I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors? Chapter 625: Chu Feng: This Master Will Only Demonstrate It Once

Previously on I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors?...
Xia Kang returned to the Great Xia Tribe as a celebrated hero following the Venerable Ancestor's decree, vowing to cultivate diligently and lead his people to prosperity while plotting revenge against his betrayers. Under Cao Youqian's guidance at the Tyrant Fist Sacred Ground, he swiftly mastered the Chaos Body Refining Decision in just one month. In the Asking Dao Sect, Jiang Yan awakened the Zhoutian Body and comprehended Green Wood True Intent, while White Deer transformed into a human form and was formally accepted as Chu Feng's disciple, named Lu Ming. During a Dao lecture, Chu Feng transmitted the Mystic Fire Alchemy Technique to Jiang Yan, entrusting him with the task of improving it to refine pills without rare spirit fire.

"Master, you're placing too much faith in this disciple; I'm worried I might not measure up to your great expectations."

The immense responsibility handed to him by his master surprised Jiang Yan, instantly doubling the burden weighing on his mind.

With a gentle smile, Chu Feng replied: "A-Yan, don't underestimate yourself. To this master, achieving this is merely a question of when for you. Besides, it's simply about familiarizing yourself with a hundred herbs to aid others in recovery."

"Regarding Spirit Fire and Earth Fire, our sect possesses both. Feel free to utilize them at any time, without worrying about setbacks. Eventually, success will come to you."

Guiding students in cultivation isn't enough for a teacher; building their self-assurance in studies matters too. Chu Feng excelled at this already, confident that his words would inspire Jiang Yan to carve out his destiny in the Pill Dao.

Meeting his master's hopeful eyes, Jiang Yan nodded firmly: "Master, this disciple will strive diligently and won't let you down in any way."

"This master has faith in you. Come along, I'll take you to see our sect's Fire Spirit Pulse and, while we're at it, instruct you on fire manipulation techniques."

"Yes."

Jiang Yan answered promptly, trailing after Chu Feng as they headed to a peak in the Ask Dao Sect. Ji Jiuwu and Lu Ming exchanged a quick look before hurrying to join them.

Shortly after, Chu Feng led the group to a stark, barren summit. Though spiritual energy enveloped the area, it carried an intense, searing emptiness that unsettled everyone.

He glanced back at the trio following him and asked: "What makes this mountain stand out, in your views?"

"This disciple detects an overwhelming abundance of fire spiritual power here." Ji Jiuwu spoke up first.

"It feels devoid of life, and I sense something inside ready to erupt outward." Jiang Yan added next.

After hearing his seniors, Lu Ming chimed in: "Master, I perceive a creature forming within this mountain."

His statement drew puzzled stares from Jiang Yan and Ji Jiuwu toward Lu Ming.

Smiling, Chu Feng commented: "All three of you hit the mark. Now, allow this master to unveil the truth."

With that, he pointed lightly, sending a sword energy slicing into the peak. Instantly, a thunderous roar echoed from within. Right after, massive flames soared dozens of zhang into the sky from the mountaintop.

Rising with the blaze was a towering fire spirit exceeding nine zhang in height.

The fire spirit scanned its surroundings before locking eyes on Chu Feng. Then, it diminished to match the stature of Chu Feng and his followers, dropping to its knees in reverence: "Child greets Father."

???

Confusion washed over Ji Jiuwu, Jiang Yan, and Lu Ming as they eyed the fire spirit, a shared thought crossing their minds: This creature is utterly bold, claiming kinship so swiftly.

Chu Feng chuckled: "You gained awareness from attending this seat's teachings. Referring to this seat as father isn't overstepping. Henceforth, address this seat as foster father."

"Child seeks a name from foster father."

The fire spirit beamed with delight as it spoke.

"This seat's family name is Chu, and you emerged from flames, so you'll be known as Chu Yan."

"Gratitude to foster father."

Excitement lit up Chu Yan's features.

In a calm tone, Chu Feng instructed: "From now on, protect this mountain. Attend this seat's lectures whenever possible. Oh, and does this mountain harbor any Heavenly Flame?"

"Indeed."

Chu Yan explained: "I rank among the mountain's innate spirit fires, yet a derived acquired Heavenly Flame lurks in the fire vein, posing a real challenge. Without foster father's Dao scriptures, this child would have fallen to that Heavenly Flame already."

