My Beast Is the 12-Winged Angel Chapter 464 - 465: Mutation!
Previously on My Beast Is the 12-Winged Angel...
Ten minutes later, the Holy City’s Central Square was filled with tension.
Standing at the head of the formation, Lanny looked back at the Angel Race’s troops, who were standing in solemn readiness. She chose not to waste time with a long, dramatic speech.
"Our target: The Demon Race passage that is currently stabilizing."
"The mission: Total destruction, regardless of the cost."
"Advance!"
Immediately after the command, Lanny unfurled her ten wings and led the charge at the very front!
...
Simultaneously, in the sky above.
Liu Ye hovered in mid-air, his body flickering with the faint glow of the Fire Law. The magnificent armor he once wore was now riddled with spiderweb-like fractures. His left shoulder guard had been pulverized, revealing a gruesome wound where the bone was visible through the torn flesh. At the edges of the injury, dark purple Demonic Qi writhed and ate away at him like parasitic insects.
Crimson blood trickled down his arm, coating the Holy Sword he held with a white-knuckled grip. His eight wings—once the pride of a War Angel—were dull and battered, with the outermost pair covered in hairline cracks. His breathing was heavy and labored, each gasp causing his chest to heave and aggravating the countless wounds covering his body.
Facing him were three shadows radiating a terrifying Demonic Qi, boxing him in with a triangular formation.
"Hehehe... The title of War Angel is certainly prestigious, and it seems your bones are quite sturdy," the lead Demon General remarked. He was the most muscular of the trio, clad in intimidating bone-forged armor. "But sturdy bones are always the most satisfying to crunch, aren't they?"
The other two demons mocked him in unison:
"Liu Ye, look at your condition. Who do you think is coming to save you?"
"Is it that new little queen of yours?"
"She’s probably cowering in some corner right now, wetting herself in terror!"
"Surrender and stop struggling; if we're in a good mood, we might just let you live!"
Liu Ye ignored their insults completely. He didn't even bother looking at his three opponents. Instead, his eyes drifted toward the Holy City, where he spotted a silver torrent moving through the distance. He knew exactly who it was the moment he saw them. But he was powerless to intervene. He was at his absolute limit—truly, he had nothing left.
"Cough... cough... ugh!"
A fit of violent coughing seized him, and he spat out golden blood flecked with fragments of his internal organs. He could feel his very Life Force and power leaking away into nothingness.
"Tsk, it appears you've reached the end of the road."
"Fine, let's put you out of your misery."
"Don't worry, your little Angel Queen will be following you into the afterlife very soon."
As the words fell, the three demons attacked simultaneously. But at that exact moment, Liu Ye’s dull eyes suddenly flared with a terrifying golden light. It was a flame capable of incinerating everything in its path! He was burning his very essence—a final act of absolute desperation!
Meanwhile, in another sector of the battlefield.
The situation for the four Great Angels was even more catastrophic. Only four of the Guardian Angel’s eight wings remained intact. The Judgment Angel had fared worse, having lost his entire right sword-arm. The remaining two Great Angels were in similarly dire straits.
Their opponents, two Totem Tier Nine demons, hovered nearby as they watched the struggle with amusement.
"Pathetic, truly pathetic! Is this the best the Angel Race can offer? You aren't even enough for a decent warm-up."
"Indeed! I thought the Angel Race was famous for its martial prowess? Why are you four so incredibly weak?"
The four Great Angels looked grim under the demons' taunts, but they had no retort. The Angel Realm had enjoyed peace for too long, leaving them far less experienced than a typical Totem Tier Nine. Their long lives of luxury had caused their combat effectiveness to wither away.
The four shared a silent look, communicating through their eyes. They knew they likely wouldn't survive the day. Yet, none of them entertained the thought of running away. Despite their past political rivalries and support for different heirs, those petty disputes were now irrelevant.
"Let's go together. Even if we die, we'll drag them to the grave with us!"
"My thoughts exactly."
"Charge!"
...
In the vicinity of the Holy City.
A massive spatial vortex was halfway through its formation. It looked like a swirling, inverted abyss of purple light hanging in the heavens. Liquid-like Demonic Qi dripped from its center, causing the ground below to hiss and sizzle as it dissolved. Surrounding the vortex were dozens of Magic Stone Pillars carved with sinister Demon Patterns.
Guarding these pillars were not just low and mid-tier demons, but two monstrous figures whose sheer power caused the space around them to warp and distort. Lanny’s strike team had suffered heavy casualties just to pierce the outer perimeter and reach this heart of the operation. Their original force of hundreds had dwindled to fewer than eighty warriors. Every single one of them was wounded and exhausted.
When they saw the two guardians, a wave of hopelessness washed over the group. Totem Tier Nine! Two demons of that caliber were standing guard over the Void passage!
"Oh, look, a few little mice managed to crawl this far!"
"Wait, those aren't just mice—they're big mice!"
One of the Totem Tier Nine demons stared at Lanny, his eyes gleaming with predatory excitement. Their primary task was to ensure no one interfered with the Void passage meant to welcome the Lord Demon God. There was no room for failure. However, they hadn't expected such a prestigious prize to fall into their laps. The Queen of the Angel Race had walked right into their trap!
"Your Majesty... we..."
The Angel standing beside Lanny was trembling. It wasn't cowardice, but the natural reaction of a soul facing an insurmountable power gap. Against one Totem Tier Nine, they might have stood a chance to buy Lanny time to flee. Against two, there was no escape.
Lanny’s complexion was deathly pale, her knuckles white as she gripped her blade. She knew there would be guards, but she hadn't anticipated two Totem Tier Nine protectors. Was this the end?
"Form the line!"
Lanny bit down hard on her tongue, using the sharp sting of pain and the metallic taste of blood to clear her mind. "Even if we are destined to fall, we will fall fighting! Our target is the nearest Magic Crystal Pillar! Take out at least one!"
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
The surviving soldiers let out a final, defiant roar. They knew they were like moths flying into a bonfire, but they followed their Queen's lead without hesitation.
"Your bravery is noted, but your stupidity is boundless," one demon sneered, raising a hand as destructive energy gathered in his palm. "To reward your idiocy, I'll provide you with a spectacular burial!"
In an instant, thick Demonic Qi formed a suffocating cage around the group. The other demon began conjuring bolts of lethal black lightning. If the combined strike of two Totem Tier Nine demons landed, Lanny and her followers would be erased from existence.
But then, at the critical moment.
*Rippppp——!!!*
A violent, tearing sound echoed across the sky! It wasn't the sound of an explosion or thunder; it was the sound of the fabric of reality being shredded apart. The demons' attacks froze in mid-air. Lanny and her squad looked up in shock.
They witnessed a scene that would be burned into their memories forever. The dark purple sky, saturated with magic, was being torn open like a piece of cheap fabric by an invisible, razor-sharp hand. A massive rift, spanning over a thousand meters, was forced open. And from the heart of that celestial tear, a figure wreathed in brilliant starlight began a slow, graceful descent.
