Chapter 568: Shi Xuan's Small Goal
"Host's disciple Shi Xuan has reached the Heavenly Origin Realm. Rewarding the host with thirty years of Cultivation."
While Chu Feng was on Miaomiao Mountain reciting scriptures beneath the Bodhi tree, the system's notification echoed in his mind.
The sudden alert failed to disrupt Chu Feng's rhythm. At his current level, no reward except for the True Meaning of the Great Dao could truly capture his attention.
Nevertheless, since Shi Xuan had ascended to the Heavenly Origin Realm, he would likely achieve more breakthroughs soon, which would consequently enhance Chu Feng's own understanding of the True Meaning of the Great Dao.
Within the Land of Slaughter.
The demonic entities inhabiting White Bone Valley remained terrified of the Thousand Illusion Mistress's cave. Even though the sword energy from that previous strike had long since faded, the psychological trauma it inflicted was overwhelming.
After spending several days in seclusion, Shi Xuan’s eyes slowly fluttered open. A faint smile touched his lips as he sensed the vast spiritual power coursing through him: "I have finally mastered the Jie Character Secret. With this, my Cultivation progress in the Land of Slaughter will accelerate tremendously. Within ten years, I must reach the Dao Union Realm!"
Shi Xuan cleared away the debris blocking the entrance and stepped out of the cave, gripping his long sword.
He had no intention of staying in White Bone Valley; the demonic creatures here were no longer useful for his training.
Only those at the Heavenly Origin Realm, or perhaps even the Nurturing God Realm, were worthy of being Shi Xuan's opponents now.
Time slipped away unnoticed amidst the peaks. Shi Xuan had already spent six months within the Land of Slaughter.
During this half-year period of constant battle, he had already climbed to the third level of the Heavenly Origin Realm, a speed far exceeding his previous progress.
Despite this success, Shi Xuan stopped his slaughter and prepared to head back toward Wen Dao Pass.
His supply of pills was nearly exhausted, and more importantly, his physical form had been tainted by the aura of slaughter. He required a period of seclusion to purge this influence.
If he neglected this, the aura of slaughter would eventually consume his mind, turning him into just another mindless inhabitant of the Land of Slaughter.
Two weeks later.
Shi Xuan arrived at the gates of Wen Dao Pass. The moment he appeared, still masked, several disciples of Wen Dao Academy moved to block his path.
"Stop right there!"
The group couldn't help but shudder as they felt the suffocating aura of slaughter radiating from Shi Xuan.
It was common for fellow disciples to return from the Land of Slaughter with a killing intent, but the intensity surrounding this individual was simply bone-chilling.
Without saying a word, Shi Xuan retrieved his identity token from his storage ring.
The disciples froze when they recognized the True Inheritance Disciple token.
The leader of the group spoke up: "Senior brother, we aren't trying to be difficult, but rules are rules here at the Land of Slaughter."
Shi Xuan replied indifferently: "Take this token to Senior Brother Shi Yuqi. Once he sees it, he will come to escort me to the proper location."
Huu...
The disciples let out a collective sigh of relief.
They weren't worried about someone having a powerful connection; a backer meant there was a protocol to follow and someone to take the blame. They were far more afraid of arrogant "geniuses" without a background, as those types were the most troublesome to manage.
Shortly after.
Shi Yuqi arrived in a hurry, followed by his trusted subordinates. He looked at the masked figure and almost blurted out Shi Xuan's name in surprise.
Being a seasoned veteran, he caught himself and smiled: "Junior brother, you have returned. I've already prepared a meditation room for you. Please let me know if you require anything else."
"I appreciate your help, senior brother," Shi Xuan replied calmly.
"This way, junior brother."
The surrounding disciples watched in awe as Shi Yuqi personally escorted Shi Xuan away. Shi Yuqi was well-connected in the Outer Affairs Court and usually received great respect from others. Seeing him act so hospitably toward a True Inheritance disciple led them to believe the newcomer was likely the protégé of a powerful Elder or one of the Ten Great Chiefs.
"Junior Brother Shi, these quiet rooms are equipped with formations designed to cleanse the aura of slaughter. Considering your current state, you should use a high-grade formation for forty-nine days to fully purify yourself," Shi Yuqi suggested.
Shi Xuan smiled and shook his head: "There is no need for that. Back on Miaomiao Mountain, I frequently listened to my Master's sermons. He taught us scriptures that can dissolve this aura. A low-grade quiet room will be more than enough."
Smack!
Shi Yuqi hit his own forehead and laughed sheepishly: "I completely forgot! Chief Chu is a legendary figure, unmatched in wisdom and talent. Since he sent you here, he must have provided you with a solution already. Junior brother, just tell me if you need anything over the next few days."
Shi Xuan handed over a storage bag: "Senior brother, I'll need your help purchasing some pills to replenish spiritual power suitable for the Heavenly Origin Realm. If this isn't enough, let me know."
Shi Yuqi didn't even bother checking the bag: "It's plenty, I'm sure. Junior Brother Shi, I am well aware of your wealth."
With Shi Yuqi's help, Shi Xuan was soon settled into a low-grade quiet room.
As Shi Yuqi turned to leave, the duty deacon intercepted him.
"Junior Brother Shi, how could you be so reckless? Bringing someone so heavily corrupted by the aura of slaughter into a low-grade room is dangerous. If he loses control and ruins the room, that's one thing, but if he dies, we'll be held accountable."
"Senior Brother Hong, calm down. If you knew who that was, you wouldn't be worried at all," Shi Yuqi said smoothly.
"And who exactly is he?" Senior Brother Hong asked, his anger cooling. Most deacons in the Outer Affairs Court were pragmatic men; he wouldn't have let Shi Yuqi proceed if he didn't suspect there was a reason behind it.
"That is the disciple of Chief Chu," Shi Yuqi answered with a wide grin.
"Ah, I see," Senior Brother Hong remarked, looking at Shi Yuqi with envy. Chief Chu was widely considered the most likely candidate to become the next head of the academy.
Even if that didn't happen, one of his two Holy Sons would eventually lead Wen Dao Academy. Forging a bond with the Miscellaneous Dao Courtyard meant a future of endless possibilities.
Shi Yuqi didn't linger, cupping his hands: "Senior brother, I have other tasks to attend to. I'll leave you to it."
"Understood."
Once Shi Yuqi left, Senior Brother Hong began plotting ways to get on the good side of the person inside the room.
Inside the meditation chamber.
Shi Xuan sat in a cross-legged position, eyes shut, as he began to intone the Buddhist scriptures taught by his Master.
As the chanting filled the room, the red aura of slaughter clinging to him began to evaporate.
Days turned into a week. Seven days later, Shi Xuan opened his eyes. He felt refreshed; the aura of slaughter was gone, and more importantly, his mental fortitude had been strengthened.
He smirked to himself: "I didn't realize the aura of slaughter could be so beneficial for tempering the mind. I wonder if Senior Brother Shi Yuqi has secured those pills yet?"
Shi Xuan unsealed the door and stepped out into the hall...
