How could he possibly be standing if he had no bones!
Were they witnessing a supernatural event, or had everyone’s vision failed them at once?
Gao Ming was consumed by a mixture of intense agitation and fury, while his wife remained in a state of panic, her face drenched in tears.
"What has occurred? What exactly is going on?"
"Inject him with a sedative; we are transferring to another hospital to get to the bottom of this!" Gao Ming commanded, reaching an immediate decision.
The doctor broke into a cold sweat the moment he realized the patient was Gao Ming’s son. He felt a wave of immense relief upon hearing the order to transfer Gao Wei.
He wanted them to leave as quickly as possible; managing this inexplicable situation was becoming an impossible burden. If things weren't handled perfectly, he wouldn't be able to withstand the fallout.
The procedures for Gao Wei’s hospital transfer were finalized shortly thereafter. Following a sedative injection, Gao Wei drifted back into slumber.
In the adjacent room, Kuang Yunxian and Du Jinruo listened to the chaos in silence, remaining perfectly still.
They had intended to depart earlier, but after overhearing Gao Ming’s declarations, they chose to wait to avoid a direct confrontation at the exit.
Once the coast was clear, Du Jinruo assisted Kuang Yunxian as they made their way out of the medical facility.
"In your opinion, what happened to Gao Wei?" Du Jinruo couldn't resist asking.
Kuang Yunxian shook his head in uncertainty. "I am unsure myself. We have no idea what transpired after we departed. It is possible that Xiao Chiang wasn't the one who struck him."
Du Jinruo, however, remained convinced that Chiang Xiao was responsible.
Recalling Chiang Xiao’s earlier behavior, she couldn't imagine anyone else being behind it.
Still, the fact that Gao Wei had been driven to such a state of madness was truly baffling to them both.
For reasons she couldn't quite explain, she now felt a flicker of concern for Chiang Xiao’s well-being.
"Yunxian, do you believe Gao Ming will seek retribution against Chiang Xiao?"
Kuang Yunxian let out a heavy sigh.
While he shared those concerns, he understood that if Chiang Xiao had the courage to act, she must have prepared for the repercussions.
"We should go and inform her."
"Are you physically up for it?"
"Yes, I can manage."
"I am just uncertain if she will be at her residence."
"I am aware of her house's location; let’s just head there."
At that moment, Chiang Xiao was just departing from the teahouse. The quality of the tea and refreshments remained excellent, and since Gao Wei hadn't caused any disruptions that day, the establishment was thriving.
The interior was packed to capacity by the time she left.
Chiang Xiao walked home at a leisurely pace, carrying a bag of items.
She felt significantly better after venting her frustrations earlier that day. Seeing the teahouse business prospering brought her a great deal of peace.
During her walk back, Chiang Xiao took a detour to locate the house Luo Yongsheng had arranged. She wanted to ensure she knew exactly where to find someone should the need arise in the future.
She then authorized Luo Yongsheng to finalize the rental. Finding the environment suitable, she committed to a one-year lease.
They would be able to move in as soon as the place was tidied up and some essentials were gathered.
"Have Ding Haijing come over here."
Luo Yongsheng nodded in acknowledgment and headed toward the guest house.
Chiang Xiao, accompanied by Guan Tiezhu, returned toward the courtyard.
To her surprise, as she walked past Kuang Yunxian’s property, she noticed the courtyard gate was standing open.
Even though they had assisted Kuang Yunxian in reclaiming the house, he hadn't actually moved in yet, despite the place being cleaned. Chiang Xiao paused, staring at the open gate.
Du Jinruo stepped outside and, upon spotting her, spoke instinctively: "Chiang Xiao, you’ve finally returned?"
Chiang Xiao: "..."
What?
Why did this interaction feel so bizarre?
She and Du Jinruo had never been on friendly terms. While she never viewed Du Jinruo as a legitimate romantic rival—since there was no possibility of Meng Xinian having feelings for her—they had still clashed years ago because of Du Jinruo.
Well, to be fair, it was mostly just her being a troublemaker back then.
