Having already struck his wife, he was well aware of how ill-mannered and spiteful she could be. He addressed her calmly:
"I will deal with his punishment later. For now, why don't you go and receive treatment first?"
"NO! He must be punished this instant! Look at the severe injuries he inflicted on me," she shrieked. "What will the public think if they find out about this? Just execute this bastard; we can easily find another man for that bli—cough, Teresa," she suggested viciously.
"Sigh. All of you, disperse. This is merely a trivial matter," Sir Giant commanded the guards, waving them away.
"Nobody is permitted to leave! Everyone must witness the consequences of attacking the monarch's wife within her own home! Shen, why do you hesitate? He is nothing but a stranger!" Sakshi’s rage intensified. She had expected Vritra to be thrashed the moment the reinforcements arrived, yet no one was taking her side.
"Fine, spare his life, but let me strike him back so we are even," she offered as a compromise, thinking that would suffice.
"Do not even consider it. He is our guest," Sir Giant said, shaking his head. "How would it look if my grandson-in-law were assaulted on our own soil?" He knew she must have provoked the situation somehow.
However, knowing Sakshi, she was unlikely to let the grievance go easily.
"Ugh! What about my dignity? My reputation? Are you truly doing nothing? At the very least, force him to apologize..." The slender woman’s fury grew by the second. Never before had her own family treated her with such disregard.
"Mother, just go. I am certain you must have said something offensive regarding Aunty. Guards, please escort my mother gently to her quarters and find someone to seal her mout—I mean, heal her," Rich interjected, signaling the guards.
Both Rich and Teresa were the pillars behind the family's sudden rise. Rich was a commercial prodigy, possessing personal wealth that surpassed the other four families combined.
Meanwhile, Teresa had contributed through the use of all her treasures.
Though Rich rarely meddled in family politics, he found his mother's conduct utterly distasteful.
"Rich!! How dare you speak to your own mother that way? Regardless of anything else, he struck me! Shouldn't he at least offer an apology?" Sakshi screamed.
"Enough, leave at once!" Shen roared. Vritra had slapped him as well; there was nothing he could realistically say.
"B-But..." Sakshi attempted to protest, but seeing no support, she turned to her final card.
"Shen, if you don't force an apology out of him now, then..." She signaled him with a meaningful look, as if invoking a secret leverage.
"Ugh." Shen winced. Sir Giant and Rich turned their backs and departed, leaving Shen to manage the mess.
The monarch of the Ford family stood in silence for a moment, torn between two agonizing options.
"Um, B-Brother-in-law, could you perhaps offer a quick apology to her?" he requested tentatively.
"No. Stop wasting my time and drag this bitch away. Haa, I feel like my eyes have been contaminated just by looking at her. I need to go look at Tess to recover," Vritra stated flatly.
She was undoubtedly the most irritating woman he had ever encountered.
She had officially earned a spot on his personal list, right alongside names like Oracle.
The longer he stared at her face, the more his irritation spiked.
With a mere thought, he caused the bones near her knee to snap. Her leg buckled backward, sending her crashing forward.
Her face slammed violently into the floor. If her nose hadn't been shattered before, it certainly was now.
"Uwaaaaah!" Vritra watched the display with satisfaction for a few seconds before the guards finally hauled her away.
"I—I apologize on her behalf—" Shen began to speak, but Vritra simply waved him off.
"Get lost. I have no patience for your family's drama." He retreated into the room and slammed the door shut with a resounding bang.
'Sigh... wasn't he supposed to be quite timid? And how did her leg just break? He didn't move an inch, nor did I sense any mana use,' Shen mused as he walked away, ordering the area to be cleaned.
Inside, Teresa was still standing nervously. Aware of Sakshi’s cruel nature, she had been terrified for Vritra.
However, the events outside had left her stunned.
Vritra walked back toward her and caught her gaze.
"Has she always behaved this way?" he inquired, bypassing the more obvious questions.
"...Yes. My brother was pressured into that marriage because her father once aided us, and Grandpa gave his word to repay the debt," Teresa explained, beginning to unwind slightly.
Engaging in a normal conversation felt surreal to her. Usually, she and her family had to be extremely cautious to avoid any confrontation.
"Oh? Don't tell me she tried to force you to absorb her bad fate?" Vritra asked with dramatic flair.
"No, she didn't. My brother and Grandpa ensured she never even set foot in my room," Teresa added.
"That is fortunate. So she only tormented you with insults, curses, and indirect harassment?" Vritra remarked casually, knowing exactly how to draw the truth from her.
Usually, the kind-hearted Teresa wouldn't have spoken up, as she hated seeing anyone suffer or feel unhappy.
"Yeah..." she whispered, nodding without thinking much of it.
'So that bitch really did make Tess suffer. I'll make sure her life becomes a waking nightmare,' he vowed internally.
"I see. Go take a bath; we'll be departing shortly," Vritra said, gently patting her head.
Teresa nodded and moved away.
Before long, Vritra, Gunter, Ava, Rich, and the others were gathered in the dining hall.
A meal was served, and for a time, the group ate in silence. Sakshi was present as well, her leg and head already restored by healing.
Teresa remained in her room, as it was deemed too risky for her to appear in such an open setting.
"I apologize for our earlier failings and any disrespect shown. Now that our families are united, we will stand by you should you encounter any future difficulties," Shen spoke cordially as the meal concluded.
"Haha. Indeed, mutual support is only natural. We appreciate the hospitality," Gunter answered. He had originally been bitter about his son being coerced into this union.
Now, however, his guilt had vanished, especially seeing that Vritra seemed to genuinely like the girl.
Yet, considering her true identity, he knew this union would be far from ordinary.
Her secret was out. Many would likely attempt to kidnap or kill her—and even before that, would the Ford family truly permit her to leave?
"Brother-in-law, you are welcome to stay here from no—" Shen was interrupted as Vritra, who was poking at his empty plate with a fork, "accidentally" applied too much strength.
The fork slipped from his grip and flew across the table, landing directly inside Sakshi’s open mouth just as she was about to take a large bite of food.
COUGH!
The tines pierced deep into her throat, severing her uvula.
Her jaw hung open, eyes bulging in terror as a massive wave of agony hit her. She began to choke, spitting up blood as her body fell into wild spasms.
"Oops, my bad," Vritra remarked, acting as if he had merely dropped a spoon.
The room froze in shock for several heartbeats as the woman continued to convulse.
Finally, they snapped out of it and rushed her away for emergency medical care.