"Oh."

Interest sparked in Chu Feng at the mention of the Heavenly Flame: "Lead this seat there to witness what sort of Heavenly Flame could intimidate even you, an innate entity."

"Yes."

Eager for his foster father to intervene, Chu Yan dove back into the mountain without delay. Suppressing that foe would let him reclaim control over the fire spirit pulse.

With a sweep of his hand, Chu Feng transported the three disciples into the volcanic depths. Flames parted automatically wherever he advanced. As they descended nearer to the core, the heat around them intensified relentlessly.

Soon, Chu Yan halted and announced: "Foster father, the Heavenly Flame lies just beyond."

Chu Feng gave a subtle nod: "Go draw it out."

"Ah?"

Chu Yan hesitated, stunned that his foster father would assign such a task to him.

"Scared, are you, or do you doubt this father?"

Chu Feng teased with a knowing grin.

"This child fears nothing. I'll fetch that thing immediately; its reign ends soon." Chu Yan's tone rose defiantly, though it seemed more like self-encouragement.

All onlookers stifled their amusement at the sight, holding back laughter.

Once Chu Yan departed, Ji Jiuwu remarked: "Who knew this junior brother could be so entertaining."

Before he finished, a bellow from Chu Yan echoed from the depths, alerting Chu Feng's group.

"You little pest, your grandpa's back to handle you. Dare to face grandpa if you've got the nerve!"

Rumble!

A tremendous noise followed, stirring the mountain's flames into chaos as they surged upward.

Amid the turbulent inferno, Chu Yan fled in disarray. Trailing him was an alluring dark crimson flame shaped like a lotus.

At once, Chu Feng identified it as the Red Lotus Karma Fire. Turning to Jiang Yan, he noted: "A-Yan, fortune smiles on you."

As he spoke, the desperate Chu Yan cried out: "Foster father, help!"

Amused by the plea, Chu Feng reached out and seized the Red Lotus Karma Fire effortlessly. Overwhelmed by the immense aura from Chu Feng, the flame resisted briefly before going still in his grasp.

Quickly, Chu Feng picked up the submissive plea from the Red Lotus Karma Fire. He merely smiled without responding. Though it had developed some sentience, it remained basic. Pivoting, he gestured, lifting everyone back to the summit.

Gazing at the subdued Red Lotus Karma Fire in his foster father's hold, Chu Yan felt profound relief over his earlier choice. Acting as foolishly as this flame would have sealed a grim end for him too.

Directing his attention to Jiang Yan, Chu Feng declared: "A-Yan, this master will now show you the way to subdue a Heavenly Flame. Observe closely; this demonstration happens only once."

"Please guide me, Master."

Jiang Yan responded eagerly, fixing his eyes on his master.

To the flame in his palm, Chu Feng addressed: "Little one, this seat offers you two paths. Submit to this seat, or face annihilation. Signal the first by trembling; the second requires no action."

???

Question marks filled Jiang Yan's expression as he gaped at his master. Could this truly conquer a Heavenly Flame?

Ji Jiuwu and Lu Ming stood equally stunned nearby. Chu Yan alone nodded approvingly. To him, subduing meant overpowering the foe; his foster father showed mercy.

The Heavenly Flame quivered slightly in Chu Feng's grip. A pleased smile crossed his face as he turned to Jiang Yan: "A-Yan, did you grasp it?"

"This disciple understands, though the execution eludes me."

Jiang Yan admitted candidly. His master's approach relied purely on overwhelming power, lacking any finesse.

How could Chu Feng miss the uncertainty in his student's thoughts? Smiling, he clarified: "It appears your daily reading falls short. From tomorrow, add one more book each."

"Yes."

Ji Jiuwu, Jiang Yan, and Lu Ming replied together.

Chu Yan grinned idly off to the side. But his joy faded in moments as Chu Feng tapped his head. Clutching it, he stared at Chu Feng with hurt eyes: "Foster father, what misstep did this child make?"

Sternly, Chu Feng retorted: "You assume silence exempts you from reading?"

"Ah?"

Chu Yan's expression darkened instantly.

Ignoring the spirit, Chu Feng told Jiang Yan: "Alright, step forward and bind the Heavenly Flame. This master will impart the contract formation."

"Thank you, Master."
