In the meantime, Ron sitting beside Sarah found himself gripped by anxiety.
He'd anticipated potential issues ever since Oliver suggested bringing his mother, Maya, along, and with the pair now exchanging icy glares, it was evident that matters would escalate rapidly.
Yet, spotting Oliver grasping Emma's hand and seating her upon his lap, Ron swallowed hard and directed his eyes toward Maya.
'Damn! What's her next move going to be?'
Meanwhile, Brenda observed the concerned look on her mother Linda's face. She rolled her eyes and shook her head in exasperation. 'Who advised you to behave like a jealous girlfriend? See where that's gotten you!'
All present were immersed in their personal reflections and eager suspense over impending events.
Oliver, with Emma perched on his lap, paid no heed to the surrounding tension, relishing the gentle wriggling of her soft rear against him.
Before long, Maya's patience wore thin; she shot Oliver a fierce glare and snapped sharply, "What is this!? You invite me here and then disregard me completely!? Do I mean nothing to you!?"
Linda, seated beside Maya, displayed a frown of irritation. "See how folks transform once they surround themselves with more ladies... Now we're treated as if we don't exist."
Rebecca remained puzzled by the unfolding drama, yet the room fell silent following Maya and Linda's outbursts.
She and everyone else fixed their gazes on Oliver, curious about his response.
After sipping some water and setting the glass aside, Oliver addressed Maya in a relaxed voice, "Hmmm, I've changed? Perhaps... but that doesn't justify someone with an existing partner heading out for drinks and parties nightly, does it?"
He then shifted to face Linda, continuing in the same laid-back manner, "The same applies to a lady attempting to portray me as a betrayer merely because I didn't devote enough focus to her."
Having spoken, Oliver encircled Emma with his arm, drawing her nearer. "Understand, I prefer women free of jealousy, capable of managing their emotions without fretting over unknowns."
"So, tell me, my dear teacher, will you prove to be such a woman, or merely another troublesome drama creator?" He tacked on playfully, yet his tone betrayed underlying seriousness.
Emma beamed, leaning her head his way, her lips grazing his neck. "Naturally, I'm not like those foolish women who rage over trivial matters... provided you hold me close like this or continue showering me with cash, feel free to overlook me and toy with me as you please..."
Oliver laughed lightly at Emma's reply, lifting his hand to sweep her hair back, then tracing his tongue along her ear before murmuring, "Indeed, you're the ideal type of woman to keep nearby... not like certain others who paint me as the bad guy."
Maya and Linda stood stunned, taken aback by Oliver's curt dismissal of them.
Since their previous encounter, Maya had anticipated an apology and efforts to win her favor once more, yet the reality proved entirely different.
She found herself at a loss for words or actions right then.
Linda appeared equally caught off guard, as Oliver now ignored her completely, devoting himself solely to the attractive educator.
Pale-faced, Linda and Maya exchanged helpless glances, each wishing the other could intervene.
Unfortunately, shock rendered them both speechless and immobile.
In time, tears welled in their eyes, and their lips trembled as they fought back sobs.
Naturally, Oliver took notice of this.
Observing the pair of stunning women teetering on the edge of tears, he sighed and relaxed his hold on Emma.
He rose from his seat and strode toward them with assured strides.
Positioning himself directly before them, he rested his hand on Maya's cheek, stroking it softly.
The instant Oliver's fingers met her skin, Maya shut her eyes, savoring the gentle heat and care from his touch.
Linda experienced something parallel; her breathing faltered as Oliver's free hand lifted her chin, guiding her gaze to meet his.
"You two... why push my buttons so fiercely? Wasn't it clear I didn't mean to overlook you? Still, you responded that way... Truthfully, a simple embrace and request for forgiveness upon my arrival would have spared those words... But no, you complicated it. Now you're on the brink of tears... Come on!"
Thus, Oliver drew the women in tighter, draping an arm over each shoulder.
"Rather than complicating things for me and yourselves, why not express your emotions openly and truthfully... Isn't that far easier?"
Listening to Oliver, Maya and Linda's faces flushed with heat.
They recognized the validity in his words, acknowledging their role in escalating the situation.
A warm welcome without incident would have sufficed, but their initial anger and aloofness prompted his counter.
"I- I'm... sorry." Maya murmured softly, averting her eyes in lingering shame over her behavior.
Linda shared the sentiment, though she compelled herself to meet Oliver's eyes. "Me as well, Oliver. We erred... and we're sorry."
"Hmmm..." Oliver's grin broadened as he tugged them nearer still, pressing their bosoms to his chest. "Now this feels right."
Next, he planted kisses on Maya’s and Linda’s cheeks in turn, then murmured tenderly, "Naturally, I'm sorry for my words and for vanishing on you both. It wasn't deliberate, okay? Circumstances just led there... Let's put this behind us, yeah? The night ahead promises enjoyment!"
"Yes..." They chorused, clinging to Oliver firmly, each pressing a kiss to his cheeks before whispering affectionately, "Thank you."
