My Talent's Name Is Generator Chapter 778 Another Base Down [Bonus Release]

Previously on My Talent's Name Is Generator...
The group emerged from the portal onto a lifeless planet, concealed by spatial ripples, overlooking a massive basin carved into the surface and dominated by a colossal tower wreathed in deathmist. The base teemed with millions of abominations and phantoms, including dozens of Transcendents and one upper Transcendent, its lower levels administrative with portal gates and upper tiers dedicated to training. As the protagonist assessed the infrastructure, North and Steve launched their assault, Steve unleashing lightning and shadows to carve through the horde while North's wind-enhanced blades created zones of swift annihilation. The base stirred in response, runes igniting and deathmist surging, as Grandmasters descended and the upper Transcendent's presence unfolded from the tower.

I let out a scoff and emerged from the folded space.

My aura spread out freely without any limits. The oppressive force struck immediately, causing the upper Transcendent's presence to crumble like a flame snuffed by a gust. Right then, I had closed the distance to him, my fingers clamped firmly on his neck, hoisting him up so his toes dangled helplessly in the empty air.

"No need for your involvement," I stated coolly, my hold unyielding. "Let's discuss matters first. It'll make things smoother for everyone."

Knight sprang into action the second I moved.

Darkness erupted from his body, extending and dividing into sharp, whip-like shadows that lashed out. He targeted each of the other Transcendents in turn, dragging them into fierce melee where their teamwork shattered and their edges faded away.

The specter I held finally uttered words, his tone warped yet composed. "Why are you here?"

I cocked my head a bit, examining him closely.

"You know who I am," I remarked with a subtle grin. "Excellent. That cuts down on explanations."

Motion caught my eye from the tower. Betrayers from various races, those infiltrated deep into the facility's core, surged from concealed tunnels now that they saw the tide turning against them. Their goal was clear.

The portal gates.

I prevented their approach.

Lifting a single finger, I drew a straightforward stroke across the sky. Essence gathered in a flash, launching a chilling surge that split into four paths while airborne. Each hit a portal gate squarely, bursting into expansive, icy barriers. The frames turned to solid ice instantly, with spatial runes locked in place under heavy, impenetrable layers of frost.

All escapes were blocked.

Turning back to the specter, who still writhed feebly in my grasp.

"Now," I declared steadily, "we hold off until the rest wrap up."

It wasn't much time.

Knight required only about two minutes to dispatch the leftover Transcendents. One shadow devoured another, his extensions stabbing, ensnaring, and ultimately devouring the specters until an eerie hush settled over the base. Down below, Steve and North continued slicing through the Grandmaster-level monstrosities, their forms cutting the swarm like scythes through wheat.

Knight returned to my position in a blur.

"I can keep him secured for you," he offered, a smirk playing on his lips.

"Sure," I answered with a light laugh. "Appreciate the assist."

I loosened my hold.

Before the specter could fall, Knight's tail whipped out, wrapping around his throat with precise ease, raising him just high enough to maintain restraint without ending him.

Knight eyed the chaos below. "How far have they advanced in levels?"

"Steve's hit 311," I noted, gaze fixed on the battle. "North's at 314. Once they clear this out, I figure they'll both climb into the 330s."

He murmured in consideration. "So, between the two, who's got the edge in power?"

I hesitated.

My senses extended, probing into their forms—not just surface level, but delving into Essence circulation, law harmony, muscular reactions, response speeds. I delved even deeper, urging my Psynapse to estimate their exact stats.

This sparked some reflection.

Essence surged at my command, and two see-through status displays materialized in the space before us. Their names appeared at the top, then rows of details followed.

Steve:

Attributes:

 - Strength: Alpha(1800)

 - Constitution: Alpha(1600)

 - Dexterity: Alpha(1900)

 - Psynapse: Alpha(1700)

 - Essence: A+

North:

Attributes:

 - Strength: Alpha(1900)

 - Constitution: Alpha(1700)

 - Dexterity: Alpha+(2000)

 - Psynapse: Alpha(1800)

 - Essence: A+

"Your thoughts?" I asked, looking at Knight. "It's an estimate, but accurate enough."

He bent forward a touch, reviewing the displays. "Hmm. From this, North seems slightly ahead."

I shook my head gradually. "Not quite. Pure numbers miss the bigger picture. Laws count equally, often outweighing them. Steve's laws surge more intensely when pushed. North's build up steadily over duration." I stopped, observing the figures lock in. "In total, they're neck and neck. Distinct styles. Comparable dangers."

The skirmish below stretched another ten minutes. With levels rising, the shifts were plain even sans the screens. Steve's lightning thickened, his shadows honed finer, each blade stroke packing greater force than before. North accelerated per clash, her blows purer, her aura etching the field with silent certainty.

When they concluded, no abomination remained upright.

As the final twisted corpse disintegrated, my stare dwelled on the debris a beat too long. The area lay still, yet an unease nagged at me.

The souls.

Despite Transcendence and all I'd absorbed, taken, and hammered into knowledge, the Eternals' method for seizing souls so thoroughly and reliably eluded my full comprehension.

This evoked the Chained Fallen's proposal, regarding the whereabouts of my parents' souls.

Steve and North touched down next to us shortly after, their energies still turbulent from the fray.

"All clear up here?" North inquired as her weapons faded into specks of breeze and glow.

I inclined my head. "Mostly. One matter remains." I faced the specter suspended by Knight's tail. "Details."

I locked eyes with it steadily. "Tell us where these portals connect. All destinations you're aware of. And your base's position, if you can."

The specter jerked once, then let out a chuckle.

The noise swelled, rougher, until it erupted into outright guffaws. Deathmist roiled fiercely around it, densifying, twisting as if possessed of life.

I breathed out deliberately. "Figured as much."

In the following moment, its form burst open.

Yet prior to the blast dispersing, I lifted my hand. The Star of Origin throbbed once, drawing every wisp of deathmist inward, absorbing it wholly without trace.

Quietness reclaimed the space.

"Well," Knight remarked flatly, pulling back his tail, "that achieved nothing."

"Not quite," I countered, eyes turning to the frozen shapes by the tower doors. "We have folks who truly dread death."

North eyed me. "Incidentally… did the System issue you another quest?"

I shook my head. "It did for me. Steve got one too," she added.

"Really?" I arched a brow. "What's the content?"

Steve lifted his shoulders. "Basic fare. Raze the base, wipe out specters and abominations, routine tasks. Merit points for rewards."

I brushed it off with a gesture. The System's demands grew ever less relevant lately.

With a mental nudge, I called forth the remainder of my team.

I instructed them firmly. "Extract it all. Portal paths, hierarchy, networks, whatever intel they hold."

My stare intensified as it roamed the tower. "Question the infiltrators. Comb the structure. Deliver results."

They sprang to work without delay.

I hovered over the emptied crater, observing the efforts below, my mind wandering to souls, to deathmist.

Before long, additional fragments would come. In particular, the Hollow Star excels at retaining data.

And with them, the mosaic would cease to feel fragmented.
