My Talent's Name Is Generator Chapter 684: Absolute Elemental Shift
Previously on My Talent's Name Is Generator...
"We have arrived," I announced at last.
My gaze stayed locked on the desolate void ahead, though I was aware it was far from empty. As our vessel drifted forward, I signaled a halt with a raised hand. The brakes engaged, Essence surged through the ship's frame, and with a deep mechanical groan, we came to a dead stop in the middle of space.
"What do you see?" Primus inquired.
"An invisible barricade lies directly in our path," I answered. "Its exact nature is unknown to me, and I refuse to let us cross it without caution."
They gave a simple nod of agreement.
Stepping off the deck, I vanished and materialized immediately in front of the hidden wall.
From this distance, the sight was staggering.
To the naked eye, the surface was perfectly clear, yet through my perception, it pulsed with life. Countless runes flickered in a tireless dance, weaving together and breaking apart in ever-changing sequences. They saturated every inch of the shield, layered so thick that the beginning and end of each chain were indistinguishable.
My eyes drifted shut.
I pushed the Right to Insight to its absolute limit.
Instead of words, the runes began to translate their purpose as raw intent. One by one, the barrier's functions were laid bare.
Essence detection.
Any entity possessing an active Essence signature would be flagged the moment it touched the boundary.
Metal detection.
This wasn't a simple scan for minerals, but a specialized recognition of forged artifacts, weapons, armor, and artificial war machines.
Law fluctuation detection.
Even hidden laws, active domains, or unstable law frameworks would be identified if they caused the slightest ripple in the baseline reality.
Space fluctuation detection.
Traces of teleportation. Folded dimensions. Stealthy movements. It caught any attempt to bypass the wall rather than passing through it.
Life Signature detection. Time fluctuation detection. Elemental distortion.
And finally—
Deathmist detection.
The identification of any lingering deathmist.
I slowly opened my eyes.
This perimeter wasn't designed to stop an invasion. It was built to ensure that nothing could slip through without being documented.
My admiration for the architect grew as I inspected the work. Whoever forged this barrier possessed immense skill. The runic layers were precise, sophisticated, and possessed a certain brutal elegance. This was no work of a common expert.
It was the work of a Saint, at the very least.
This realization presented a significant hurdle.
I lacked the necessary skill to bypass this wall undetected, whether I was on this ship or alone. Abandoning the vessel to enter on foot wouldn't solve the issue. The spatial sensors woven into the barrier were sharp enough to snare even me, regardless of Knight’s help in masking my presence.
There were no clever tricks to be played here.
Only a single path remained.
We would enter through the front door. Openly.
I weighed the consequences for a moment before accepting them. It was never our intent to stay in the shadows forever. If anything, allowing our reputation to grow now might be more beneficial for our future goals.
Having made my choice, I turned and flashed back onto the ship.
I gave the others a concise explanation of the wall's capabilities.
"So, the element of surprise is gone," Steve remarked, his face falling with disappointment.
"Our own forces will know we are coming," I said with a calm tone, "but to the Eternals and those they command, our arrival will still be a shock."
Steve clicked his tongue but offered no further rebuttal.
"This also implies we'll be interrogated before they permit us anywhere near the front lines," Primus noted, rubbing his temples in anticipation of the headache.
I tapped my foot against the deck, lost in thought.
Then, a smile touched my lips.
"Primus," I began, "why not have Dravon assist us in bypassing the red tape?"
Primus arched an eyebrow. "Dravon? You mean the demon sent to discipline me for defying the Demon Monarch?"
"The very same," I nodded. "I have a good feeling about the man. I'll have Aurora talk us up. I'm certain he will facilitate our involvement."
Primus hesitated, then gave a shrug as a small smile appeared. "Very well. We shall claim he is the one who requested our aid."
I let out a soft chuckle. "Excellent. It is decided then."
I looked over the group. "You have ten minutes. Prepare yourselves. We reconvene here, and then we cross the threshold."
They nodded in unison and dispersed toward their personal quarters.
I went into my room and shut the door.
Set out neatly upon the bed were folded black robes, adorned with an emblem of interlocking gears and a white mask.
First, I summoned Aurora.
A bright crimson circle manifested in the air, and she stepped through with her habitual vibrant grin.
"Well?" she asked instantly, her voice brimming with anticipation. "Have you tested the new trait yet?"
I fought the urge to roll my eyes.
"Aurora, we are still in transit to the rift," I answered. "I haven't exactly found the opportunity to conduct proper testing."
Even as I spoke, I held up my palm to inspect it.
Right before my eyes, the flesh began to disintegrate.
Skin, muscle, and bone dissolved into dancing arcs of lightning, dispersing without a hint of pain. Below my wrist, nothing solid remained—only crackling, unstable elemental energy. It appeared as though my hand had been severed and replaced by pure lightning.
No blood spilled as the gap formed. This was the trait I had claimed from Aurora through Trait Acquisition.
I lowered my arm and let the electricity recede, allowing the flesh to pull itself back together in a controlled, fluid motion.
The trait was known as Absolute Elemental Shift (Mutated).
This ability allowed my physical form to be temporarily discarded in favor of an elemental state. Once the transition began, flesh, blood, and bone became irrelevant. For Aurora, this change was restricted to lightning, as her body became pure electrical essence.
My version was different.
The mutation had struck away those limits.
I wasn't confined to any single element. Fire, lightning, wind, ice—any element I had comprehended could serve as my physical vessel. I could shift entirely or just change specific limbs, flowing between different elements without losing my sense of self. Any damage sustained while shifted would reflect on my physical body, but reforming caused no harm as long as I maintained focus.
"That's a letdown," she muttered, her face falling. "I expected you to be more thrilled about this. Compared to the traits you got from the other summons, mine is clearly superior."
"I am excited, believe me," I assured her. "I plan to use it to its full potential." I paused, then added, "Regardless, I summoned you because I require your assistance."
