I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors? Chapter 620: Lightning Qilin — Gan-ge, Someone Has Passed Your Test
Previously on I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors?...
“You rascal, how dare you—”
Cao Youqian had awakened the enormous hand from its deep sleep, filling it with boiling rage. Right when it prepared to thunderously scold this clueless youngster, the eye upon its limb suddenly blinked open. Spotting the youth standing there casually as if unscathed, its outburst halted sharply.
“Impossible! How could the demonic aura around you vanish like that?”
Shrugging casually, Cao Youqian grinned and replied, “Well, senior, your power just fell short, didn’t it? If it had been stronger, I’d have taken a couple more days to heal up.”
“You!!!”
Those words ignited total fury in the massive hand. As a mighty Demon God of its era, it found itself powerless against this mere Nirvana Realm punk. Should this get out, endless mockery would follow.
“You’ve brought this on yourself, kid!”
With those words, endless beams of demonic glow erupted from its gaze, cascading down upon Cao Youqian like a storm.
Cao Youqian remained perfectly still, letting the dark rays wash over his form. Gradually, he shut his eyes, a satisfied expression spreading across his features.
This move inflicted no damage whatsoever, yet it struck as the ultimate insult.
The huge hand shook with fury, desperate to smash the insolent boy into oblivion with one squeeze.
Regrettably, heavy chains restrained it. Even launching those demonic beams pushed its limits, thanks to its lingering might.
Two hours passed, and Cao Youqian wrapped up his daily practice session. His eyes fluttered open, a faint smirk tugging at his lips, before he respectfully saluted the giant hand. “Many thanks, senior.”
Then, Cao Youqian spun around and departed, leaving no chance for the hand to respond.
Soon enough, a frenzied bellow erupted from the lake depths. “You punk, mark my words—one day, this lord will pulverize your bones and scatter your remains to the winds!”
That thunderous cry reverberated over a hundred li. The Lightning Qilin stationed outside Five Elements Mountain caught it and flinched involuntarily, whispering to itself, “What in the world did Gan-ge pull off to enrage that horrifying being beneath the lake so much?”
For days on end, Cao Youqian visited the colossal hand to carry out his routine cultivation. Initially, it bellowed threats and attempted to slay him with every encounter.
Yet after a handful of days, it recognized this human youth as far from typical. Choosing to observe, it figured that as the boy’s power grew, he’d inevitably stumble into its snare.
This morning at dawn, a band of demon race folk and humans rushed up to the outskirts of Five Elements Mountain.
Though they typically clashed fiercely, shared dread and anxiety etched every face right then.
The assembled hundred races eyed the enormous boulder blocking Five Elements Mountain, their pulses quickening. After a quick look around, they shoved forth a slender human lad.
The young man hadn’t uttered a word when glaring eyes from all sides silenced him with warnings.
Gritting his teeth, he advanced a few paces, dropped to his knees, and bowed deeply. “This humble servant arrives to honor the new emperor.”
“Visitors have arrived?”
A skeptical tone echoed from inside Five Elements Mountain. Moments later, the gathered cultivators watched a Lightning Qilin emerge leisurely from within.
A chilling realization hit them all: this fresh Demon Emperor commanded a Qilin as his mere gatekeeper. What staggering might must he possess?
The human lad gazed at the nearing Lightning Qilin, his frame quaking beyond control.
Peering down at the kneeling figure nearby, the Lightning Qilin queried puzzledly, “Have you come to honor Gan-ge?”
The lad had no clue about Gan-ge’s identity. Still, the grand shaman and tribal leader had ordered him to venerate Five Elements Mountain’s new ruler. By proclaiming the tribe’s devotion to him as a god, he could redeem himself and cleanse his guilt.
So, the youth quickly responded, “To Your Majesty, yes, I’m here to pay homage to the mountain’s master.”
“Alright then.”
The Lightning Qilin expelled a luminous pearl and instructed, “Let a drop of your blood fall on this orb. Should it shine seven chi bright, you’ll get to meet Gan-ge.”
“Understood.”
Though baffled completely, the youth pressed on for his duty’s sake, obeying the elder’s words. He drew his personal blade, pricked his fingertip, and let a droplet land on the pearl.
Instantly, the pearl burst into nine chi of radiant hues, leaving the Lightning Qilin dumbfounded.
The distant onlookers from the hundred races stood petrified too. They pondered what marvelous artifact the pearl might be, to spark such a dazzling display.
Snapping out of its daze shortly, the Lightning Qilin adopted a haughty demeanor and declared commandingly, “Excellent. Follow this king to meet Gan-ge.”
Before the human youth could even stir, it snatched him up and disappeared from the hundred races’ view.
Only after what felt like ages did the crowd recover and cry out together, “Your Majesty, we haven’t offered our blood drops yet!”
Beside the Demonic Lake, Cao Youqian had purged every trace of demonic aura from his body and tempered his frame anew. Poised to start another cultivation round, he detected the Lightning Qilin’s presence hurtling near and paused at once.
In a flash, the Lightning Qilin touched down in front of Cao Youqian, still holding the terrified human youth in its jaws.
Releasing the lad gently, the Lightning Qilin announced, “Gan-ge, this youngster cleared your trial. I’ve fetched him here for you.”
Cao Youqian shot the Lightning Qilin an exasperated glance. “Big Thunder, you’re turning sloppier by the day. It’s merely a kid who aced the test—did you have to turn it into such a spectacle? See how you’ve terrified the poor thing.”
The Lightning Qilin protested, “You never mentioned any guidelines.”
“Was he the sole arrival?” Cao Youqian inquired.
“Plenty of demon kin and humans showed up,” the Lightning Qilin explained. “I got carried away seeing his test yield nine chi of glow and ditched the rest outside.”
Cao Youqian flashed a thumbs-up in mock praise. “Classic you—no one beats your talent for chaos. Fine, head back and check those others first, then haul them all here come morning.”
“On it.”
With that, the Lightning Qilin dashed away in haste, abandoning the dazed human youth who gawked at Cao Youqian.
“Young one, what’s your name?”
A warm, amiable grin lit up Cao Youqian’s countenance.
The youth replied warily, “To my lord, I’m called Xia Kang.”
“A full name like that suggests you hail from a sizable clan.”
Cao Youqian went on, “What brings you to seek audience with me?”
Xia Kang stated, “To my lord, our people wish to pledge loyalty to you. We beg you to welcome our tribe.”
Cao Youqian responded evenly, “Acceptable, though I impose one requirement.”
Xia Kang answered swiftly, “Name it, my lord.”
“Join my sect.”
Cao Youqian regarded the youth steadily. Surprisingly, at those words, the boy displayed no delight—instead, he bowed his head and grew quiet.
