My Celestial Ascension Chapter 914: A Disturbing News

Previously on My Celestial Ascension...
Emperor Rhex disclosed the escalating crisis to Yuan: over a million undead, commanded by the formidable Undead King, advance relentlessly toward the Demonic Empire's border, slaughtering and converting every living being to bolster their ranks. The empire's meager force of 100,000 soldiers stands no chance against their inexhaustible numbers, vulnerable only to fire, with arrival expected in two weeks; warnings have been issued to citizens and other nations via Nerith's diplomatic mission. Yuan countered with a bold proposition—future military aid from the empire for his assault on the divine realm in exchange for assistance against the undead—prompting Rhex's initial shock before reluctant acceptance.

Across numerous regions of the Demon Empire, proclamations rang out to alert and caution the populace about the unfolding crisis and the grave threat suspended above them.

Emperor Rhex commanded his ministers outright to withhold nothing from the citizens, cautioning that such concealment might spark far worse issues than they could manage in the midst of wartime turmoil.

The citizens started to fret and grow anxious over their very lives the moment the proclamation reached their ears. Initially, plenty dismissed it as false, yet upon learning it stemmed directly from the Demon Emperor's decree, they slowly accepted that this was no mere prank.

"T-The Undead King and his massive army are currently marching toward the border?!?!"

"T-This is impossible... why would the undead suddenly attack the Demon Empire??"

"Before, it was the Holy Church and the Heroes... and now the Undead King and his minions... Why must the people of the Demonic Continent suffer such a fate?!"

"The Undead King is coming... just hearing those words is sending chills down my entire body."

The citizens' stunned whispers rapidly permeated the atmosphere. Numerous folks stood rooted in place upon absorbing the news, their bodies turning rigid with numbness.

Yet as the harsh truth sank deeper, they slowly regained their composure, even if their countenances stayed etched with profound unease for their well-being.

The tidings swiftly permeated every corner of the realm. Villages everywhere caught wind of the border turmoil and the peril overshadowing their lands.

Cities dispatched teams to relocate the rural folk and shelter them within fortified bounds for protection. The rural dwellers would stay shielded by the towering walls until the peril passed.

Cities also designated vacant spaces inside their defenses to establish hasty refuges for the evacuees and any others fleeing harm.

Emperor Rhex soon noticed his wife perched solitarily, her features clouded with fret, lacking any companionship.

The instant she sensed him nearby, she swiveled her gaze and caught sight of Rhex stepping into the chamber, his expression carrying a hint of ease. She grasped right away that events had taken a positive turn.

"So, how did it go? Did Yuan agree to cooperate with us and aid us in the war?" she inquired, cocking her head a bit while brimming with eager expectation.

"They agreed... however, they added a condition that we must fulfill when the time comes," Rhex answered with a gentle exhale.

"Oh? What kind of condition? As long as it’s not something absurd, I suppose it’s fine," Varia arched her brows a touch, her tone laced with intrigue.

Drawing in a steady breath, Emperor Rhex revealed, "He asked me to provide him with support when he goes to war against the gods... and his goal is to overthrow the Divine Throne of the gods."

"What?! He wants to overthrow the Divine Throne?! Isn’t that a suicide attempt?!" Varia shot up from the couch at once and fixed her husband with a gaze of utter astonishment.

"As crazy as it sounds, he was not joking. He was completely serious about it, and there was absolute confidence on his face," Rhex responded with an exhausted breath.

Following a brief hush, Emperor Rhex added, "If we survive this war... we must keep our promise to him. However, only the future will tell whether we will be able to achieve our long-awaited revenge."

"We must avenge our ancestors... and all the innocent people who lost their lives in that meaningless war... The gods must pay for the heinous crimes they have committed so far," Varia affirmed with a resolute look, mirroring his determination.

At the same time, Nerith departed the palace to seek out Dorian and direct him to intensify the troops' practice sessions, given the encroaching conflict and the need for all fighters to be ready.

As a seasoned combatant versed in clashes against foes human and beastly alike, she grasped precisely the nature of the strife ahead.

A desperate struggle for existence—each warrior required ample power to confront the Undead King's horde. Their resolve had to steel them against such an overwhelming force without faltering.

The drill field buzzed with troops, a few of whom lounged idly while gossiping over the recent clash between Princess Nerith and Yuan.

"You bunch of fools! What the hell are you idling around for?! Get back to your training immediately!" Nerith’s sharp, wrathful shout erupted from behind them without warning.

The troops jolted at Nerith’s icy, raging tone, with some leaping in alarm and others tumbling rearward onto the ground.

"P-Princess, what brought you back to the training ground so suddenly?" one trooper ventured, his face twisted in unease and dread.

"I’m looking for Dorian. Where is he?" Nerith demanded firmly, her visage locked in stern focus.

"Princess, we haven’t seen him since your duel ended with that monstrous young man... he left the training ground hours ago," a different trooper answered without delay.

"I see... So, he is also slacking off despite such a huge danger looming over our heads. Very impressive for a master trainer..." she mocked with icy disdain, her features twisting into fury.

After a quick ponder, she declared, "Since Dorian isn’t here, you should resume your training."

"Hand this over to him when he arrives. This is a new training schedule that everyone must follow from now on. There is no place for slackers in the military—remember that." She passed a sheet of parchment to one of the troops and strode away from the field, casting a frosty sneer across the group.

"We understand, Princess." The trooper took the document and secured it carefully.

"Now return to your training. We don’t have much time. The war is upon us," Princess Nerith commanded before swiftly exiting the training ground.

As soon as she vanished, the troops dove back into their drills. The nearing peril only spurred them to push their efforts with greater vigor.

All were aware of the Undead King's fearsome reputation, let alone the vast scale of his followers—over a million strong, enough to shatter the Demon Empire with ease.

Upon her return to the palace, Nerith set off in search of Yuan. Having bested her so effortlessly in combat, he was surely equipped to bolster the empire amid this desperate hour.

She promptly located him, charming his spouses, and the scene stirred an odd sensation within her. Her pulse raced faster, and heat flushed her cheeks.

’What is happening to me? Why is my body reacting so strangely when I see him? This is very weird,’ she pondered while striving to steady her nerves.

Abruptly, recollections of her brother and sister-in-law's counsel flooded her mind, intensifying her peculiar response even further.

’This is too complicated... And I don’t have time to think about such things when the situation isn’t in our favor,’ she exhaled and hastened over to Yuan and his companions.

"So, here you are. I’ve been looking for you, Yuan. I have something to discuss with you," Nerith stated upon halting before him, offering a subtle smile in his direction.
