Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s Chapter 2363: 2299: Deep Within the Garden

Previously on Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s...
The Jiang family reels from the revelation that Sixth Young Master Jiang Shiheng has an eighteen-year-old daughter born after his accident, shattering the timeline of his planned marriage to Lu Shuangshuang at twenty-one. Lu Shuangshuang, trembling with shock, questions if he truly loved the child's mother, only for Jiang Shiheng to dismiss it as a fleeting accident, noting the woman has passed away. Old Master Jiang announces his intent to formally recognize the girl as his great-granddaughter by adding her to the family genealogy, changing her surname from her maternal grandfather's to Jiang, and allowing her to choose her own name from suggested options during a call, leaving the family stunned by his evident favoritism toward the absent child.

These mysteries baffled everyone to no end.

A tangled, hard-to-pin-down emotion stirred deep inside Lu Shuangshuang.

Soon after, Jiang Shiheng began identifying each member of the Jiang Family in turn. A few aligned with what he recalled, while others had transformed so drastically that he couldn't spot them right away.

Following that, Old Master Jiang led him personally to the courtyard in question.

The one belonging to their primary residence.

“In an hour, we'll hold the family feast. Everyone's getting ready at the moment, so why not catch a quick sleep? You've had such a hectic morning; you have to be worn out.”

Old Master Jiang let out a contented sigh.

Exhaustion aside, the effort had paid off handsomely.

Xiao Sixth was back at last.

“Grandpa, you ought to take a break yourself. I'm holding up okay. I figured I'd ring Little. She's likely been on pins and needles for that call all day long.”

Jiang Shiheng steadied him while strolling alongside Chen Baoshen, Chen Yiping, Cheng Cheng, and Sun Han down the garden's stone walkway.

Cheng Cheng and Sun Han quietly committed the path and surroundings to memory as they went.

The sheer magnificence of the Jiang family's garden left them both in awe.

Once through the grand entrance to the Jiang Family Main Wife’s section, a considerable distance remained, showing just how expansive this garden area truly was.

Spring has arrived; fresh sprouts are emerging, and blooms are unfurling everywhere. The sprawling garden bursts with splendor, drawing gasps of wonder now and then, though it's eerily still overall.

Without Jiang Yingqiong around and their parents long gone, this immense estate typically sheltered only Old Master Jiang plus a handful of servants, lending it an air of solitude.

Cheng Cheng trailed quietly, his mind drifting to Chiang Xiao amid every sight that passed.

Were that girl here, she'd have no reason to wander; she'd just plant her easel in place and lose herself for hours.

She likely had no clue the Jiang Family's grounds were this vast and stunning.

Yet Cheng Cheng remained unaware that Jiang Shiheng had already tasked Chiang Xiao with sketching a map of the Jiang family’s garden based on his recollections.

Even if the finer points weren't fully accurate or precise, she must have some sense of it.

Old Master Jiang replied, “Spot on; better call her without delay. We'll head there together. Your sister always straightens her own courtyard upon returning. Yours, though, Grandpa keeps folks maintaining it regularly. We've set it all up over these last days, including a phone right in your cozy study. Recall that little study of yours?”

During their chat, they reached a curved archway, stepping into a quaint courtyard flanked by green bamboo walls, with stone tables and chairs off to the side, and a petite pond to the right. A cluster of peculiarly shaped rocks sat close by, moss and tiny weeds peeking from the crevices, adding a touch of wild allure.

“Someone forgot to clear these weeds; I'll mention it to Old Liu sometime soon.”

Old Master Jiang frowned in irritation.

He'd only moments ago boasted about the upkeep, but this sight undermined his words.

Jiang Shiheng paused in surprise, “Uncle Liu, you mean?”

“That's him, the very Old Liu who's cared for this courtyard on your behalf all these years. He's gotten quite aged.”

“In that case, he didn't leave them on purpose,” Jiang Shiheng replied, his face lighting up with a gentle grin, “since Uncle Liu remembers how I enjoy the wild weeds among the rocks; it gives everything a more authentic vibe.”

A wave of fond reminiscence and quiet sorrow washed over him as he gazed at the rocks.

Those very stones were the ones he and she had hunted down together long ago.

Strangely, the stones endured, yet the one who shared them had vanished.

“Looks like I wronged Old Liu after all,” Old Master Jiang said, his smile returning at last.
