Chiang Xiao and Meng Xinian shared a heated moment in the car, interrupted by Chen Yin's call, leaving her flushed and shy as she hurried out first. The group arrived at a picturesque mountain forest for a grilling outing, where Chiang Xiao and Wang Yi ventured ahead to explore, stumbling upon a serene lake with a small wooden boat that raised questions about other visitors. Back at the car, Meng Xinian and Chen Yin unpacked and set up the grill nearby, with Meng Xinian insisting on caution despite Chiang Xiao's formidable skills, treating her like a precious treasure.

Once Wang Yi wrapped up his private affairs, he stepped out of the forest alongside Chiang Xiao, cast a glance toward the lake, and inquired, "Do you want to head over for a closer inspection?"

Chiang Xiao pondered briefly before replying, "Sure, let's check it out. I don't often come across such stunning lake views, so we should seize the moment to enjoy it."

Back home, she could sketch several paintings from the memory.

This was one of the reasons they had ventured out in the first place.

She had planned, in this new life, to journey to many destinations and behold picturesque scenes from all corners, yet up to now, her only trip abroad had been to Country Y, where she spent most days at Mr. Wen Li’s residence, barely exploring the surroundings.

Thus, encountering this lovely vista now, she couldn't resist going nearer.

A boat floats there, likely belonging to someone from a nearby village.

Reaching the slope's crest, they glanced behind at Meng Xinian and Chen Yin, who were occupied with their tasks, and refrained from commenting further.

As the pair made their way down the incline toward the lake, the clarity of the water grew more evident, almost shimmering with a green hue. Lakeside wildflowers burst forth in vibrant hues, dancing gently with the wind, creating a captivating sight.

Even more remarkable, near the spot where the wooden boat was moored, lay a petite sandy stretch, featuring soft, pale grains.

"Doesn't this spot feel like a paradise on earth?" Wang Yi marveled. "Xiao Chiang, did you pack any sketch paper and colors? This scenery begs to be captured on canvas!"

"I'd rather purchase this land outright and construct a pair of quaint two-level white wood cottages. We could retreat here for short getaways to unwind."

Chiang Xiao's curiosity sparked as well, and she added, "If the lake teems with fish, it'd be perfect. We could hold fishing contests from time to time!"

"That sounds fantastic!" Wang Yi's gaze sparkled. "I'm curious if this property is available for purchase."

Chiang Xiao eyed the wooden boat and spotted, for the first time, a bundle of garments aboard—rough fabric in military green, along with a pair of simple cloth shoes.

She hastily tugged Wang Yi several paces away.

"Someone's in the lake."

Wang Yi jumped in surprise.

"Maybe they're swimming? Though the weather's still chilly..."

The water in the lake had to be icy as well, didn't it?

With a boat present, clearly someone was in the vicinity.

Earlier, they figured the owner had wandered off and would come back soon, but it hadn't crossed their minds that anyone would be submerged in the lake during such cool conditions.

Yet, as though confirming Wang Yi's speculation, a splash echoed, and a head surfaced from the depths close to the boat.

The individual brushed the droplets from their face and peered in their direction.

The complexion was a warm wheat shade, features sharp and distinct, eyes profoundly set, giving an air of mixed heritage.

Determining the exact age from a mere glance proved difficult.

Still, the bare shoulders and arms rising from the water revealed no clothing on the upper body.

Chiang Xiao swiftly pivoted to depart, pulling Wang Yi along.

"Hey! Ladies!"

The voice called out.

At the sound of the call, Chiang Xiao's frame shivered, and she spun around promptly.

By the time he yelled, the man had risen partially, his torso exposed; noticing their return glance, he ducked back down swiftly, keeping only his head visible above the surface.

"Are there any guys in your group? If yes, could you fetch one to lend a hand? I've hooked a large fish, but it's wedged in the rocks, and I can't free it alone. Bring help, and I'll share half the catch with you!"

Catching fish?

Chiang Xiao met his gaze, those intense eyes, inhaled deeply, and responded, "Yes, hold on a moment."

Wang Yi clutched her sleeve. "Xiao Chiang, are you serious about calling the others to assist with the fish?"

"I am."
