Zhao Hai observed Li Ruohai and offered a faint smile. "Young Master Li, you will soon discover if this is the extent of my capabilities. Do not assume you are invincible simply because you possess a battle corpse. Since I, Zhao Hai, have the skill to dismantle formations, I naturally have the expertise to construct them. You will understand its true power once you experience it firsthand."
With a frost-covered expression, Li Ruohai replied icily, "Brat, you should realize that we are confined here for half a year. Do you intend to stay in that spot indefinitely? I recall that arrays are stationary. Even if you prepared this trap in advance, the moment you move, your formation will become useless. When that happens, you are a dead man."
Zhao Hai looked back at Li Ruohai and grinned. "Regardless, we have already profited significantly from this excursion. Waiting here for six months is no hardship. When the time comes to depart, we can leave just as easily as you. Unless you are willing to risk being trapped here just to settle a score, we are in no rush at all."
Hearing this, Li Ruohai’s eyes seemed to erupt with fury as he glared at Zhao Hai. His true motive for targeting Zhao Hai was to force him into servitude. He needed Zhao Hai to bypass the restrictive spells of the Spiritual Array Sect so he could seize a particular magic weapon from the Spiritual Array Realm. He had gone to great lengths to confirm the weapon's location, but the sect's defenses were unexpectedly formidable. Even with his battle corpse, a frontal assault would fail against so many layers of protection.
Consequently, when Li Ruohai learned that Zhao Hai was successfully breaking restrictions in this region, he took notice. However, upon finding the area protected by its own barrier, he organized a group to surround the perimeter, waiting for Zhao Hai to fall into his trap.
He had not anticipated that Zhao Hai would refuse to bite. Forced to use aggression, he now found that Zhao Hai was well-prepared. Though the nature of the formation was a mystery to him, its apparent strength was giving Li Ruohai a significant headache.
After glancing at Zhao Hai, he decided to test the waters. He was determined to gauge the actual strength of this array. With a sneer, Li Ruohai commanded, "I want to see exactly how much your array can handle. Everyone, listen! Launch long-range attacks. I want to see if his formation can withstand a concentrated barrage."
The others were momentarily stunned by Li Ruohai’s order before realization dawned on them. They turned malicious gazes toward Zhao Hai and brandished their magic weapons, preparing to strike. Simultaneously, Li Ruohai ordered his battle corpse to charge at Zhao Hai’s group. Nearby, the disciples of the Corpse Demon Sect also summoned their own battle corpses.
Unlike Li Ruohai, every other Corpse Demon Sect disciple manifested multiple battle corpses. However, anyone hoping to exploit Li Ruohai’s single corpse would be mistaken. Despite having only one battle corpse, he possessed other formidable celestial devices. A black skeleton now circled him, providing a solid defense that ensured his safety.
Meanwhile, members of the Dark Ghost Sect released their spirits into the fray. The rest of the cultivators prepared their Dharma artifacts. Those with long-range tools prepared to fire, while those without unleashed waves of blade Qi and sword Qi toward Zhao Hai.
Seeing the incoming assault, Zhao Hai smiled. He formed a Sun Seal with his hands and shouted, "Forward!" As the incantation left his lips, a massive magic array materialized around him. The array spun continuously, yet it lacked the aggressive, sharp aura of his previous works. This formation felt gentler, devoid of intense fire energy or jagged edges.
Nevertheless, when the waves of blade and sword Qi struck the barrier, they were swiftly redirected by the spinning motion and faded away. Even the battle corpses and ghosts seemed to lose their momentum upon entering the array's influence. They began to drift in circles alongside the formation, their killing intent seemingly neutralized.
Witnessing this, Li Ruohai’s face darkened. He performed a rapid hand gesture and barked, "Swish!" At his command, the battle corpse let out a feral roar. Its eyes glowed crimson as thick black gas erupted from its frame, coalescing into a massive ghost claw that slammed toward the array.
Zhao Hai reacted by shifting his hand gesture into the Outer Lion Seal. He yelled, "Fight!" In response to his voice, a gargantuan fist emerged from within the red magic array, a faint spinning seal etched onto its surface. The fist collided directly with the ghostly claw!
The impact was strangely muffled. Upon contact, the fist dissolved into a sprawling net, with miniature arrays rotating at every junction of the mesh. This net instantly ensnared the ghost claw.
Trapped, the claw struggled violently. The net buckled under the pressure but refused to snap. Slowly, the ghost claw began to diminish in size. Though the process was gradual, it was clearly shrinking, much to the shock of Li Ruohai and his companions.
Li Ruohai changed his hand signs and shouted, "Break!" Following his cry, the ghost claw detonated. With a sharp boom, both the claw and the restraining net vanished, leaving only the primary array spinning calmly in the air.
Zhao Hai, now holding a Daoist Seal, stood composed as he faced Li Ruohai. "Young Master Li, I suggest you give up. My mastery of the Dao of magical formations is not something to be trifled with. Without proper preparation, you cannot hope to shatter my work," Zhao Hai stated. Despite his words, the other cultivators continued their futile assault; their attacks were simply diverted and neutralized the moment they touched the array.
Li Ruohai’s eyes flashed with a cold light. He had underestimated the power of Zhao Hai’s magical formation. However, his pride would not allow him to retreat. He growled, "Do not be so arrogant. I refuse to believe you can maintain this defense forever. I will find a flaw in your formation."
Zhao Hai couldn't help but chuckle. "Very well, take all the time you need to think. I am curious to see what you devise. But do you truly believe my formation is limited to defense? You underestimate me." After speaking, Zhao Hai’s hands moved in a blur of shifting seals. He then roared, "Lin!"
The Acalanatha Seal activated instantly. Before the eyes of the startled crowd, a dense blood mist surged from the formation. The mist churned and shifted until it solidified into a crimson figure. This blood-red entity brandished a long saber of the same hue.
Zhao Hai was not finished. He cast several more spells, causing the array to spin with violent speed. As it accelerated, the blood-red figure expanded, stopping only when it reached a height of ten meters.
Continuing his hand seals, Zhao Hai channeled streams of black Qi into the giant. The dark energy settled over the figure’s surface like a layer of skin. Eventually, the entity turned entirely black, save for two glowing, blood-red eyes.
While the onlookers were still paralyzed by confusion, the colossus swung its blood-red saber toward Li Ruohai and his group. The sky seemed to darken as the blade descended. It felt as though a literal river of blood was crashing toward them, the overwhelming Qi making it difficult for anyone to breathe.
A disciple from the Blood Massacre Sect cried out in terror, "The Eight Forms of Bloody Battle!" Being a member of that sect, he recognized the technique instantly. It was their signature cultivation style. Though the eight strikes appeared basic, they possessed immense power and infinite variations. Crucially, the technique scaled with the user's level, appearing different in every practitioner's hands.
The giant was executing the Eight Forms of Bloody Battle with such perfection that it had reached the level of Saber Intent. The manifestation of the Blood River was a feat that most disciples of the Blood Massacre Sect could never hope to achieve.
The exclamation snapped the others out of their daze. Overcome by shock, they desperately raised their magic weapons to defend themselves. By then, the Blood River had already engulfed them. They felt a fluid, crushing force pressing against them, disrupting their movements and throwing their techniques into disarray. The sheer weight of the power was nearly impossible to withstand.
But the horror was only beginning. Just as they struggled against the pressure of the Blood River, a solid, devastating force tore through them. Several cultivators failed to protect themselves and were struck directly, coughing up blood from severe internal injuries. In the next heartbeat, a flash of saber light flickered. Their heads were severed, and their remains were swallowed by the swirling Blood River.
