Spotting Leo Ray and the group approaching, one of the swamp fishmen elders hurried over to Sina and explained: “My deepest regrets, Lord Leader, it was due to my inadequate leadership that two of our kin triggered the foe’s magical snares!”
“This isn’t on you, have everyone hold position, it looks like this area is packed with fatal hazards!”
Sina dismissed it with a gesture, her brow creasing as she cautioned the team.
At the same time, Leo Ray pulled out a bundle of Tier 6 detection scrolls, directing the nearby powerhouses to trigger them and scan the surroundings.
As expected, with the energy pulses spreading outward, the shapes of countless magical snares appeared, clustered thickly all around their current spot.

“Human Majesty, this spot is riddled with snares, we need to head back topside right away!”
Sina’s grave tone rang out, and Loris added his support: “Exactly, once we build a magical staircase, getting back to the surface won’t pose much trouble!”
“You make a good point, let’s get moving on it now.”
Leo Ray signaled with his hand, and guided by Crisis and Fanny, the earth-element powerhouses started their incantations, forming a wide and sturdy magical staircase that swiftly stretched upward toward the surface.
Yet, right when the magical staircase hit the midpoint, it halted sharply, leaving Crisis and the casters staring in confusion at each other.
“Your Majesty, some unseen barrier is stopping the spell from progressing, we’ll investigate it directly.”
Crisis gave Leo Ray a formal salute, then she and Fanny soared off toward the point where the staircase had stopped.
However, as they got close, both Crisis and Fanny’s pale features twisted in discomfort, their wing beats growing sluggish, and it was only after descending to a safer height away from that spot that they recovered.
“Your Majesty, the gravity imprisonment array is still active, hovering in the air and blocking our path forward.”
Fanny touched down once more in front of Leo Ray, her expression furrowed as she reported: “Yes, it’s precisely this gravity imprisonment array that stopped the staircase from completing!”
“So that unseen wall turned out to be the abrupt gravity field, the enemy’s plan is pretty sharp, I’ll give them that.”
Loris let out a cold huff, adding: “Looks like if we’re aiming to escape back to the surface, we’ll need to crack that gravity array first.”
“But this gravity array packs such a punch, and it spans so vast an area, its core source can’t be nearby—the foes must have schemed this out over a long haul.”
Sina lightly rubbed her pale chin, musing: “Under these conditions, pinpointing and shattering the array’s core will prove incredibly tough.”
While the group pondered their options, a storm of endless bone spears and arrows rained down from above, engulfing their location.
In particular, as they crossed through the gravity array, those bone spears and arrows picked up even more speed, arriving almost instantly right at them!
The powerhouses reacted on reflex to strike back, but just like with the magical staircase earlier, their efforts got shut down by the gravity wall, failing to touch the attackers in the least.

Leo Ray eyed the faint glow of the unbreakable shield barrier above, then glanced into the shadowy abyss of the underground city, declaring: “Looks like our sole path forward is to push deeper into the uncharted territory.”
Hearing Leo Ray’s decision, Sina and Loris both gave affirming nods.
Be it the gravity array or the clustering witch demons and undead up top, the enemy’s scheme was crystal clear by now.
They aimed to herd them into the heart of the underground city, where a deadly trap net was probably already in place.
But in this do-or-die moment, halting their advance meant that once the unbreakable shield barrier gave way, total wipeout awaited them.

With no alternatives at hand, they’d have to carve out a fresh path themselves.
It wasn’t long before, through the united push of their powerhouses and the support of advanced detection scrolls, the magical snares in front were rapidly dismantled, pulling them beyond the enemy’s striking distance.
As they pulled away, the witch demons and undead overhead showed no pursuit, merely observing with icy detachment, which confirmed the foes had another scheme ready.
After fully stepping into the alien underground city, Leo Ray realized.
The area was remarkably vast, with every corridor so expansive that their force of ten thousand felt spacious rather than squeezed; without the standard-sized wall etchings, Leo Ray could’ve mistaken it for Titan Clan handiwork.
Though this site was incredibly old, marked by countless fissures in the stone walls and floors, and rough construction quality, its sheer magnitude rivaled relics from the Era of Blankness.
“Human Majesty, unless I’m wrong, this capital zone was the final stronghold the witch demon seized long ago, and after claiming it, the witch demon razed the surface city entirely— who’d have thought such an enormous setup lay buried below.”
Sina’s lovely eyes sparkled with astonishment, as she wondered aloud: “In those times, this alliance held dominion over every third-class power, and if it had endured, it might’ve evolved into a gigantic force.”
“Pity they drew the witch demon’s ire for reasons unknown.”
Loris gave a shrug and remarked: “Ancient texts even note that their thirst for power roused the dormant witch demon, sealing their fate, since prior to that, throughout the millennium leading to the Era of Blankness, the witch demon scarcely surfaced.”
“It looks like there’s a hidden tale buried here.”
