Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure Chapter 1935: They couldn’t wait

Once we had uncovered the truth regarding the black dot, we found ourselves at a standstill.
Consequently, Dorothy was escorted back to the sanctuary fortified by divine energy.
While this was merely a temporary fix, it served its purpose for the time being.
We couldn't predict the consequences of trying to eliminate it again; provoking it might lead to disaster.
Furthermore, if her powers ever spiraled out of control, the divine energy was there to act as a buffer and restrain her.
"Now that I recognize this power as hers, I can find a way to manage it. I've suppressed her abilities before, and I can certainly do it once more," Max declared, his voice ringing with self-assurance.
More than simple confidence, however, his tone carried an edge of fascination, revealing his genuine excitement over the situation.
It was a classic trait of his personality; he was the type to become completely obsessed whenever a new mystery piqued his interest. He would stop at nothing to resolve the issue once he was hooked.
Since his obsession played right into our hands, I chose to remain silent.
Instead, I focused on experimenting to see if my own divine energy could offer any assistance.
If my power could help her keep the darkness at bay, that would be the ideal outcome...
"Intruders!"
Before I could make any progress, a sudden commotion erupted among the royal guards.
They immediately moved to shield me, yet I was well aware that I wasn't the intended prey.
If assassins were infiltrating our castle, their objective could only be one person.
I simply hadn't anticipated that our enemies would lose their composure and strike so quickly.
"Have reinforcements been dispatched to her location?" I questioned Klein, who was currently commanding the unit protecting me.
He paused for a brief moment before answering, "I have sent men..."
Although he had followed orders, his hesitation spoke volumes. I knew exactly why he was acting this way: the guards he had deployed were not the elite members of the force.
In all likelihood, he had sent the least capable recruits to watch over her.
I didn't voice my frustration, but I gave Klein a piercing glare to show my disapproval.
Klein, however, showed no signs of remorse for his decision.
Fundamentally, the royal guards existed solely to safeguard the royal bloodline.
Even though Rose and I had officially adopted Dorothy, the fact that she was an outsider by birth meant she wasn't truly seen as part of the royal family.
If even a leader like Klein felt such reluctance to protect her, it was obvious that the rest of the royal guards shared his sentiment.
"We are going there now."
Klein looked as if he wanted to protest, but the intensity in my eyes forced him to swallow his words.
Ultimately, he conceded, saying, "There are already highly skilled protectors stationed at her side."
I didn't argue because he was right, but I preferred not to take any chances.
Dorothy’s current importance was far greater than anyone realized. If her safety wasn't guaranteed, our entire future could be at risk.
Beyond that, I personally refused to let any harm befall her.
Ignoring Klein's unspoken disagreement, I hurried toward her quarters.
Upon reaching Dorothy’s room, the signs of a struggle were immediately apparent.
Splatters of blood were visible across the area, yet the royal guards on duty seemed completely unscathed. The spilled blood belonged entirely to the would-be killers.
The guards stood in a loose perimeter, looking surprisingly relaxed.
It appeared as though they were content to let something else handle the actual combat.
The sounds of a clash echoed from within the chamber, indicating the fight was still ongoing.
Just as I prepared to step inside...
"Your Majesty, please, allow us to take it from here," Klein suddenly interjected.
"If you intended to handle it, you should have acted much faster," I replied with a sharp, biting tone.
Klein maintained a stoic face as he moved forward, though the other guards exchanged telling glances. Their loyalty kept them quiet, but their disapproval was written all over their faces.
With Klein at the front, we entered the room where Dorothy was being held.
Corpse lay strewn across the floor, some with limbs violently torn away. One might assume a brutal, even-matched battle had taken place, but that wasn't the case.
The assassins had been utterly slaughtered.
Whoever was guarding Dorothy was a force that these intruders were never meant to face.
Even now, a swirling vortex of wind formed a protective barrier in the center of the room.
The few remaining assassins in dark garb were visibly struggling, and they immediately tried to flee the moment we arrived.
Unfortunately for them, there was nowhere to run.
The royal guards had already blocked every exit, sealing the room tight.
When one assassin attempted a desperate escape, he was met only with a blade through the heart.
He collapsed to the floor, joining the rest of his fallen comrades.
Realizing their fate was sealed, the survivors tried to take the coward's way out...
"Mmm!" Their mouths were quickly forced open and stuffed, preventing them from biting down on their poison.
Since they had dared to come here, we weren't about to let them die before we extracted every bit of information they possessed.
