"Yun Xian, we should change to a different hospital in a moment." Du Jinruo pulled her eyes away and spoke to Kuang Yunxian.
Since this was the closest medical facility, it was obvious those people had chosen it as well.
Gao Ming and his wife would undoubtedly rush here the moment the Gao Family received word. She had no desire to cross paths with them.
"In truth, our check-ups are finished. We can just collect the medicine and go; switching hospitals isn't really necessary," Kuang Yunxian replied. "I'm just concerned about how Xiao Chiang is faring right now."
"She ought to be alright, shouldn't she?" Du Jinruo reflected for a second. "Yun Xian, if the authorities ask us for a statement, we must maintain that we have no idea who attacked Gao Wei."
Kuang Yunxian found herself unable to suppress a grin.
"I was under the impression that you disliked Xiao Chiang?"
A look of slight embarrassment crossed Du Jinruo’s features. "I never claimed to like her now. My feelings haven't changed, but can't I be objective about my debts and grudges? She assisted you and secured your vengeance, and she also helped me release my frustration. I can recognize the difference."
"Fine, have it your way."
Du Jinruo offered a faint smile.
"I'll go handle the payment for the medication. Wait here for a bit."
Watching her walk away, Kuang Yunxian thought back to the pathetic state of Gao Wei and his group, and she couldn't help but chuckle again.
Gao Ming was stunned by the news and hurried to the hospital accompanied by his wife.
Upon entering, they discovered Gao Wei with his face wrapped in bandages and ice packs covering his eyes, prompting them to rush to his side in a panic.
"Ah Wei!"
"Xiao Wei! My dear son, what happened to you? Who did this?"
Gao Wei had been unconscious when he arrived, unaware of his surroundings. Hearing the voices calling him now, he drifted back to consciousness, feeling a heavy, painful sensation in his eyes that prevented him from opening them. The memory of that near-death feeling when Chiang Xiao struck his acupoints flooded back, causing him to suddenly thrash his arms and yell at the top of his lungs.
"I'm dying! Dad! Help me! I'm going to die!"
Aside from the injuries to his eyes, nose, and mouth, his body was actually unharmed. However, Gao Wei was consumed by terror; the previous sensation had been so overwhelming that it left a permanent mark on his mind, making him feel as though his entire frame was limp and paralyzed.
The ice packs tumbled from his eyes, yet he was too afraid to open them, screaming until his voice turned hoarse.
"I'm dying! I can't move! Dad, my whole body is paralyzed! Dad, save me!"
Gao Wei continued to shriek, his hands swinging wildly without control.
Medical staff rushed over, working quickly to hold him down.
Gao Ming was both horrified and enraged.
"What is the meaning of this? Doctor, I am Gao Ming! This is my son. Have you performed a complete check-up?"
The doctor was already breaking out in a sweat.
"Gao, Alliance Officer Gao, your son has been examined. His eyes and nose suffered heavy impacts, but the injuries aren't critical. To clarify, while it looks gruesome, it is mostly swelling that will fade in a few days. His jaw was also hit, causing him to bite his tongue and bleed, so he must be cautious while eating. Other than that, there are no major issues."
As the doctor finished, Gao Wei struggled harder and wailed, "I'm dying! Dad, I'm paralyzed from the neck down! I can't move my hands, I can't lift my head, my bones have turned to jelly!"
Everyone present stared at him, dumbfounded.
He was practically falling off the bed, requiring several doctors and nurses just to keep him pinned down. Was this what he considered being paralyzed? Was this his definition of being unable to move his hands or lift his head?
