"We can't delay any longer—time to rush to their aid. Old City Lord, if you would guide us."

Leo Ray rose from his chair promptly, showing no delay.

Leo Ray knew full well that even though the system prompt hadn't detailed the punishment for losing the city, with an isolated outpost crying out for help, the consequences were painfully clear.

Should 'Corrosion' overrun that city, defeat and ruin would surely await our forces.

"My gratitude, Your Excellency. The portal to the fortress lies right beyond the Great Temple!"

Old Book gave a nod to Leo Ray before stepping forward to usher the group rapidly from the temple.

Moments later, the team, dashing with incredible haste, reached a grand teleportation array inside the city. A queue stretched out there, packed with armored elite troops stepping into the portal one after another, filling the atmosphere with urgency and gravity.

"City Lord, with one Divine Stone General remaining to protect the city, the remaining pair has already arrived at the fortress!"

The veteran General Curry drew near and updated Old Book.

"Excellent, hold position here while I escort these valiant heroes to join the fight!"

Curry placed his fist to his heart in salute, then ordered the troops at the array to clear a path.

Yet Leo Ray sharply observed that those looks held more than just admiration and thrill—traces of despair and powerlessness lingered too.

Putting it aside, Leo Ray directed his companions into the teleportation array as Old Book directed.

A brief wave of weightlessness passed, and when Leo Ray's sight sharpened, he stood amid a lively training field.

Reinforcing human troops, fresh from arrival, assembled in formation and marched to the massive fortress ramparts. Alongside them, Leo Ray spotted Dwarf Elf warriors and Alchemy Puppets as well.

Even though these fighters ranked above Tier 4 and appeared highly disciplined, a palpable wave of worry soon spread through the ranks.

"Lord Brave, come this way alongside this old one!"

Book gripped his Divine Stone Staff firmly, taking point once more.

Following a hurried trek, Leo Ray joined over a hundred others in climbing to the fortress battlements.

As Leo Ray and his group at last glimpsed the adversaries beyond the walls, their eyes widened in shock.

Up close in the heavens, endless 'Corrosion' of diverse hues floated menacingly, their thin tentacles lashing out wildly at the fortress's Absolute Defense Barrier.

Every strike from those fine tentacles produced a profound, booming tone from the shield, akin to a funeral bell tolling nearby, shaking deep within all who heard.

Besides that, the dread induced by 'Corrosion' hung constant, sending an instant shiver through the crowd.

In that instant, the myriad 'Corrosion' tentacles thrashed chaotically across the sky, visible to the horizon. Silent without war shouts, the view remained utterly terrifying.

Luckily, Leo Ray had assembled mainly Tier 6 powerhouses. Lower tiers such as Kara, Calvin, and Old Nick stayed back at the temple, allowing the group to channel their inner power against the fear's grip.

Furthermore, the shining gold light on the Absolute Defense Barrier of the fortress visibly faded, while subtle fissures started to form.

"Lord Brave, this marks the primary enemy thrust; different flanks are handled by fellow Divine Stone Generals—entrust this side to our care!"

Old Book charged forward, swinging his staff to call down a colossal golden ray from above, smashing into the closest 'Corrosion'.

Any 'Corrosion' caught in the golden ray's reach appeared brutally struck, plummeting in masses, the dozen or so at its core dissolving right away into mere slime pools that swiftly vanished.

At the same time, golden auras shimmered on the troops near Old Book, who unleashed volleys of arrows to fell a few 'Corrosion'. Typically, multiple shots were needed to destroy one, clearly drawing from Old Book's Power of the Stars.

Still, against hordes numbering in the tens of thousands of 'Corrosion', these efforts proved minor, only briefly slowing the assault without turning the tide.

"Now it's time for me to join the fray."

Leo Ray flicked his wrist to call forth Little Jie, Xiao Jing, and Sheila, with the Power of Divine Grace trailing closely, instantly igniting the Power of the Stars within the trio of Stone Spirits.
