The Corruption Dragon God: Lust System Chapter 408 - I will bring death to your enemies.
As soon as the pill was swallowed, the complexion of David Valemont turned deathly dark.
His gaze dropped to the floor and his legs began to shake uncontrollably.
It was only the support of his wife and daughter that kept him upright as they guided him toward the bed.
Agony was all he knew.
A hellish, piercing pain surged through him, taking command of every fiber of his being.
His mana heart was ablaze, circulating massive torrents of energy throughout his physical frame.
However, the transformation did not stop there.
His wasted muscles began to fill out, his brittle hair regained its luster, and even his weathered skin turned clear and healthy.
“Did I not tell you how incredible my hubby is? Hehehe.” Isabel let out an excited laugh, leaning into the arms of Qingyi, who was quietly observing David as the King’s eyes slid shut.
The pill had initiated the process, flooding David Valemont’s body with a potent restorative force.
The outcome now rested on the King’s ability to harness that surging energy.
While a full recovery of David's peak power wasn't expected immediately after months of stagnation, he would, at the very least, regain enough strength to stand on his own.
Abruptly, David’s eyes snapped open.
A shockwave of mana erupted from him, and a thick mist of vapor escaped his lips.
He turned his gaze toward Qingyi before fixing his eyes upon the bishop.
“Leave us. I require private time with my family,” David commanded with a cold edge.
His voice was notably more robust than before, and the fog that had clouded his mind was rapidly dissipating.
“Your Majesty, I must!”
“Immediately. You may exit through the door or be thrown through the window. It is your choice,” David interjected sharply, dismissing the bishop’s protests.
He had reached his limit with that treacherous bastard.
The only reason the man hadn't openly joined the rebellion was because the church had forbidden it.
David had far more pressing matters to attend to now.
Fuming with indignation, the bishop retreated from the room, with the doctor following close behind.
Soon, the chamber held only Qingyi, Sofia, Isabel, and David.
“You haven't fully healed yet, dear. Please, rest a bit more...” Sofia said as she reached for her husband’s arm.
“I have recovered sufficiently.” David shook his head and walked toward Qingyi. The two stood face-to-face, measuring one another with steady gazes. “You possess the aura of a formidable warrior. What name do you go by?” David questioned.
“Long Qingyi. You also appear to be a powerful warrior,” Qingyi answered, offering a respectful bow. “Isabel has shared many tales of your deeds. I look forward to the day we can share a friendly duel, father-in-law.”
“One day, perhaps.” David gave a bittersweet smile and pulled Qingyi into a firm embrace. “Sofia informed me that you slew Count Nirm and protected my family from ruin. Now, you have even preserved my life. I am in your debt eternally,” David stated, before gesturing for the group to follow him.
Inside the throne room, several influential nobles—who had crawled back after the siege was lifted—were locked in a heated argument with the bishop.
Their faces were masks of pure shock when David walked in.
The King strode toward his seat of power and sat down with an air of casual authority.
His cold eyes scanned the assembly, and his fingers drummed rhythmically against the stone of his ancient throne.
“Are you disappointed that I did not perish?” David asked icily.
“N-no, my lord! Not in the least!” One noble stammered, being the first to recoil.
David responded only with a look of utter disgust.
Dismissing them with a shake of his head, he focused his attention on Qingyi, beckoning the handsome youth to come forward.
“While you wretched cowards were fleeing, this young man stood his ground to defend my kin. He personally ended Count Nirm. By his hand alone, an army of eight thousand was crushed.”
As David’s declaration rang out through the hall, a wave of hushed whispers broke out.
Rumors regarding this mysterious hero had already begun to circulate.
The man from the East who had accompanied Isabel on her journey to the convent was said to be a powerhouse at the ninth ring level.
So, this was the man in question?
“In recognition of his bravery, I grant him permission to marry my daughter, Isabel Valemont. Furthermore, I bestow upon him the title of Prince, command over the remnants of the Royal Army, and the duty to purge the traitors from our land.”
The following silence was heavy with disbelief.
Handing over the military to a total stranger who likely knew nothing of their kingdom's inner workings?
Had the King lost his mind?
They could reconcile with the marriage and the title, but granting Qingyi such immense authority was unthinkable!
Protests erupted from the crowd.
Nobles shouted for fairness and began putting forward their own candidates for the position.
Yet, their cries were hollow.
The strongest among them had only reached the eighth ring. The only individuals present with the power of the ninth ring were David Valemont and Long Qingyi.
Truthfully, Qingyi was caught off guard by the announcement.
He had little interest in military leadership, though he had already intended to eliminate anyone threatening his in-laws, so the responsibility didn't bother him much.
However, as the nobles pointed out, Qingyi lacked knowledge of the local terrain and possessed only basic military tactics.
But in his heart, Qingyi realized what David Valemont was trying to achieve.
Normally, the King or his heir—who was currently away in the Rose Empire—would lead the forces.
But David was still in a weakened state and required months to mend, and his son would not return in time to make a difference.
Among the sea of corrupt officials, not a single one had the strength to ensure success.
Qingyi, however, was a peerless talent.
Even if he didn't follow the path of Auranys, he was the man who had bested the kingdom's greatest swordsman and decimated an entire army single-handedly.
There was no better candidate to lead.
Even without experience, his sheer power and the morale his presence provided would be enough to secure victory.
“Do you have any objections to this arrangement, son-in-law?” David inquired. “None, father-in-law. I shall deliver death to those who oppose you. Consider this my dowry for your daughter's hand,” Qingyi said, clasping his fists in a salute. “You have given me far too much already, young man. I am only falling deeper into your debt, hahaha!”
