Emboldened, Gui Ya taunted Ye Feng and the others, claiming the Huang family's dominance in Coastal City and provincial ties made them untouchable, even for murder. Zhuang Xiaoqiao probed the limits of their influence while secretly recording everything, and after sending the evidence to her grandfather, Gui Ya's phone rang with Huang Fahong's furious demands about the provoked foe.

“What’s wrong?! That’s my question for you!” Huang Fahong’s furious shout echoed through the phone, audible to all who were listening.

He glanced over at Ye Feng and Zhuang Xiaoqiao. “These two just placed a call outward. Boss Huang, your brother-in-law and his crew must’ve stirred up some unrelated mess, right?”

“Nonsense!” Huang Fahong cut off Gui Ya mid-sentence with a sharp rebuke!

“My brother-in-law went out of his way to relay a message through someone, insisting he’s certain nothing shady happened on his watch lately!”

“Moreover, this probe hit hard and swift, skipping all standard protocols. It has to be a backlash from crossing somebody they never should’ve tangled with!”

“In the Huang family circle, you’re the sole one stirring up chaos outside moments ago! Spill every detail to me about your actions and who you crossed! Omit even a syllable, and I’ll flay you myself!”

A chill ran through Gui Ya as he recounted the entire sequence of events to Huang Fahong.

Once Huang Fahong absorbed the story, a hint of doubt crept into his voice.

“Two out-of-town upstarts?”

“They couldn’t possibly wield that kind of influence, could they?”

“Exactly…” Gui Ya refused to accept that Zhuang Xiaoqiao’s call held such sway. He appeared deeply wronged. “Probably your brother-in-law crossed paths with the wrong person by sheer bad luck.”

Gui Ya exhaled in relief.

“Certain folks are wired that way. They cling to their preferred illusions. The glaring facts, even staring them down, get ignored in favor of denial!” Ye Feng remarked with a faint smile.

“What are you implying?” Gui Ya struggled to accept it. “Are you saying the scrutiny on Coastal City’s department truly stemmed from that single call?”

“Impossible!” The bald guy, still reeling from Ye Feng’s earlier slap, jumped in right away. “To mobilize the province so rapidly and lock down key figures in the city’s department—that’s beyond even the reach of Boss Huang’s backer! A pair of visiting nouveau riche… no way they possess that clout!”

“They’re obviously bluffing to scare us off!”
