MIGHT AS WELL BE OP Chapter 894: Backstory-2
Previously on MIGHT AS WELL BE OP...
Aura Nova spent the entire day consumed by tears. Secluding herself within the four walls of her room, she shut out the world and wept without end. She had never truly experienced love before this, yet the one man she finally opened her heart to—the person she cherished for three years—had been a fraud. The affection, the warm embraces, the kisses, the intimate nights, the shared humor, the quiet dates, the travel plans, and the deep discussions about books and novels; every single memory was built upon a foundation of lies.
The very thing she had spent her life fleeing from had taken root and flourished for three years right under her nose. She had been exploited and used without ever realizing it. That night, the Dusk Planet itself seemed to mirror her inner turmoil. The heavens wept with her as rain fell in a relentless deluge, while thunder and lightning tore through the sky as if the world were contemplating striking Alexandra dead.
Every word Alexandra uttered that night echoed in Aura Nova’s mind, playing on a loop and merging with every moment they had shared over the last three years. The discrepancy between the man she loved and the man revealed by his own confession was jarring. These two conflicting images exposed just how masterful an actor Alexandra had truly been.
Rain received news of both the breakup and the shattering of Aura Nova’s mana core. Fury erupted within him the moment he heard. Despite not being her biological father, he had always fulfilled that role and viewed her as his own daughter in every way. He desired to slaughter Alexandra and put a global bounty on his head. As the most powerful man on the Dusk Planet, he had the strength to do it; Alexandra was nothing but a pathetic fool by comparison.
Rain thought back to every bit of support and help he had granted Alexandra. The more he reminisced, the deeper his resentment grew. Every favor and every door he had opened for the man now felt like a direct slap in the face. It was only Aura Nova’s intervention that prevented Rain from ending Alexandra’s life that very night.
Aura Nova spent that night with her head in Rain’s lap. Normally, such a rare and precious father-daughter moment would have brought him peace, but he found no joy in it. How could he feel happy when Aura Nova had cried herself to sleep, her heart and her mana core both broken in a single night?
Even though Aura Nova had stopped him from killing Alexandra, Rain’s rage was far from extinguished.
At dawn, Rain’s first act was to announce the split between Aura Nova and Alexandra to the entire Dusk Planet. If he was forbidden from killing the fool, he would make the man’s existence a living nightmare. Rain made it his mission to ensure Alexandra regretted ever being born.
The world was rocked by the announcement, yet there was little mourning. Most were indifferent, while many were secretly pleased, seeing it as a golden opportunity. Thousands of letters arrived; some expressed concern for Aura Nova, while others were confessions of love written in elegant ink, believing their time had finally come.
As for Aura Nova, she woke up... perfectly fine.
Despite the previous night's sobbing, her eyes and face were flawless, showing no signs of sorrow. She checked her lower abdomen to find her mana core stable, whole, and completely intact. Her mana rank remained unchanged, as if the damage had never occurred. A small laugh escaped her—not a deranged or broken laugh, but one that was genuine, light, and normal.
Had Alexandra been patient for just a few more hours, he could have kept playing his role to perfection.
Aura Nova’s body had instinctively mended her shattered mana core. This was why she hadn't panicked during the incident, and why she had walked out of her training so calmly before speaking to Alexandra.
Throughout her life, Aura Nova’s mana core had broken several times because she pushed her Omniedit ability to extreme limits. Each time, she would wake the following morning fully recovered, her mana core restored and her mana rank stabilized along with her foundation. She had long ago confirmed that her body could repair itself without any outside help.
Alexandra, however, was ignorant of this. In their three years together, her mana core had never failed. The very first time it did, he fled.
Contrary to expectations, Aura Nova did not go into hiding. Instead, she became more social. She smiled and laughed more frequently, speaking to others with newfound freedom. It was during this time that she built real bonds with Charles Evander and Valak.
Valak eventually confessed his feelings to Aura Nova, and like countless others, he was turned down. However, as her friend, Aura Nova shared the truth about her past with Alexandra, causing Valak to despise the man with every fiber of his soul.
The memories the many-eyed abomination had disturbed with its illusions during the fight with Aura Nova were these exact memories of Alexandra. That was why she had been so brutal, smashing its head against celestial bodies before finally ending its life.
Because of Alexandra, Aura Nova realized her greatest weakness: she had never truly understood people because she had kept everyone at a distance.
Her smiles and openness weren't a mask for her pain; they were real. Even though Alexandra had betrayed her and broken her heart, Aura Nova didn't hunt for revenge or demand answers. She simply accepted the truth and moved forward.
As for Alexandra, he was left to rot in his own misery. He remained alive because Rain had guards watching him constantly to prevent him from escaping through suicide.
Rain personally made sure to tell Alexandra about Aura Nova’s full recovery the very next day. The news was delivered by his own mouth. Rain had sworn to turn the Dusk Planet into a personal hell for Alexandra, ensuring the only way out was a natural death from old age—an end that was still centuries away.
