, once more pacing alongside the old man with the same ease.

"Elderly? I'm at my peak, youngster! It's just... I've forever been a fighter focused on

power, rather than swiftness." The elder averted his gaze and lifted his chin haughtily.

There was scarcely any opportunity for chatting with Qingyi, as the towering barriers of the capital loomed ever closer in the distance.

"Ah... returning to this corrupt, gilded nightmare!" The elder beamed widely, halting his rush mere meters shy of the capital's main entrance.

The sentries guarding it jolted in alarm, seizing their arms.

Upon recognizing the figure, they eased up, offering bows with clasped hands.

"Salutations, General Xu Jianming!"

"Ah... forget the formalities, I've quit the imperial forces!" The elder grumbled, touching down on the earth and signaling Qingyi to join him.

"You see, I'm pretty renowned in these regions. Xu Jianming, the Crimson Eclipse Saber! Heard the name? From the distant north to the beast territories, all know of me." Jianming grinned, swelling his torso proudly.

"I haven't come across that moniker before, senior, but I'd love a spar where you demonstrate its origins." Qingyi responded thoughtfully after a brief pause.

In truth, the title Crimson Eclipse Saber had never reached his ears.

Yet, it was clear that such a designation instantly sparked his interest.

"Ugh... you truly know nothing, lad. What are you, someone who ascended from the lower realms? Didn't realize dragons existed up there." The elder inquired, scrutinizing Qingyi's expression.

The youth maintained a solemn look, unflinching at the remark.

"Hold on, are you genuinely an ascender from the mortal realms?" The elder pressed, earning a nod from Qingyi.

"Damn, only three years gone and everything's shifted so much." Jianming shook his head, muttering under his breath with a touch of frustration in his tone.

With a heavy breath, he hastened his steps towards the heart of the capital.

"So, tell me, elder, who's this son-in-law you're rushing to see?" Qingyi questioned with intrigue.

"Which other fellow in the capital deserves me as his father-in-law? The Gold King, naturally!" The elder declared, chest inflating once more, overlooking the stunned look on Qingyi's visage.

"The King of Gold? Jin Hao? You're related to him as father-in-law?"

"Indeed, why? At last, a familiar face here, hahaha." The elder chuckled heartily.

"Jin Hao happens to be my father-in-law too."

At those words, the elder's grin vanished entirely, and he came to a halt.

Thoughts whirled in his head.

By appearance, he estimated Qingyi at around twenty-five, yet most daughters of the Gold King were either too youthful for him, lacking in aptitude, or wed already.

As the elder's thoughts churned, a particular name surfaced.

"Lad... are you wed to Jin Meilin?" the elder queried, eyes bulging.

"Our wedding is imminent." Qingyi affirmed with a nod, a gentle smile gracing his striking, rugged features.

The elder quivered, fumbling for a reply until he merely exhaled in resignation.

"Let's make haste, my son-in-law ought to have a fine ring where I can

loosen some teeth from that handsome, arrogant mug of yours." The elder

snorted, evidently irked.

"Hahaha." Qingyi burst into laughter, though his tone swiftly grew grave. "I'd like to watch you attempt it, elder."

All he got back was a low rumble.

The elder soared upwards into the heavens and dashed towards the core of the enlightened metropolis, home to the Gold King's estate. Qingyi breathed out, holding a mild smile as he trailed not far behind.

Of course, soaring over the capital without explicit clearance or holding a high official post was

strictly prohibited.

A few watchmen even spotted the pair, but one look at the leading elder sufficed to make them abandon any notion of interference.

In the end, regulations bound only the powerless.

An Ancestral Emperor alongside a veteran powerhouse from the Astral Body Realm. Who would dare block their path?

After mere moments in the air, the elder touched down before the grand, opulent residence, striding through the portals undisturbed. At once, a silhouette materialized ahead, dropping to one knee. "Young Master Qingyi, Master Jianming. Master Jin Hao remains occupied with the Third Young Master; shall I notify him of your presence?"

"Hm... simply inform him we're at the arena." The elder inclined his head, dismissing the figure with a gesture.

Stepping inside the estate and navigating a vast stairway down to the subterranean floors, the elder glanced at Qingyi.

"What in the world befell that rascal Third Young Master? He wasn't ill last I knew." Jianming murmured, tugging at his beard as he paused mid-stride.

They now stood before the doors to the Gold King's secluded arena, buried nearly three hundred meters underground.

"He wasn't ill; he merely tried crossing me, so Meilin neutered him with one strike. Quite the spectacle." Qingyi snickered, brushing off the elder's

astonishment.

"Meilin? Does she possess the combat prowess to pull that off against

her sibling? Unthinkable! She's clever, sure, but the Third Young Master is a prodigy eyeing the Astral Body

Realm."

"You'll grasp it upon seeing her anew." Qingyi shook his head, declining to elaborate further for the elder. Pushing open the arena doors, he surveyed the space with interest.

All he sought was a fitting moment to gauge his fresh power and measure up against a top-tier Astral Body Realm master.

Luckily, the Gold King's private arena was superb, capable of withstanding the full might of an expert at the elder's caliber.
