Damon’s eyes snapped open, burning with irritation. While he could tolerate the woman’s annoying behavior toward himself, he refused to let her disrespect his women. Before he could take action, however, a pair of dark hands suddenly constricted around Georgina’s throat. "You may be my sister-in-law, but she is my sister. You should be more careful with your words and how you treat people. You are completely oblivious to the reality of the situation. You didn't complain when you were benefitting from Damon’s special perks and the gold coins he provided. Yet, the moment things become slightly inconvenient, your tongue starts wagging?"
As Georgina thrashed for air, Aurora abruptly released her grip. "If I ever hear you talking shit about my husband or anyone in this family again…" Aurora trailed off with a smile, but her eyes held a manic glint that forced Georgina into immediate silence. Shifting her demeanor instantly, Aurora turned toward Damon’s mother with an apologetic bow. "I am so sorry, mother. It was not my intention to be so disrespectful or speak so rudely in your presence."
Damon’s mother stood there, paralyzed, nodding with a bewildered expression. Although she had harbored suspicions about the various women surrounding her son, she never imagined they would all be living together in such a harmonious understanding.
A headache began to throb behind her temples. What was wrong with the youth of this generation? When she glanced at her son, Damon quickly averted his gaze, putting on a facade of pure innocence. His mother’s lip twitched in response. So much had transpired, and her son had kept her entirely in the dark!
Fortunately, Damon’s father intervened to save him. "Let’s not interfere in the business of the younger generation. Aurora, why don't you bring back something nice for your mother to cook after you finish your training?" He offered a warm smile.
The lethal aura surrounding Aurora vanished in a heartbeat, replaced by a wholesome, radiant grin that could deceive the gods themselves. "Of course, Father!" she chirped happily, acting as though she hadn't been threatening a life moments prior. "I'll make sure to bring back something exotic and delicious! Perhaps something with many legs! Or many eyes! Or maybe both!"
Both parents let out an uneasy laugh at her enthusiasm. "Thank you, dear," Damon’s father managed to say at last.
Observing how close Aurora was getting to the parents, Kate refused to be left behind. "I shall also bring something wonderful for you, mother," she added hastily.
Damon’s mother nodded, her awkward laughter continuing.
Then came Lirae. Due to her unique appearance, she projected an air that was far more imposing and formal. "Please grant me your blessing, mother and father. I shall also return with a suitable tribute."
Damon’s mother blinked in rapid succession. Tribute? Blessings? She was caught between feeling honored, baffled, and slightly terrified. In contrast, Damon’s father simply nodded with the calm resignation of a man who had long ago accepted the insanity of his children's lives.
"Ah… yes. A tribute would be fine," he replied softly, speaking as if trying not to spook a dangerous predator.
Lirae lowered her head with the intense gravity of a priestess receiving a holy command. "I will not fail you."
Still massaging her bruised neck, Georgina watched the three women in total shock. Was she the only sane person left who saw how crazy this was? John placed a hand on her shoulder, his eyes dull and lifeless, silently pleading with her to never speak again.
Meanwhile, Aurora had already moved back to Damon’s side, hugging his arm as if nothing had happened. "Hubby," she whispered with pride, "Mother and Father like me."
Damon’s mouth twitched. "You almost strangled my sister-in-law."
Aurora blinked with feigned innocence. "Only a little bit."
Kate nodded solemnly from the other side. "It was a necessary correction."
Lirae chimed in, "Weak mortals frequently fail to understand their superiors."
Damon wasn't particularly bothered by the exchange; he likely would have reacted similarly. His only regret was that his niece had to witness such a confrontation. And then there were his parents... His mother finally found her voice again. "Damon, you… You never mentioned…" She made a vague gesture toward the group of women. "Any of this."
Damon looked away once more. "The topic never came up."
His mother’s eye began to twitch uncontrollably.
Before the interrogation could continue, Damon’s father stepped in again to smooth things over. "Alright, everyone. The wilderness is a perilous place. Focus on your training and ensure you return safely."
Lirae stepped forward once more, bowing deeply. "I shall ensure your excellence is reflected in every kill, Mother. Father."
Her sheer sincerity only served to make the atmosphere more uncomfortable. Damon’s mother forced a strained smile. "Y-yes, dear. Thank you."
His father shot Damon a very pointed, subtle look that asked: Son… why are all your women like this? Damon acted as if he hadn't noticed.
"It's time for training! Let’s go hunt some monsters before dinner!" Aurora clapped her hands together and led Kate and Lirae away from the area.
Following the trio, Ellora, Kaelthorn, and Mallana departed for their own drills, dragging a very hesitant Riven along. "My skills would be much better utilized guarding my Lord…" Riven protested, though his complaints fell on deaf ears.
Next, Sylvara, Nevin, and the three blacksmiths departed as a group. Sylvara was already acquainted with them; it seemed the old ghost had instructed the blacksmiths to practice their combat skills as a change of pace from their usual forge work. They joined the others in the field.
As the crowd dispersed, the area finally grew quiet. Blood Wraith seized the opportunity to approach Damon. "Big bro, you’re a busy man these days!" He laughed as he walked over.
Damon could only offer a bitter smile.
"Bro, the way you locked down those cities by yourself was incredible. That was such a legendary move. How did your poison become so lethal? Bro, can you give me some tips? How can I become as powerful as you? The way you dominate everyone is just so heroic! Bro, can I join the Blood Domain too? I'm still in the Light Faction, but I can—"
Phoenix suddenly clamped her hand over her brother’s mouth and began dragging him away. "Please excuse my moron brother. We’ll be heading out now."
Damon nodded in understanding. He then turned his attention to Meira, who was standing silently by herself. "Would you like to go with them as well?" he suggested.
