My Longevity Simulation Chapter 1091: Mister Desires to Save the World
Previously on My Longevity Simulation...
After a brief moment of reflection, Li Fan opted against further hesitation. He nodded and responded: "Indeed. How did you figure that out, Fellow Daoist?"
In his somewhat deep tone, Xu Ke let out a light chuckle as he answered: "For a figure opposed to the entire world, where else in the Xuanhuang Realm could details about me possibly reside except in the Fallen Immortal Realm?"
Li Fan felt a slight jolt of surprise: "Opposed to the entire world? What exactly do you mean?"
Now Xu Ke appeared genuinely confused: "You don't know what I'm guarding?"
Li Fan shook his head openly.
"Then what brought you to seek me out?" Xu Ke fixed his gaze on Li Fan, his face showing no clear emotion.
"I came to you, Fellow Daoist, firstly to aid the remnants of the empire and grant their deepest desire."
"Secondly, to uncover the various safeguards Mr. Bai established in the past. Upon discovering his actions, I was profoundly touched by his sense of justice. Yet the details I gathered from the Fallen Immortal Realm were fragmented, mere snippets of memories from various eras. Thus, it demanded great effort to track down your seclusion. I hoped you might shed light on these matters for me." Li Fan clasped his hands together, his words earnest and true.
Hearing Li Fan's regard for Mr. Bai, Xu Ke's demeanor eased noticeably.
"The empire?" His eyes narrowed slightly, as though delving into old recollections.
"It's the inheritance you established in the realm where Red Nine-Headed perished." Li Fan gently prompted.
"Ah..." Xu Ke at last remembered.
"Xiao Qing, Xiao Hong..." A nostalgic look crossed his face.
"They're both still living. However, that Heavenly Fate Black Bird met its end while trying to locate you." As Li Fan explained, he passed over an object.
It was the final Black Bird feather that Xiao Hei had left behind in the Beast Realm.
Xu Ke accepted the dark feather, his fingers quivering faintly. A flicker of grief appeared in his gaze. After what seemed like ages, he murmured softly: "I've failed you."
"Can I keep this?" Xu Ke inquired.
"It's simply restoring it to its rightful keeper. If Xiao Hei learned that the Black Bird feather he abandoned could at last reach you, he would find solace in death." Li Fan let out a quiet sigh.
"My gratitude." Xu Ke carefully placed the Black Bird feather inside his robes with reverence.
Upon the lofty stone peak, an utter quiet once more surrounded them completely.
At the height of this barren landscape, even the breeze appeared to vanish.
Nothing but the timeless, unyielding hush from antiquity lingered on.
Li Fan showed no haste. He merely stayed by Xu Ke's side amid this profound emptiness, enduring with steady patience.
After an extended period, Xu Ke broke the silence once more.
Thanks to the impact of those prior revelations, his view of Li Fan had shifted profoundly.
"What have you uncovered up to now?" Xu Ke questioned.
"In those days, you and Xiao Hei journeyed distant to the Nanming Sacred Beast Mountain. Actually, it stemmed from a mission Mr. Bai gave to the Beast Taming Sect. The chain of events that followed aimed ultimately to breed the Rift Whales, beings of endless reproduction and space-tearing might. This was intended to relocate the common folk from the scattered small worlds, displaced by the emergence of the Immortal-mortal Miasma, as distant as possible from the Xuanhuang."
"And that Immortal-mortal Miasma itself arose from Mr. Bai's defiance of fate's decree. As the supreme Great Celestial Venerable of Xuanhuang, he chose to end his existence because of it."
...
Li Fan spoke deliberately, phrase by phrase, gradually sharing the insights he had assembled from the Fallen Immortal Realm and the actual realm.
"You've gathered substantial knowledge."
"You've given this real consideration."
"In this era, how many still hold Mr. Bai in memory?" To Li Fan's astonishment, Xu Ke offered a deep bow, conveying his heartfelt admiration.
"Yet numerous questions plague me, matters I can't release. I beseech you, Fellow Daoist, to illuminate them. Without your guidance, I dread sleepless nights and endless unrest ahead." Li Fan declared gravely.
"As the Xuanhuang Celestial Venerable, Mr. Bai wielded the mightiest strength in the Xuanhuang Realm during that age. Why opt for self-sacrifice and unleash the Immortal-Mortal Miasma to shield the ordinary people?"
"Was the Immortal-Mortal Miasma truly beneficial? Had the Xuanhuang Realm never borne the Immortal-Mortal Miasma at all, how might events have progressed?" Xu Ke countered with his own query.
Li Fan mulled it over briefly before replying measuredly: "Absent the Immortal-Mortal Miasma, the Great Calamity of Incompatible Cultivation Technique would persist. Ultimately, the cultivators would descend into distrust and carnage, hitting a point of utter despair. Through that turmoil..."
"When the city walls burn, the pond's fish endure the flames. In the ruins of shattered cultivation paths, where could the mortals seek refuge? Surviving one in ten thousand would count as luck. Contracting the Immortal-Mortal Miasma and being compelled to flee to minor realms: though countless perish en route, against the doom awaiting them in the Xuanhuang Realm, it's scarcely worth mention." Xu Ke completed Li Fan's line of reasoning.
Li Fan nodded deliberately, signaling his accord.
"Thus, Mr. Bai perceived the Xuanhuang Realm's destiny across the coming millennia from the calamity's dawn?" Li Fan pressed further.
"For Mr. Bai, such foresight posed no challenge." Xu Ke affirmed plainly.
"If so..." Li Fan's voice and look shifted suddenly.
"The Great Calamity of Incompatible Cultivation sprang solely from the Dharma-Transmitting Immortal Ancestor disseminating the innovative technique. Eliminate that source of woe, and perhaps salvation remains within reach! Why then did Mr. Bai yield ground without resistance?"
"He forsook his very life, yet shunned confrontation with the Immortal Ancestor?" Bitterness thickened Li Fan's tone.
"The immortal road stretches before us, untouchable, for the Dharma-Transmitting Immortal Ancestor blocks the way." Following a pause, Xu Ke whispered Mr. Bai's past words of regret.
He continued: "Setting aside if Mr. Bai could even rival the Immortal Ancestor, who had triumphed over the laws by then."
"In Mr. Bai's calculations, even destroying the Immortal Ancestor failed to avert the calamity's grip on the Xuanhuang Realm."
"Have you beheld the beast species oddity in Ningyuan City's hidden chamber: that man-dog abomination?"
"I have."
"That creature bore a human body with dog-like legs. Mr. Bai once sought to mend their forms. He collected fitting human appendages, planning to excise the canine ones and graft human replacements."
"Yet since the dog limbs had merged seamlessly with their frames over time, Mr. Bai's repeated efforts all ended in defeat."
"Many expired outright amid the procedure. Even apparent successes rarely lasted beyond a month. They withered away horribly from the savage depletion of vitality."
"Regardless of Mr. Bai's methods, the result stayed fixed."
Xu Ke recounted steadily.
Comprehension dawned gradually on Li Fan.
"So the Xuanhuang Realm mirrors that plight?"
Xu Ke exhaled deeply: "What has poured out cannot be gathered back."
"The alterations the Immortal Ancestor wrought upon the Xuanhuang Realm have solidified."
"Undoing them would demand exertion ten times greater, a hundred times, or beyond."
