Chapter 566: Shi Xuan: Is That So? I Don't Believe It
Death energy swirled within the White Bone Valley, choking the sky and blotting out the sun. Even during the peak of day, the gloom was so thick it mirrored the dead of night.
Fortunately, Shi Xuan possessed the gift of night vision. To his eyes, the oppressive darkness offered virtually no obstacle compared to daylight.
Gripping his long sword, he paced through the valley with measured steps. He remained in a state of high alert, his senses honed to react to the slightest disturbance.
Rustle, rustle. An eerie silence gripped the valley; the only sound was the rhythmic crunch of his own movement.
Minutes ticked by. Shi Xuan had already ventured more than a thousand paces into the depths of the valley, yet he had not encountered a single bone demon.
This absence of enemies left him feeling quite puzzled. Just as he considered shifting his direction, the sound of sudden movement erupted nearby.
Dozens of bone demons, taking the forms of both humans and beasts, appeared in his sight. They were currently in pursuit of a woman clad in a white robe.
She was battered and covered in wounds, her garments so tattered that glimpses of her ample figure were visible through the torn fabric.
Shi Xuan, however, did not linger on her appearance. Instead, a thoughtful expression crossed his face as he questioned why a female cultivator would unexpectedly materialize in such a place.
The woman’s eyes lit up with hope the moment she spotted Shi Xuan. She immediately cried out, "Young master, save me!"
"Very well," Shi Xuan answered, thrusting his blade forward. A sharp strand of sword qi whistled toward the white-robed woman and the horde of bone demons trailing her.
Sensing the incoming sword qi, the woman instinctively leaped to the side. Within a heartbeat, the attack pierced through the entire group of demons.
With a series of clattering sounds, every bone demon collapsed into a heap. The woman in white clutched her chest, exhaling a long sigh of relief.
"Thank you for your help, young master. I can never repay such great kindness; I am willing to offer myself to you in marriage."
"Hmph," Shi Xuan snorted softly. "There is no need for that. You should first put on proper clothes and then lead me to the lair of these monsters."
"I shall wipe them all out at once." He was naturally skeptical of a hero-saving-the-beauty scenario occurring in a wasteland like the White Bone Valley.
While he hadn't put his full power into that strike, no cultivator below the Heavenly Origin Realm should have been able to evade it so easily.
Yet, this woman had dodged instantly. With such agility, it was impossible for her to be genuinely threatened by a pack of Dao Base Realm bone demons.
He suspected that the woman was actually a bone demon of the Heavenly Origin Realm in disguise. Though her ultimate goal remained a mystery, he was in no rush to call her out.
His plan was to wait until they reached the heart of the lair before striking with his full strength to give her a massive surprise. "I understand," the woman replied with an obedient nod.
She retrieved a fresh set of clothes from her storage ring and changed. After a brief moment, she spoke again.
"Young master, do you truly want me to lead you to their lair? There are many terrifying existences within."
"Several of my fellow disciples at the Life Core Realm perished there. Had I not been lucky and possessed a protective treasure from my sect, I would not have seen you."
Shi Xuan replied with indifference, "Do not compare this young master to your useless fellow disciples. Lead the way."
"As you wish." The woman turned to guide him, her lips curling into a subtle, hidden smirk.
She was unaware that every twitch of her expression was being monitored by Shi Xuan. He said nothing and followed her in silence.
The pair traveled for half an hour until they reached the banks of a river the color of blood. The woman pointed toward the far side.
"Young master, their lair is located in a cave dwelling across the blood river. A ten-thousand-year blood lingzhi is also hidden inside."
"Our group only took the risk to obtain that lingzhi. Who would have thought..."
"Continue leading the way." Shi Xuan cut her off, refusing to listen to any more of her tales.
Seeing Shi Xuan’s stubbornness, the white-robed woman dismissed him as just another arrogant and self-conceited genius. She decided to let him enjoy his pride for a few more moments. Once they entered the Blood Shore Cave, she would ensure he never left, and his providence would become hers.
The two crossed the blood river on their swords, arriving at the cave entrance in an instant. Feigning terror, the woman said, "Young master, there are countless bone demons inside. I do not dare to enter."
"There is no need to worry. With me here, no bone demon can harm you. Let us go." Though Shi Xuan's voice was calm, it possessed an authority that allowed no refusal.
The woman fell silent and walked toward the cavern. Upon entering, they were met by a narrow, lightless passage.
After several hundred steps, the tunnel opened up. A massive cavern appeared before Shi Xuan, filled with bone demons that were mostly slumbering, though a few sentries patrolled the area.
The moment the woman stopped, a sharp metallic ring echoed in her ears. A surge of agonizing pain erupted from her back. Looking down, she realized her torso had been run through by a precious sword.
The woman turned her head toward Shi Xuan in shock and instinctively asked, "When did you find out?" Shi Xuan replied coolly, "The moment you dodged my earlier strike."
"Hahaha..." The white-robed woman broke into a chilling, high-pitched laugh. "Little fellow, you actually have some skill. I am starting to like you more and more, but do you think you have truly caught me?"
As the words left her mouth, the woman’s body dissolved into ash. Simultaneously, countless green ghost fires ignited throughout the cavern. In an instant, the entire space was bathed in an eerie light.
The sleeping bone demons snapped their eyes open one by one, glaring at Shi Xuan with monstrous expressions. "Quite interesting," Shi Xuan remarked with genuine intrigue as he watched the scene unfold.
The voice of the white-robed woman echoed through the cavern once more. "Little fellow, death is at your doorstep, yet you are still being stubborn."
Shi Xuan turned toward the sound. He watched as a beautiful woman in white drifted out from the cave's depths, hovering in the air while looking down at him with pure disdain.
He spoke without haste, "Is that so? Then today I shall see exactly how much ability you, this demonic creature, possess to have the confidence to suppress me."
The beautiful woman replied, "Brat, do you know why I have been able to live in this White Bone Valley for tens of thousands of years without being suppressed?"
"Because you are weak, and others do not deign to deal with you," Shi Xuan replied with a straight face.
"Hmph." The woman snorted with cold fury. "That is because my cave dwelling contains an array known as the Ten-Thousand Bone Spirit-Severing Array."
"Even a cultivator of the God-Nurturing Realm would struggle to escape this array unharmed. Within these walls, I am invincible among those of the same realm."
"Is that so? I do not believe it," Shi Xuan said, a playful glint in his eyes. "Unless you let me see it for myself."
